Or we take him at 6 in the draft. Game glitch. lulz
It would be interesting if Geelong got to pick 6 and there is a draftee they wanted but didn't think they could get, would they really want to use that pick on Cameron

I don't have any issue with the Giants choosing to match - it's their right - but it does highlight one flaw with the matching system - that the club doesn't have to be prepared to actually pay the matched salary.

In this case, because Cameron isn't going to accept, as far as we're aware they are matching an offer that is well above their final offer to him a couple of weeks back. We know that GWS are in a tight salary cap situation - hence shipping out Scully for stuff-all - and it's a little silly that GWS will claim that they can match Geelong's offer, *IF* it is in excess of their final offer.

Um not sure if you've noticed but six players are heading out of the Giants. 4 of them were somewhat surprising and were expected to stay.

GWS now has cap space it didn't three weeks ago. So it should be allowed to use it as they see fit.

Thats if you still have those same picks come draft night though.
If we don't have all of those picks, then it means we got Dunkley. It also means we'll have one or two of those picks that we need to use on a KPF. What better way to spend it than on a Coleman medalist? Point is, if Cameron really wants to go to Geelong, then ND is not going to be the way. If it isn't any of the bottom 5, then Essendon will pick him up. GWS also have a pick before Geelong as well.

You can completely forget the PSD because North and Essendon have more cap space to accommodate Cameron's huge contract than Geelong.

Dangerfield deserves a flag - so the giants should help the cats

Won't worry the giants had very late runs in the finals the last few years (bar the most recent)
kidding right? plenty of players deserve a flag and dont get it! one of your best ever for example! stick to your guns GWS, 2 top 10 pics and a decent player!! or 3!!!! hahahahaha

I’m sure this scenario was already discussed between Geelong and Cameron and his management, there is no way Geelong walk away from him now. Cameron would not have committed to Geelong if they were to turn around and say “but only if we can get you for nothing”. This would have been discussed and Geelong would have committed to him either way. Unfortunately for Geelong GWS have matched meaning they now have to pay the market price for a million dollar player, similar to what they did to the Eagles last year. No chance he goes to the draft.

That’s the GWS opening gambit, right? Not their final word.

They said two 1st rounders and a player. If those two 1sts were top 10 picks sure they negotiate the player out of the deal. But if those 1sts slide close to pick 20 then the player needs adding into the deal.

What those two 1st rounders are will define what else is or isn't needed.

Rata doesnt want to go though and i doubt they can convince him.
If no player is included, GWS is going to come after all 3 of your picks.

As it stands, given Williams, Crouch, Daniher, Ugle-Hagan (1-5), Campbell (5-10), Jones (10-15), McInnes (15-20), it’s looking quite likely that your first 3 picks are:

16, 19, 25

All 3 picks combined aren’t even worth that much, maybe a pick in the 5-10 range.

So even if they get all 3 of your firsts, given how compromised and diluted this draft is, thats BARELY an upgrade on the pick 10 they would’ve received via the compo.

why should they go for any less? Hard to see them not at least trying for 3x firsts

Cats now feeling the wrath of Gil. We saw what happened when he stepped in with Cogs. You can't win.
True the poor Vic clubs are really hard done by when it comes to ripping the cream out of the smaller interstate clubs

The pressure is not on Geelong, it's on Jeremy Cameron? He must've known what Geelong will do before he announced his intentions. The compo pick 12 is more than adequate, if that isn't enough and GWS wish to be lunatics about it all, Geelong should just walk away...

Cats supporters crying over sending 2 x firsts to gws, but was all well and good to demand 2 for Kelly. They forget easily
Four major variables, though.

Kelly was much younger, and was coming off a vastly better year than Cameron. He had also shown strong year-on-year improvement.

Cameron is a key position forward, i.e. he's a rarer player type.

If the cats don't get Cameron. How long does the flag window stay open?

Pressure isn’t on Geelong? Lol you are kidding right?

Every man and his dog thought they would match originally, it would of been discussed.

In no way Cameron would of agreed to the deal if it all depended on a Cats freebie.

If it's barely an upgrade on the comp then why would they bother to match.

It's always been the square peg in the round hole. Throwing away a draft selection that's higher than the value of any pick Geelong has.

Best case scenario for both would be to work on deals outside of matching to get GWS extra value.
