I would've thought Wingard was adequate compensation. I really feel for you though ;)

Yeah. Pretty much. Sort of. We finished 16th in 2011 with 3 wins, with 1 win in the final round against Melbourne. Just a month earlier we had lost by 130 points + in consecutive weeks. And we got... pick 6. In any other year that would have been a priority pick + pick 1 - so potentially Cameron/Patton and Wingard... But, you know, Thank god we landed Wingard with that pick 6.

Start of first round priority picks no longer exist.

Be thankful that GWS suck at drafting.

Looks good at that level. The real test will come when he has to play on good big defenders. BTW what is with his weird kicking style? He starts ok and then accelerates to the right just before he kicks. Another Buddy arc?
the same thing happened with daniher this year, he dominated when he played in the VFL, but when played in the AFL, showed bits and pieces of what he is capable of but was often out muscled buy bigger bodied defenders. but saying that Hogan looks like a fair size for his age already

It's an odd style for sure but he's pretty accurate so I'm not complaining.

Havn't seen that much from Daniher that screams star. Still very young though.
If you watch our game against Gold Coast, Daniher absolutely dominated the first half against kids around his age. iirc he had more contested marks than the entire GC team, 3 goals and ~15 possies in just two quarters. Give a few preseasons and he'll be doing that consistently.

Right now it would probably be Hogan, Daniher, Patton and Boyd (in that order) for the best player. For the future I would say Boyd has the most potential with Hogan and Daniher not too far behind. Patton might be the worst of the lot but that is incredibly dependent on how his knees hold up.

All ridiculously good. Of those four, Hogan has shown the most IMO. Patton looked really good as a junior but has had a few injury setbacks. Boyd has potential to be great too. Daniher... not sure, haven't seen much of him.

Makes me sad as a Port supporter, though. If if it weren't for expansion teams and the priority picks being abolished, we'd have at least one of Patton, Boyd, Hogan or Cameron.

You don't need any of them

I have no idea how you've managed to reach any of those conclusions.

Daniher will be an absolute freak. Pains me to say it because I hate essendon, but he showed more than enough this year.

The one game Hogan played for Casey that was televised, for those who haven't seen him:

Won Casey's best and fairest, who were a top 4 team in the VFL, despite missing 5 or 6 games during the season. Also came equal third in the VFL's equivalent of the Brownlow.

Wow. Wonder if roos will take all the credit??

Yeah, besides the Hawthorn game when he was subbed (and the ball rarely went forward) I think he has been pretty good. Particularly given his physical development is a fair bit behind the other three mentioned in his topic who could all be regarded as man-childs. His goalkicking was fairly terrible but he was more accurate in the VFL on inferior grounds and in inferior conditions. I suspect his goalkicking accuracy will become more than adequate next year given the number of times the Bombers play at Etihad.

Excluding the Hawthorn game when he was subbed:

Daniher: 4 games / 14.5 disposals / 6.25 marks (1.5 contested) / 3 scoring shots (0.25 goal assists) / 81% time on ground

Compared with the first seasons for Patton and Cameron (excluding games when they were subbed):

Patton: 4 games / 6.5 disposals / 2.75 marks (1.0 contested) / 1.25 scoring shots (0.75 goal assists) / 81% time on ground
Cameron: 15 games / 10.5 disposals / 5.2 marks (1.7 contested) / 2.9 scoring shots (0.75 goal assists) / 90% time on ground

The sample size for both Patton (subbed three times) and Daniher (subbed once) is obviously small so treat the numbers with some caution. But with the exception of goalkicking accuracy his season seems to have been very good. This is not to say that Daniher will be as good as Cameron, I'm not trying to say that, I'm simply pointing out that he acquitted himself pretty well onfield in 2013 and with another pre-season and an additional 5kgs should have a very nice 2014.

Hopefully for the competition all of these players will become superstar talents. The game benefits greatly from the existence of dominant key forwards and from my perspective we can never have enough of them.

Jeremy Cameron is the best young forward and above all those listed as it stands, has proven in his second year he is up there with the best.

It's hard to gauge of the others who will be the best, as it's mostly speculation but all have big wraps. Hogan for instance just won Casey's b&f in his first VFL season.
He is the only forward for his team sure he kicks regular kicks goals as his team is getting flogged who cares thread is about the four posted. Hogan by a fair way

More arc than Buddy, can't see that standing up under pressure. Though it's infinitely better than Daniher.

Boyd looks a much better disposer of the ball.
