I agree. Kirky, Kennelly, Shaw (left), Laidler, Perris and Papa Blakey. Some have been elsewhere, some have been here forever

I just feel it's too stale sometimes and borders on arrogance. Cox and Stevie were moves in the right direction

Mcveigh probably gets a coaching gig next year too. If horse DID leave, hope we dont promote internally...
Macca , people know my thoughts on him as a player at the start and end , should go to another club for 3 or 4 years , as he's too much the same. After that he might be the one , but playing so many games doesn't mean your going to be a good coach ,look at Voss, Hird etc., even Buckley.

He was gifted a good team, he almost made the most of it. He’s been a fantastic coach but he’s run out of puff in the past 2 years.

The team he took to the grand final in 2016 had 14 players that weren’t at the club when he took over, 11 of whom were drafted and developed while he was head coach.

That’s 14 of the 22 on the field.

The only Roos-holdover player still on the list but not in the squad that year was Ted Richards.
So from 2009-2016 you expected there to be the nucleus of the team? Let’s talk about evolution over a reasonably large period of time, but not only that, the ethos by which they played shall we? Are you seriously telling me that he’s change the way we played, inclusive of the period when he assisted to Paul Roos during his Premiership period? Nothing changed, it was all the same and X passed onto Y who in turn passed it on the Z.

Yes, the way we played absolutely changed. The 2012 team had a whole gameplan built around a makeshift forward line where we opened up heaps of space in our attacking 50. 2016 was a handball-heavy team that was built on absorbing countless inside i50s and rebounding quickly from there. Now we kick a lot more than previously, chip the ball around, and try to maintain possession (we’re bad at it). It’s absolutely changed.

Hahahaha, you’ve got to be kidding? The forward line remains open now, Franklin is 1 on 4 and the rest are down back. C’mon bulldog, I don’t blame you for not wanting to watch the trash that we put out there but it’s exactly the same trash, just with different contents!

Longmire deserves credit for falling short in 2016

he did have a couple of top draft picks and two high priced recruits, but still got us there

Find me predictions from the start of 2016 that thought we’d be anywhere near the grand final.

It’s a bigger achievement than people appreciate imo.

Take the game on. Attack more. Blah blah blah.

It might only be a temporary blip but has anyone noticed the scores over the last couple of rounds ? All these attacking sides in the comp

On top of that some of the football this weekend was amongst the worst football I have ever watched. There may have been pressure in some of the games but the freo west coast game was unwatchable. The first half of collingwood's game was excruciating. Skills like kicking to a target are non-existent across the league - not just the swans matches.

There have been 15 scores of 100 or more out of the last 72. Thats roughly 20%.

We do take the game on - plenty of times - I'd be happier though if the criticism was more like - take the game on but kick to the jersey not the player and structure the team so that when we do attack through the corridor we have something to kick to. Because we do attack and we do kick it long with the aim of getting the ball forward fast giving our forwards the best chance. But we don't kick it to advantage much and we do just hit it in the general direction of buddy and hope he does something amazing. And we do that over and over again so there must either be a game plan of hit and hope or we're just not very good at kicking the ball to targets other than the big guy.

i think too many have been spoiled by success. The team and the club are going to now have some lean years. I'm not actually fussed who coaches this team bec use i don't think its going to make a lot of difference. This side is going to have to grow with the view of hopefully being together in 2-3 years when the team are in the 25-28 year old sweet spot of success. But i fear that the buddy contract - and not the tippett one - as well as the amount we've had to pay the young players such as heeney, mills, jones if we can keep him will mean that our depth based on the swansfan51 model of success will always be a little light. So the only way we can succeed is if we don't cop injuries.

I don't particularly care whether Longmire stays or goes. I know that many on this thread have a passionate view that his time is up. No one is immortal and everyone leaves footy clubs disappointed. But I'd be much happier if there was greater reality in the thread - like this side is about where we should expect it to be and the team attacks as much as it can but the 2019 swans aren't actually that good especially by comparison with the really good swans sides over the past decade. But even more reality would recognise that the league itself must be incredibly defensively oriented if so many teams are winning with scores of less than 13 goals. Which says to me that maybe it isn't the game plan (unless every game plan in the league seems to be score as few points as you can manage while still aiming to win) but maybe the whole comp is a lot harder than it looks when sitting behind a screen in your room. Certainly thats my take away from the last 4 weeks and this rounds footy where i frequently bemoaned the failings of players from at least 12 teams- as longmire says its a really competitive league and its hard to win and the pressure is as high as its ever been. And as a diehard swans fan I can take away the knowledge that we've been in every game but we just can't manage to convert the chances when we are on top.

I hope we can turn it around. And whether they do or don't I hope we treat longmire with respect because he might be paid good coin but I simply don't want to be part of a winning is the only thing club. Its bloody important but how you treat people along the way is what is the true measure of a club.

and if we take the f*cking game on and get smashed by 60/70/80 points etc due to our poor skills and lack of players you'll be happy?
Would rather that than watching the ****ing trash we dish out these days! I’ve spent my years supporting the club in the dark days, the move, the 26 consecutive losses, Gary Buckenara...I can put up with our team doing something different now, so that I can once again watch some god damn entertaining football!

Winning scores Rd 1. 97, 72, 87, 87, 82, 102, 85, 112, 141 = 20%
Rd 2 . 110, 88, 76, 88, 126, 104, 107, 106, 61 = 56%
Rd 3. 99, 130, 93, 125, 107, 98, 73, 87, 71 = 20%

What’s your point? Where’s the consideration for weather, evenly matched teams, or maybe even how much teams attacked? I watched the footy this weekend too, the skills may not have been great but the games were fantastic as they ran at each other...we just kicked backward and sideways, allowed them to run with the ball, chasing their tail because that’s what we do! We get in front at some point and defend, defend, defend...its ****ing shit!
