The difference is that Adam Kingsley was a fresh voice bringing ideas from Richmond. His game plan is very Hardwick like with adjustments for his personnel.
Cox has been at Sydney for years. He has learnt most of his coaching from Longmire. He isn’t a fresh voice. He maybe the best but how do you know unless you talk to others and hear their philosophies and approaches to the game?
To be fair mate it worked ok when Horse took over from Roos.

Standards and all that.

Also Cox certainly did change a few things, we have evolved. It is now his course to set.

i have zero issue with it to be honest.

I cannot think of anyone on the market that screams take me.

I also can only think of Roos off the market that I would be keen on.

Our market up here is not Melbourne. It just isn't.

We have different priorities which drive me nuts but i am a realist.

Cox ticks all the boxes for any numbers of reasons and will tweak things I am sure.

Horse wasn't at the draft. Our draft made a few of us go hmmmm. Maybe that is the first step in what Cox wants to do. Make us smaller, change the structure and do it different.

I have no idea in reality of what was going on or what is going BUT I do know this.

I am more than happy, ecstatic actually, to have a clean easy transition to a bloke that will govern our club in a proper manner and do it right.

All the best for next year.

Big Cox has my vote and I am keen as for the next few years to see what happens.

He will bring his own ideas, every new coach does, and we have done the research if you think we've made the move on a Hail Mary think again. Look deeper in our gameplan many on here me included were saying unless we found a plan B we were never winning last year regardless where we came in the minor premiership. It was time to move one. A fresh set of eyes.
Well, good luck to him and your team.

Speculating here.

So after the Grand Final Horse was appointed to review what went wrong.
Maybe he found no answers.
Maybe he thought he himself was the problem.
He had a holiday, came back. Maybe wanted to tell the players direct.
Maybe he came back to pre season and thought “I just can’t do this any more”

Either way he has been a magnificent servant of the Club.

There’s zero chance they held extensive searches and interviews without something getting out. There are more media people in football than players!
You've made your point - now jog on.

However, you'd be amazed what well run clubs can do without it coming to light. Especially when they are not based in the Melbourne fishbowl.

I dont subscribe to the need to do a full blown process. It depends on the state of the list. And how close/far you believe you are from potentially winning a flag.

Cox is a known quantity, he's highly valued within the club and respected and sought-after outside of the club. That's 90% of the process right there imo.

The club knows Cox's strengths and weaknesses. While we capitulated in GF's, it's not as if we're way off course and need a new direction. We just need to make some minor adjustments.

We're within striking distance of a flag, so better to move forward with someone you know than take a punt on someone who you only have limited knowledge of.

Fair enough. Good luck.

Also lets be real there are NOT an endless supply of coaching candidates out there though getting Josh Carr to annoy the beejeezus out of Port fans is so appealing

Dean Cox will take over .
What a legend of the club , no matter what you think .
At least he has been big enough to see when it was over .
Now let's respect him
I agree. He has been wonderful for the Swans. He took our footy is a totally different direction to Roos. Inventing Slig Shot. He had the cattle for it, in Jetta etc. I am glad he made the decision, not the board.

Strange timing.
You'd think a new coach might have had a big say on the draft and recruitment.
Makes me think (unfortunately) that Cox will take over. I have even less confidence in him TBH.

Also it's good to see swans management not sweep the pathetic effort/commitment by the players on 24 GF day. A truly horrendous day that had to be addressed and has been. New broom the only way forward imo.

Maybe a swans person .
If i was you id go and enjoy your draft , as you've done well
Ok. I get it. A human being can’t ask that question. Only a human being who is a swan’s supporter can.

Right. I get the hint. That logic indicates I should move on. Thanks.

My counterpoint to that is the talent on the list hasn't changed.

We have list weaknesses - sure. But every club does. In total, it is still a quality list, with a lot of players still well and truly on the 'uptick' in terms of careers, not on the pathway to retirement. Cox will have a lot to work with - if he is any good as a coach (and he is clearly highly regarded in AFL circles) he is starting from a very high base point. As indeed Longmire did.

2025 is likely to be rocky with the change - as it would have been had Longmire stayed. But I don't think, in any shape or form, we can claim an 'era' is over, or we are headed down the drain.

The list is in as good a shape as the list horse inherited in 2010 - arguably potentially better. Lets see what Big Cox can do with it.
Can you tell me what Brisbane's list deficiencies are. I can't see them not winning 2025.

It was a fine question just had nothing to do with it in this case, Bedford is right he's very close to the club actually.

History. It's VERY rare for teams to go back to back.

Horse has been an important part of the ultimate successes we've had in 05 and 12, as well as keeping us (mostly) competitive in that time. Great coach, servant of the club, should be applauded for his decades as assistant and senior coach. And the players seem to have loved having him as a leader.

Just seems to have issues with performing or getting the team set up for grand finals after 2012, which is a necessary part of the job (at our club anyway). Looks like this is Horse-initiated, so credit to him for recognising he might not be the best option going forward.

Thanks Horse.
