To cap it off, thank you Horse for the 2012 flag. I remember watching it live on TV as a teenager and seeing their players giving it their all that day. We looked outmatched at times, but the players kept fighting on. It was a back and forth tussle, but we came out on top. I still remember you lifting that Premiership cup in joy on TV.

You oversaw a rebuild of new Swans talent from 2018 onwards, drafting players that were in 2 GFs. Sad ending, lots of things that could have been in those seasons. No one wanted it to end this way after a bittersweet season. But the 2012 flag will be cherished.

Thank you.

It's just sad the way he went out. I'm sure there's quite a few players in that room feeling guilty about how his career ended.

Mid season he would have dared to dream, perhaps this could be the year I can get flag #2, and then perhaps look at evening the GF ledger at 3-3. Only for it to fall in a heap and have to bow out 1-4 with no fuel left in the tank.

He was very complementary to the group for what they achieved this year. A little too complementary, but he seems like the guy that focuses on the positives and tries to draw that out.

Great man, just a shame the results didn't follow everything he put into this team.

I tell ya being in that room listening to that from a coach that gave it his all any player who didnt leave it out there on GF day would feel the guilt.

Not posting this in a smart-arsey, bragging way, if you click on the rest of the post a lot of it was crap that I was probably miles off with. But I posted this earlier in the season about Horse's body language:

For better or for worse, Horse's MO has often been an unwavering, "nothing to see here!" nonchalance in the face of adversity. He always had enough zest in his press conferences to at least present a convincing facade that he and his staff had everything under control, that everything was fine and he'd roll out the cliches that generally worked for him and, eventually, the team.

However around the time of that quote ^, he legitimately looked exhausted and perplexed by our form slump and it was the first time I'd EVER seen him, in 14 years, look troubled by the circumstances in front of him, and the first time he'd showed his vulnerability in regards to what was happening with his team.

In hindsight I now wonder if this was around the time when it really crystallised to him that he didn't have enough left in the tank to go another year.
Could be. Wondering myself if it coincided with where we lost our way from 13-1 or maybe a bit earlier. Perhaps he became less demanding. Who knows?

I'm very intrigued to see how Cox approaches it. Will it be a 'steady as she goes' approach, or will he have new ideas to unlock the true potential of the playing list - hopefully the latter.

As long as the first move is to fire our club psychologist and find someone else, then he has my support ha!
Personally, I think the club tribunal lawyer needs to go first. Pretty sure I heard him muttering outside the tribunal that he wouldn’t let Parker’s or Heeney’s suspensions define him.

Feels weird, albeit very good timing in terms of our immediate future - i think the group would've felt a stale daunting vibe starting another pre-season on the back of that GF loss. And i rekn Horse felt that too.

I am scared though, very scared. There is absolutely no doubt Horse has been the number 1 reason for our unwavering stability as a club for the last 15 years. This is either going to be a continuation of it, or the end of it. The club will either continue it's legacy or we will finally remember what it's like to be unremarkable.

Great timing for Horse too, highlights his professionalism and makes him even more desired. Will be the number 1 target for any club looking at a new coach. In fact I think he is so well respected that even coaches with the cushiest of jobs could all of a sudden be in the firing line.
Would not be surprised to see North go after him, if they burn through Clarkson

Clarifying some questions people had -

Longmire says he didn’t know what his future was coming into the grand final but after a trip to the UK in recent weeks on one of his regular fact-finding missions with other major sports, things became a lot clearer.

When he returned he called Pridham and Harley to arrange a lunch where he told them he was done. They already had a Plan B in place to keep Longmire at the club with the new role of Executive Director – Club Performance coming to life.

Based on the article the decision was pretty recent by the sounds of things even though he'd sort flagged it Pridham etc that he was becoming more interested in other aspects of football. So Cox has known for about a week that he was our new Coach, which is much later than I had thought. But once Horse had made his decision, we were pretty quick to move on things, and we were able to do so because our succession planning was already in place. Again.

Not really, you can have both a smooth transition and maintain stability, you wouldn’t have it all occur all at once, we have completed this successfully already, Roos ➡️ Longmire, Colless ➡️ Pridham, Ireland ➡️ Harley (I think)
We are now seeing Longmire ➡️ Cox & the Beatson ▶️ Keane

At some stage it will be Pridham, we have managed these changes well, so it is not a ridiculous comment,
It was a ridiculous comment because he wanted everyone replaced now. Not over a period of years such as you have shown. The poster was accusing our club as being a failure due to the grand final losses. Wonder what he'd be saying if he followed Essendon. Now, there is a failure.
