Rumour Jeremy Finlayson under investigation - 3 game suspension

It's not coming out, it's even just taking your boyfriend as your date to a B&F night or a red carpet. Which nobody has done thus far.

Just because the propaganda is being shoved down people's throats in an unpleasant and distasteful manner doesn't mean they actually exist to the number the narrative benders believe it does. Sure there will be some out there but maybe they want to keep it private like some players want to keep their wives and family private.

The world has gone absolutely mad if this is a three week ban. If the word ****wit was the word; since when is that homophobic.

Furthermore if someone calls you the real word for campaigner, d-head, the word for cat, so what? Are players and people that sensitive now.

On top of that; if someone is also gay in this day and age. Again so what? People don’t care; it’s acceptable. So why the need to “come out”? The sports people that do I think only do so for commercial reasons. Again who cares what you do in your bedroom. Does someone need to come out if they cross dress, are into cougars or whatever else? No they don’t because no gives an iota.

What’s next, red headed people being called ranga, cheese or whatever else is frowned upon. And to the snowflakes that say that there is no place for swear words or banter, give me a break.

The precious souls of the world really need to get over themselves and piss off with the faux outrage when I bet you if someone cuts them off in traffic they’re letting loose with a tirade or expletives that would highlight what hypocrites they all are.

The last of the dinosaurs. Thank god there are not many of you left.

Quick, delete the word bender!

The irony is this demonising, public pile on of Finlayson is doing far more real damage to his mental health than any hot-blooded swear word out on an oval during battle ever could to anyone.

Virtue signaling at it's worst. That's the AFL! :tearsofjoy:
Boo ****ing hoo.

Why do we care about that bigot's feelings?

Embarrassing the s**t players are getting suspended for these days. Not sure who's worse, the afl who pander to this crap or the virtue signallers that back it.
Capitalism is a bitch. The pink dollar is highly prized.

Severity yes. Its the literal meaning. The AFL handing out 3 weeks for bumps which concuss and for slurs is them saying they are of equal severity.

Apart from having to pay to attend some sort of ridiculous "be a better person" seminar.

Type is obviously different.

I wonder what the AFL said to Port to convince them not to appeal.

In the NFL in the US its a 15 yard penalty. Thats it. Does the AFL need to be so heavy handed?
Will people suddenly stop being bigots because of this?

If only he had called him a coke addict or gambling addict.

The severity argument is valid; however, it's dismissive of several factors that should be considered within the context of this particular case.
  1. Rough conduct offences are common in the AFL; a couple of players are generally suspended on a weekly basis. They know the rules and will be punished if they break them (even though the process can be ambiguous).
  2. Homophobic slurs are possibly common but rarely recorded. As such, there are very limited opportunities for the AFL to make examples of conduct that shouldn’t be a part of the game.

It should also be acknowledged that homophobia is an enormous problem from the AFL down to grassroots footy. There is a reason there's never been an openly gay player in the AFL. Possibly, coming out has been avoided by a player due to the media pressure they’d face. However, it is more likely that gay players quit the game at a school age after years of teammates and opposition constantly calling each other p’s and f’s.

The AFL has acknowledged that if they want this to be a game for everyone then this type conduct must be stamped out, hence the severity of the suspension.

You’re wrong. Most people aren’t sensitive and could care less being called that word or any other. The ones that do aren’t that offended but will use the incident to get a payout and carry on with faux outrage and worse yet are the people that get outraged on behalf of others and social media is absolutely full of it and the cancel culture warriors.

Here we go; as if anyone is buying that you’ve never been critical of anyone or anything and used a bad word. No ones buying this schtick.
Well I know i haven't, but if I had and there were consequences for my words people shouldn't be thinking about how it affects my mental health.

No you are wrong. Most people are better than that now. They have moved on from an archaic world of homophobic slurs and racial taunts. Actually many who show outrage know what it like to be on the end of that abuse. Comments like this are a world gone by. Move with it.

I'd argue that like the n word and white people, f***** is not really a word for breeders to use.

This. All anyone here needs to read

What in God's name are you on about?

The AFL pick and choose when they care about the impact to the community. And their care level comes down to how much money it will cost them. That is all they care about.

They dont give a shit about the hundreds of thousands of lives ruined by gambling and drug addiction. They will take the money and cover up anything they can. But there is no downside for them over this sort of issue so they go hard on it.

Is it time for the AFL to think about the introduction of a new league?- AFLR🌈

Current administration is a farce - anyone that has played local footy thinks this is a farce.

Being combative, aggressive and relentless in local football is acceptable as are all in brawls. You don't want bruises and getting hit you don't play as that's the game.

AFL is doing a good job in most aspects of the sport but when they bring politics especially ultra-woke rubbish that goes against the ideals of country football then they are walking on thin ice.

One of the key ideals of country football is being pro bigotry?

What are the ideals of country footy exactly?
