It's interesting how he evolved as a player - we didn't see nearly as much of him juking players from 55m and bombing it in. Do wonder if he lost some explosiveness after the groin issues.

Was almost a much more simple, straightforward approach from Joe that was still devastatingly effective.

that's probably true but i'd say that's also because Brisbane is way better run and coached than Essendon.

Our offense is still as haphazard as it was back when joe was with us lol

Although the vast majority have been very fair , frankly I'm still a little dumbfounded by a couple of the comments.

Sure, these guys are very well paid , in the public eye, but at the end of the day, they are still normal human beings just like rest of us, that just happened to be good at football.

So im not sure if we should hold them to some different, elevated and unreasonable standard that we wouldn't hold ourselves to?

Anyone that has ever worked in job that isn't making them happy ( regardless of your on 80k or 800k) would know that when the rubber hits the road , family, mental health and overall wellbeing etc absolutely has to come first.

I'd think he should be commended not just for his exploits on the field and the entertainment hes provided fans of 2 clubs.
But probably equally, if not more so for making what you could only imagine would be an incrediblely difficult call - to put aside money (and without knowing his situation) , potentially future financial security in the pursuit of happiness .Frankly a call that i wonder if many of us in the same situation ( including me mind you ) may not have the balls to make.

As a passionate Lions man, naturally , I'm shattered that he's gone. He'll be difficult , if not impossible to replace , and yes , his departure will likely effect our chance of going back to back. But hell, thems the breaks ,its just a game and let's face it we wouldn't have got there there in the first place without him.

Flags are few and far between and us old Fitzroy ,Bears, or Brisbane lions supporters ( and undoubtedly most other clubs fans) will attest to , how rare and frustingly hard they are to come by.

He was ice cold and clutch when it counted and played an enormous role in getting us to the top of the mountain. And sheesh, let me tell ya guys , the view from up here, well, its bloody spectacular.

So, he decided it was his time , Good on him. I'll always look back with immense gratitude that he helped get us one. Because frankly, who knows if ill be around to see the next one.

Go well big Joe, and thanks for all the fish.

A premiership star for Brisbane AND a famous name who left Essendon after being mismanaged.

Its a cracking story!

He's my favourite player not in Brown and Gold.

No one will remember he ever played for Essendon...

silly post,

of course, everyone will remember it considering he reached over 100 games with us and therefore reaches F/S.

Joe didn't like being at Essendon because of continuous culture of ordinariness so he left.
Joe didn't like Brisbane's culture of continuous high performance and excellence so he retired.

I think we should have stayed in that middle cultural quagmire of mediocrity.

Joe would still be on our list.

Gees Fages, why did you do it mate? Now I lost my favourite player.
