Traded Pick swap: Brisbane trade #20 to Richmond for #32, #42, #43 & #45

Wonder if we keep this pick.
Could be for a tall forward- Faull or Whitlock perhaps. Do we try to grab the best ruckman in the draft here?
Will there be a slider that we had our eyes on with an earlier pick make it here?

Or do we use it with another pick to trade up?

Hoping we keep it and call out five players on the first night. The first pick

At what point in the draft order is a bid expected to come through for Sam Marshall? We know Ashcroft will be bid on with pick 1 or 2 so let's say it's 2517 points for a pick 2 bid with so that's 2014 points with the 20% F/S discount. From what I've seen, a bid for Marshall is expected around pick 20, which is 912 points, and that becomes 730 points with the 20% academy discount.

So Brisbane likely need around 2750 points to match the two bids. They currently have pick 32 (584 pts), 34, (542 pts), 42 (395 pts), 43 (378 pts), 45 (347 pts), 60 (146 pts) & 66 (80 pts). That's 2472 points, which means they are around 300 points short and that's assuming a bid comes through for Ashcroft at pick 2, not pick 1.

Looks like Brisbane still has to complete some more deals next week.

We also didn’t have a bidding partner…. Who else could put bid us?

We didn't need to get all our points in the one trade though, you can make smaller trades with multiple clubs who want to move up and still end up with a bevy of picks.

Couple of years ago when we had pick 15 to sell (Ashcroft draft), the first trade we did was pick 21 and FR2, and then traded each of those to different clubs, which gave us more picks, some of which we trade down etc.

It wasn't really Richmond or nothing for Brisbane, which is probably why Richmond were also keen to lock it down early. In the end, Brisbane were the ones with the more valuable asset to most teams, whereas Richmond's assets while still valuable, were more valuable to teams that needed points than other teams.

If I were Richmond, I'd be offering it to North along with pick 6 for their pick 2. Guarantees both Finn and Lalor.

That’s a definite possibility.
North could get a Tauru and Whitlock/Faull combo to round out their drafting of mids in recent years.

Depends if they valued those two over the one option they have at 2 whose probably the pick of the mids.

You'd think they have enough mids now, but this is North after all, who knows what they'll do. I'd be pursuing KPPs if I were them though. There will always be good mids available in future years.

Sounds pretty spot on to me. They'll grab those points in the Harry Sharp trade. And maybe a few more if Dev Robertson goes too..

I reckon you are tempting fate and the young guy from your VFL team gets taken at pick 40 in the draft and turns into an absolute gun

We should end up with 7+ top 30 picks. We won't us ea pick 40 this year. Next year it sounds like 3rd rounders are worth no points. So the picks are actually worthless to us, if we have to use them..

It was an overpay. Maybe a bit o scratch your back today, and you'll scratch ours in the future.

Are Brisbane required to draft three players in the ND or can they get away with two? Ashcroft, Marshall and a late pick is probably what ends up happening. Pretty good off season for the reigning premiers.

Every club has to use 3 picks at the draft to place players on their primary list. However, clubs can use a pick or picks to upgrade a rookie listed player onto the primary list. Brisbane did this in 2022 - drafted Ashcroft and Fletcher and then upgraded James Madden from the rookie list.

Danny Daly said they think bid for Marshall between 15-25. Could come earlier of course, see Jaspa Fletcher at pick 12.

Not me, knew these picks were junk. However, did we have to give them all the ones with some value? Surely we could have saved one to try and bundle up with something else.

We all know what richmond is doing. Picks 32, 42, 43 and 45 wont be much use for richmond.

The Tigers want as much picks in the top 25 as Possible.

That was a silly suggestion , Pick swaps always get atleast a 50% points jump

As a Richmond fan, do you like this trade?

Pick 20 is essentially a late 1st rounder or an early 2nd. Pick 32, 42, 43 and 45 isnt bad. Bring 4 kids in the draft or use them as As points.

Again.... Lets Use North Melbourne as an example. This would be a type of trade North Melbourne should use in a rebuild. A lot of big footy posters sank the boots on North Melbounre for asking and getting a priority pick.

Say if North Melbourne did this type of trade. Say North Melbourne traded out pick 20 and they get picks 32, 42, 43 and 45 in return.

North Melbourne could get creative. Use Pick 32 and 42 to get a couple of picks in the draft. Then use pick 43 to trade in a fringe or rotation player from another club thats aged 22 to 25. And trade pick 45 for a 30 or 31 year old on a 2 year deal.

North did trade a pick in the 60s for jack Darling.

Depending on what other picks the team holds

Of we get the expected picks for the players leaving in Bolton Baker and Rioli and we hold picks
1 , 6 , 10 , 11 , 14 , 20 , 23 , 24 thats 8 selections so yes it makes sense as we will most likely only use 6 picks

There would be no way we could use 32, 42, 43 and 45 as well

The only complaint i had was using 1 of the picks #42 pr #43 instead of #51 as i think we over paid at the time
but with hindsight it becomes apparent we were up against melbourne that would have been planning to take that pick before the Essendon option became available.

If we do still hold 1 , 6 , 10 , 11 , 14 , 20 , 23 , 24 i can see us using the first 6 picks and trading out 23 & 24
for future F1 picks as they would be the first 2 picks on day 2 after teams asses which of their rated players are still available.

Good points....

Tigers having 5 picks in the 1st round is good for the tigers, If you nail them wisely Richmond can become decent again with in 4 seasons.

Again.... I am still shocked Tigers are willing to give Shai Bolton away. Yeah they will get pick 10 and either pick 11 or 18 back. If Dockers stump up picks 10 and 11, they might ask for either 20 or 23 or 24 in return.

Even if Tigers have pick 1, 6, 10, 11 and 14 as their 1st 5 picks. I just cant see them use all of them. I wont be suprised if on the Final day, one of the top 6 sides like the swans or Geelong or GWS trades a future 1st for pick 14.

Just looking at The teams outside the finals spots. I dont know if Freo or Magpies or Essendon gives up a 2025 1st and 2025 2nd for a pick 10 or 11
