"Joel Corey has enjoyed another strong year and had 38 disposals against Sydney, but he did have 16 turnovers."

A good player who racks up the stats, but seems to always avoid criticism. No offence to TonyCam, but what's the go with Corey? Are we using him effectively? Any truth to the rumours that he is interested in returning to WA at some stage?

He is quite turnover prone, and this is exacerbated by playing him in the backline. Everyone knows his best position is in the guts - an absolute clearance specialist. The extra pressure on his disposal down back does not help what is already his main flaw.

Conclusion: Put him in the middle and let him kick long to one on one contests.

I believe his foot skills have been a bit off lately, BUT as a lot of his possessions are in traffic and under pressure it is understandable if he has turnovers. He is great at stoppages.

What rumours, are they the ones that you are inventing:eek:

More positives than negatives about him. Such as his intercept of the ball just outside the goal square (last week?) where he ran straight into goal. Things like that are what makes him an amazing player. + If he didn't get the ball so much he wouldn't be able to turn it over that much. So it shows that he does get it a lot to be able to have a lot of good and a lot of bad disposals in the same game.

Agreed. I would rather Jimmeh play some more time in the backline and Corey more in the midfield. Joel has butchered the ball a bit too often.

Awesome palyer :D one percenters are fantastic!

does have some clangers but who doesnt :) would rather have him play for us than someone else

Well said Turkey. It's the clangers that are committed when players are clear that you worry about and I don't think these stats are separated. You might be the best kick at the club but that doesn't guranteee you to be able to get an effective kick under pressure.

His last quarter against Sydney was fantastic I thought. Whenever we need a lift in the last quarter, he always seems to be one of the guys to lead the way (look at last quarters against hawks and sydney). He is a clearance king, he may not be the best disposal of the ball, but his positives far outweigh his negatives in my opinion. Great player.

That's spot-on. His forte is gathering in close and feeding out handballs. He is not a spot-up kicker coming out of the backline

Well Joel had a good laugh then said "never say never but not on the agenda at the moment":p:D

TC

Look out.... SEN will report that Corey is considering a move shortly!!

I'm already on record as saying I'd have Joel at Fremantle in a heart beat, unfortunately that's never going to happen. I think his last contract renewal was the prime time for any move and that now he will finish his career with Geelong. Great player, still undervalued by some.

Just in case there is still a chance though, how about a straight swap for Mundy? His disposal skills are pretty sweet if somebody else can get him the ball in space.

All the best for the game. Your win against the Doggies will be critical to my chances of staying on top of the work footy tipping comp.

I was very critical of a couple of turn overs he did in the Hawthorn game. But in the end it was his clearance work in the last quarter that won us the game imo.

Every player turns the ball over, and yes Joel may do it more than an Ablett or Bartel. But his clearance work more than makes up for it. Once he starts playing permanently in the midfield we will start flogging teams.

Maybe it's the romantic in me, but Corey is one of the few untouchables in the hoops. Turnovers in the backline? So what? The odd shank? Love 'em. He could be out there sipping on a Johnny Walker, smokin' a cigar for all I care. Why?

That smother.

Corey changed our lives forever. Untouchable.

Great post:thumbsu:

Put him in the guts where he really shines. Need an example? Look no further than the last quarter vs Hawthorn. One of the matchwinners without a shadow of a doubt.

He definitely has not been used as he should be by playing in the backline, but he does have versatility by virtue of his size and incredible tank, so I can understand why he has been put there to plug holes. But it's certainly not his forte.
