John Barker?

Very few would have any idea what he is like as a coach. He was a fav whipping boy for the Hawks on BF - pretty much the Tom Murphy equivelent but in the coaches box. He must offer something, he keeps getting a new gig.

This. How the hell would we know how good a job the assistant coaches are doing, without being part of the inner sanctum? All we've got to go by is: Forwards/Defenders/Midfielders/Ruckman - are/are not performing - blaime/praise the assistant coach in charge of them. Sometimes it's not that easy. The delivery into the forwardline by a quality midfield over the past two years has been nothing short of disgraceful. How is that Barker's fault?

Hey I'm sure Koschitski's bad form this year was due to Barker's influence two years ago, and he trained Riewoldt in the running style that ultimately caused his ligament to let go.
I'm also pretty sure he was too light on the " kick the goal from the elusive bouncing ball " training that Milne received.

I'm only going by the press releases, but if you heard differently I'm sure most of us here would like to know what it was.

Barker being sacked had been the word around the traps a week or 2 before that press release but that's not to say a fan didn't hear he left and changed it to his version. Although I do believe they came to an at least amicable agreement.

You don't think the fall off in form of the Hawthorn midfield had anything to do with Hawthorn's fortunes post 2008? From what I saw in 2010, Franklin, Roughead, Rioli etc looked just as threatening when they were getting good delivery from the midfield, but unfortunately for the Hawks this wasn't happening anywhere near as much as it was in 2008 (how much has the loss of Crawford, Croad & Dew impacted on Hawthorn's fortunes post 2008. That is significant experience lost in one hit.

And I believe he has no idea how to structure up a forward-line for retention, efficiency, conversion and - most importantly - scoreboard success.

You just confirmed you have absolutely no idea about football, along with that fact free blogger Hosk (A.K.A Hoax) I read Big footy every now again to have a laugh at what the lower end of the IQ scale is trotting out, very amusing. How about we deal in some fact:
Hawks in 2010(Champion stats)-
Ranked 3rd at scores from turnovers in their F50 (Great pressure)
Ranked 4th in F50 tackles (Awesome pressure)
Ranked 1st at score launches from F50 (speaks for its self)
Ranked 1st at scores from F50 Stoppages (good structure and direction?)
Buddy - more goals per game than any other player in AFL
Buddy ranked 4th in F50 Tackles in AFL (Never been in top 40)Maybe he's been coached to lift his defensive efforts!

Hawks ranked 14th at Stoppages overall (poor opportunities to fwds)
Hawks ranked 9th for disposal efficiency (Poor delivery)

Given the fact that when the game plan changed early in the year and the Hawks started playing slow around the boundary footy (Clarkos game style) you have to say that the fwds performed well. This style does nothing but help give opposition time to get back and outnumber the fwds (Hardly Barkers fault)

Looks to me like Barkers done a reasonable job, Hawks are ranked in best 4 in AFL at all important fwd stats. Sad to see him go but well done to the blues for what I think is a great pick up.

I've noticed other 'fact free' morons bag Barker for the Hawks goal kicking as well... How about their actual goalkicking coach - David Rath (who has never kicked a goal in an AFL game!!!!)

Hopefully the Hawks move the ball a bit quicker this year and give our fwds a chance 1 out. Pleeeeease Clarko.......
