then you don noe them to well sherlock missed fair ffew games in the two years threw inhury n notman didnt get many games as a bottom ager till late in the year
sherlock may have missed a few games here n there but pratically played majority of both years but notman played half a season in his 1st year n a full year in his second. So i cant really see how Notman was a late developer or how sherlock has missed alot of games from injury. Wat about blokes like josh attard who didnt get 1 game in his first year and then suffered a back injury this year and probably only played 2 or 3 games??? even blokes like jack sims who only got half a year this year and didnt even get a game in his first year... blokes like sims and attard are the sorta players who deserve a third year........ even shannon ball deserve a third year b4 sherlock n notman

surprising if they sherlock n notman get a third yr, both have had 2 years in the system and i was under the impression they pick players for a third year under certain rules.... such as late birthdays, slow developers or have had set backs from injurys and dont think any of these circumstances have effected sherlock or notman. late development of ball gives reason to his selection
Bloke you are right when you say that 3rd year players are picked under certain rules but not the ones that you suggested. It is about development and 3rd year players are picked on their potential to either being drafted and/or playing VFL the following year. Setbacks from injuries may play a part in that selection but it is not the overriding factor. It is not a case of slow developrs but a case of who would benefit the most by a 3rd year. Post as an example had an outstanding year as an over age by evidence of being invited to state screening & winning B&F. It would not surprise if we hear his name called out in November (draft) or December (rookie)

Training kick off tonight, no sign of Shannon Ball. Unsure what the story is there...
Otherwise looks like a promising list for the jets!
Shannon Ball going to play as a 19 yr old is he?

They look to have a decent squad, guys like Fitzpatrick, Tighe, Rayner, Carr, McKenzie, Halloran, Giles, Conway, Huxtable and one of my favourites Hartigan all showed they could play a little bit this year. Some a lot more advanced than others of course.

Any idea who the Jets other 19 yr olds might be?

Yeah Ball was invited to train but hasn't fronted up as yet. Other 19 y.o's are Bryce Carroll, Scott Sherlock and Matt Notman.
That is subject to change if Carroll gets drated, also a replacement for Ball will be brought in if he doesn't show.

I agree with you there, will be a good playing list next year.
One you are forgetting is Ben Casley. Played some games last year as a 16 y.o and did some very impressive jobs.

Yeah, I probably forgot a few others as well!!!

That's an impressive U19 list with Carroll, Sherlock and Notman...Carroll legitimately would deserve it if not drafted based on this year being his first in the TAC Cup. They'll strengthen the team up thats for sure.

why are you talking baout players who didn't make it obvillasly they didn't do good in the trial match's which is there fault so to bad for them if you made jets be happy thats it if you didn't try next year or tough just play at your local club!

Yeah. Ive heard that Jesse Fortune, Jack Gray & Michael Fogarty have been training the house down??

Jack Gray couldnt get a kick playing with Willy 18s last year and how he kept his place on the Jets list is a joke. His younger teamates from the 16s Conway and Mckenzie were getting games with the Jets and more than held their own by playing quite well. Its ok to be able to run and jump and have good skills but you have to have a bit of heart as well.I went to about 8 Willy games last year and in about 4 or 5 of them heard the coach pleading with Jack Gray to be more competitive and one of his top age teamates who goes to trade school with me told me Jack told his coach that he was scared of the fat lebanese guy who played in the ruck for Spotty. So from what i saw he has to harden the F--- up.You can train the house down all you like but when it comes to playing games especially at T.A.C. level it means JACK !!!!! :(

So with the drafts over, Carroll is out. Any idea who the extra 19 year old replacement could be?

The positive would be that the Jets get another year out of Rayner and also Tighe with the Saints not taking the punt on him late.

Agree when you say training the house down in pre-season isnt everything, but the Jack Gray you described isnt the one i know.
Have you ever got a kick in the TAC cup or trained with the state squad cinderella? He must be doing something right...
Jack will be a regular with the Jets next year and, luckily for him, there aren't too many lebanese running around in the TAC cup ;)

Not too sure how that will unfold.
Most of last year's boys are decided on what they're doing next year, so someone might haved to be 'coaxed' into returning.

The jets are probably only short one key forward, so might be someone along those lines.
Although i'd prefer to see an untried player (ie. Majak Daw) given a shot there.

Interestingly, Shannon Ball made his first appearance on monday, but was away again tonight.
He fits the key forward bill but has a lot of work to do if he decides to come back.

I believe quite a few are committed to Werribee VFL as well, so that would make it interesting given the new rules. They'd have to pull out of that to go to Jets and perhaps even play as the 23rd man in the Williamstown seniors.

The last thing the Jets need is someone not committed. If Ball isn't interested they'd be better off not wasting their time.

They have some good young talls anyway. And Fitzpatrick should be good for 3-4 goals a game when he's playing.

footyman, what are the new rules regarding 23d man in the VFL?
I've heard some talk of it but i'm not exactly sure of full details..
Pretty much aimed at giving TAC Cup players a chance to play senior footy, but how well it works is anyones guess. Hopefully when guys are picked in the VFL they get more than 15 minutes of game time! The info below explains it:

AFL Victoria has regulated the use of a 23rd player which must be a TAC Cup player in designated senior VFL games in the 2009 season. The actual logistics of its operation are as follows:

1. VFL Round 3 (April 25/26)

• 19 year old players only to be used

2. VFL Round 9 (June 6/7/8) to Round 12 (July 4/5)

• 19 year old players and 18 year old NON National Representatives only to be used.

3. VFL Round 13 (July 11/12) to Round 20 (August 29/30)

• 19 year old players and 18 year old players (including recent National Representatives) to be used.

Ahh ok thanks for that, sounds like a good initative... will be interesting to see how the TAC players go.
I heard a couple of weeks ago that Fitzpatrick, Hartigan, Tighe and Halloran have been short listed for this by the jets..

I thought Cinderella must have been talking about another Jack Gray? cos
the one I know, may not be overly physical.. he certainly doesnt pull out of a contest!! Jack looks to have gotten bigger too.. hopefully will have a good season with the Jets.. the other one thats bulked up is Dion Lawson, looks very fit!

Training will resume on wednesday.
Intra club matches begin in the first week of Febuary and i think the first praccy (of 3) is against Northen on the 28th of Feb.

I would say no cuts will be made until at least after that match, that's how it was last year anyway.
However staff might want to have the list finalised by then and hit the praccies at full strength.

I know some other sides had much smaller squads for the praccies last year.
But i doubt the jets will cut before at least one trial match..

Cheers mate. It's a long year it would make sense for them to give as many guys a go as they can and ease into it rather than go too hard too early. Can get some frustrating mismatches in those praccy games depending whose cut their lists and who hasn't!

Actually I just had a look on their website theyve got the praccy games listed on there. :thumbsu: Two intra club games first up.
