Roast Jasper Pittard

Pittard made half as many offensive errors than Ebert today. but because he's a player with under 20 games and not our vice captain he gets it heaped on(sounds right?). yes he slaughtered the ball on 2 occasions. all players today couldn't cope with the pressure, boak, ebert, broadbent even wingard all handing the ball to hawthorn on a platter multiple times.

and out of curiosity how many goals did Pittard's direct opponent score today? i have it as 1 between the 3 he/jonas/logan rotated on (Bruest,Puopolo,Rioli) but am not sure the time he spent on them or who else he stood.

he like others, were terrible today, bit for me he stood out most, not just because of running himself into pressure, but his seemingly lack of wanting to contest one on one when having to down back, also he jumps to be the 3rd in spoiler often leaving his SMALL FORWARD OPPONENT just waiting on the ground for spoils.

I think we are building for a premiership which means we will need to develop our youth.

Pittard is a year or two behind guys like OShea. How we forget how long it took lobbe, redden and broadbent.

Not everyone is a wines!

I watched him closely all game, he just sagged off his opponent almost oblivious to the fact they were running to open space, as well as always jumping 3rd up rather then staying down and his opponent would play the small forward role there supposed to and take the ball.

Harder to rip him for someof the times he ran into trouble because if you watched closely some of the senior players i.e Action Jackson were yelling at them to run into the dangerous space, then he just froze when no help defense stopped 3 guys coming at him

He has a lot to learn

Probably shouldn't be best 22. Certainly not giving up on him in the long run, but at the moment is being comprehensively beaten in marking contests and is not providing his run and carry off half back. A stint in the SANFL is needed as I think it's an issue of form and fitness - make him work for a spot in the side, he will be all the better for it when he comes through it.

Heath's early games were fantastic in the way he really set us up from the back line with smart kicking and a really solid defensive game. His skills and possession count went down the drain there for a bit later in the season, but the courage and commitment is there in every game he plays. We need to bring him in.

Give me a break. I suppose all you Pittard knockers were also calling for O'shea's head every week not so long ago. The guy shows immense promise & talent IMO, but has never been able to string enough games together to build confidence.

Some supporters are so fickle.

Nope. Haven never written any other player off at this age, do a search. I have serious doubt about Pittard, certainly as a defender. Poor positioning, too easily defeated one on one and poor decision making / execution. He won't be dropped as long as he s fit so we will find out one way or the other by end of season. Personally, unless he is reinvented further up the ground, i don't think he is anything more than depth over coming years. Would certainly consider trading.

I was more saying being dropped and spending more time on training would increase his speed rather than coming out and giving half efforts every week.

He looks like a stick figure compared to some other blokes.

Arms and shoulders and everything about him is too lean and easy to push over for a defender.
Get a photo from this year.

Pittard is a wingman, more than a defender. Play him in position and he will flourish. He has had his body destroyed by injury. And is tryin to learn to cope with a new figure.

He will be good. I reckon he is a winger more than a half back. Has all the ability and technique but is panicking a bit due to inexperience. in 20 games he will be as good as ben hart.

Ben Hart was a dual All-Australian in his first two seasons/just after he turned 19.

I'd be pleasantly surprised if in 20 games he was as good as Jared Poulton.

Yeah i am done with pittard for now.....but would be silly to write his carreer off with only 20 games under his belt...he is unique in his skill set and body shape .....i would never write any kid off who has played lessbthen 75 games...

But for now shelf him give him another pre season

With forensic advances contributing to the hyper-importance of the draft, today's first-round pick probably has 4 years/60 games at the upper end to truly start proving his worth.

Pittard was drafted way back in 2009 and has been cruelled by injury on his way to 22 patchy games in what is his fourth season, playing a relatively peripheral and eminently replaceable role as a small/medium rebounding defender.

I'd personally like to see him spend the rest of the year at Sturt where he can hopefully dominate in the Colquhoun-mould to boost his confidence and recalibrate his laser, but gee-whiz he needs a big preseason given he'll be 23 next April.

you learnt to man your opponent in under 10's and its not like he was rotating onto others, he had one man, and that man ran free a lot of the time

there are always slow learners

4 years in the system but only half a year under a decent coaching system

All the draft-buzz about Pittard was he gave the most impressive interviews to prospective buyers in years.

Huge football IQ to the point where Williams quipped he could give him a role in the coaches box already.

i definately can understand your opinion of him...i just have a personal rule of not judging until 50 -75 games more so then age

Not everyone is a wines!

And not everyone youth player will make it. At some point you need to cut your losses

So if Jasper 2013 = O'Shea 2012, he's two years in development behind O'Sheezy?

just play him and moore and butcher every game to the end of the year they need game time. They are behind where they should be due to injuries. Pittard knows he needs to improve and i reckon he is the kind of guy that will go and work on it until he gets it right. I can see him having a big year next year and making the knockers eat there words.

No where near ready to give up on Pittard. He had a shocker and needs to go back to the SANFL and get some form, probably for the rest of the year unless he has a miraculous turn around. I'm pretty confident another preseason/year under the new team (Hinkley/Burgess/Richardson) and he'll repay the faith.

His "smart footballer" status is overrated. Though I don't know if that is due to inexperience or not.
I think, he Thinks he Is smart, and his brain > his skill.

Poor man's Robbie gray?

Very, poor man's.

Sturt, dominate, come back in 2014. Watch 10 games in 14, then move on if doesn't turn into what a first round pick should deliver.
