UN leftists at it again, both being useless and an overarching fictional monster.

.....said the UN had become "powerless" in its key role to help prevent conflicts, Milei attacked the body's future pact adopted on Sunday calling it "socialist"....

"It has become a multi-tentacled Leviathan that seeks to decide what each nation state should do and how the citizens of the world should live,"

"The same always happens with the ideas of the left.

This is the UN formed by capitalist powers of the US/UK during WW2(you had to declare war on the axis to join). Took them 30 years to recognise China and the Soviet Union spent half the time boycotting the whole show. Classic leftists

Yes how horrible it is that a group of countries tried to get together to non violently pressure other countries to adopt human rights and make peoples welfare the goal of government rather than the enrichment of the leaders.

Getting positive feedback from the World Bank.

That's not a positive. Those bloodsuckers have repeatedly exacerbated the issues of poverty in the countries they provide loans to, by demanding austerity and government asset sales as a condition of the loan. Of course they love it, it's right up their street, but they only care about getting repaid, not about whether children starve to death or not.

100%
"Confessions of an economic hitman" lays it all out in great detail.

The World Bank telling a Latin American population that their starvation is almost over is like the Board announcing its faith in the coach. Sh!t is going to get worse before it gets better. Poverty is at over 60%.

I like that the people who quote the "failure" of the past 20 years in Argentina don't mention what happened for the 50 years before that which got them into the place where only the rich were able to survive and poor had to be supported by the Government.

Now Milei is doing it all over again and people from overseas are cheering along mass poverty, death and desolation. Does nobody read history books any more?

Also, the economy is still shrinking by 0.3%, even though economists predicted 0.9% growth.

What if those people do read history books, and know what things were like back then, but actually want that to return? As I'm sure you've observed, there are people, most obviously in the US, who really do want the return of feudalism because they worship the rich and think poverty is a moral failing. Perhaps the death and desolation among the impoverished feels like justice to them.

The explanation I've usually heard as to why those people hold the neo-feudalist attitude is because they think they too will be rich one day, "temporarily embarrassed millionaires". But recently I've started wondering, what if that's not true? What if they just want to be a serf, ruled by a rich lord of the manor, so long as they're still above someone else on the societal ladder?

That structure provides them with a level of mental security through understanding their place in the world, and the dignity of feeling they're still superior to "those people". You know, the lazy, undeserving, morally inferior ones. And that attitude allows them to cheer on the lord as they cause suffering, so long as the suffering is being felt by "those people", not "people like us". It's even easier if "those people" are in some other country where they look different and speak a different language.

If that's an accurate analysis of this type of person, it reminds me a little bit of Bob Ewell from To Kill a Mockingbird. He realises he may be poor white trash that more educated people sneer at, but at least he's not black, and he'll proudly cling to whatever superiority he is allowed to have in society.

Also, the economy is still shrinking by 0.3%, even though economists predicted 0.9% growth.
Wait, you mean austerity shrinks the economy? Who could have seen that coming? It's not like government spending is a component of GDP and supports lots of jobs or anything.

Good, who cares? He's doing a great job for Argentina and telling those clowns at the UN exactly what they are. At least he's not saying he was at Tiananmen Square!
Explain to me what he has done, or is doing well?

Construction and manufacturing are down 20%, the economy has shrunk 5% in a firm, steady recession, the majority of the population are now living in poverty. Inflation is still about 50% higher than it was when he was elected. Unemployment is higher.

The Government is balancing the budget at the expense of all of the people and the economy.

Where's the success story here? Please, I'm dying to hear what's going well.

1. Inflation was 211% when he was inaugurated. It's now steadily declined to 165% since he stopped the debasement of the Peso. You realize when the federal reserve prints money, it takes time for the created money to spent into circulation right (trickle-down inflation)?. Did you expect inflation to reduce over night on the day of his inauguration?

2. Argentina was well on its way to hyperinflation. Milei stopping it in its tracks is a massive win.

3. The disease that is deficit spending has been one of the most destructive transfers of wealth in modern history. Going into debt to provide for the current generation means future generation tax payers will have to pay back that same debt with interest on top. Imagine being selfish enough to rob the prosperity of your kids and grandkids so that one can benefit immediately. No country unless threatened by a genuine existential threat should ever go into deficit spending.

Milei has planted the seeds for genuine sustained growth (cutting back the size of the government, role of the central bank and the debasement of the peso) and only a fool would measure its success within a year of taking the reigns.

I would be willing to bet a significant amount of money Argentina will be in a better place economically in 4 years.

Not a comfort for people who suffer irreversible physical damage from malnourishment, to find that there is no health service to rely on for their care.

Bonza work, mate!

Caused a recession and managed to reduce inflation by a fraction. Recessions halt inflation all by themselves, they don't need a balanced budget. He could probably get inflation down by another 20% if he shrinks the economy another 5%.

It also spiked up to 200, from 100 when he was first elected in Oct 2023. So it's still higher than when he was elected and inflation spiked in anticipation of the austerity measures.

You could absolutely do that bet, you could buy 5y Argentinian Bonds, or invest in Argentinian stock market indices.
