Jonothan Brown Is The Leagues Most Overrated Player

When thinking of a key position player, he would be the first player I would pick. Brown crashes packs like the big men of old without concern for his personal safety. He appears to be a tremendous leader and has single handedly destroyed us a number of times.

Choice between Brown, Pavlich and Richo...I'll take Brown anytime thanks.

I'd take the Pav. The guy single handedly manages to get Fremantle in a winning position once a month or so. I know he seems to choke from time to time, but seriously, HE MANAGES TO GET FREO INTO WINNING POSITIONS!!!
Herculean effort.

Mind you, the best single handed destruction of a team I have ever seen was when Brown kicked 8 against us in 2 1/2 quarters in 2005. Dale Thomas would have put up a better fight against Schwarzenegger in this prime. The man was possessed.

A team of HACKS make him appear to be a better, more skillful player than he actually is.

If he played in a skilled team like Geelong his shit skills would be magnified. Do you comprehend yet flog?

A lot like Anthony Rocca yeah?

This is quintessential Brown love.

I'm afraid his output has never quite equalled his reputation; a reputation born largely of stuff like "he crashes the packs like the big men of old.." It's all without much substance.

BTW. single handedly destroying Essendon of late is hardly a noteworthy achievement.

I agree. I've always felt the media were desperate for another Carey and picked Brown to "borrow" that status before the next bloke comes along... Brown has never been the player the media have portrayed him as.

As for destroying Essendon, he's kicked a bag of 8 and a bag of 5... the other 11 games aren't worth mentioning.

So going by your description of a good player David Neitz and The G-train are better players than Richo. He won his coleman in a year with weak competition. Has Brown ever kicked over 90 goals in a season? Richo sure has and Brown hasn't.

Look at the fowards Brown has played along side, compared to Richo and its no wonder he hasn't kicked 90 goals or more. I'd take 40-50 from brown with simlar contributions from other fowards then have 90 from Richo with small contributions from other fowards.

He got a free ride in the 3 premierships and has done nothing as a player except for a stellar 2007/mediocre 2008 season.
70 odd goals is a mediocre season? in a side that didn't play finals? There goes your credibility. Oh, and Richo is easily the most overrated. At least Brown can kick a drop punt.

Agreed, very much overrated, not the best CHF this decade, and comparisons to carey are laughable.

Don't get it twisted - has had the one elite season, and last year was quite good, and the rest were effective.

Still, has been very serviceable to the lions and is an able key forward that all teams would take.

Precisely. His "Carey-like presence" had a lot to do with the wank juices emanating from the media and quite a few Brisbane supporters. While he's a pretty good CHF and has finally delivered, there are other forwards in the AFL who have performed better over a longer period of time who did not get as much recognition. You have someone like Pavlich in the background being super consistent, whereas Brown gets all the plaudits just because he takes one pack mark vs three people every few weeks. Tredrea? Forget about him, even though he dominated at CHF for years... because Brown had "presence". Hall? Nah, just a thug. Riewoldt? He certainly couldn't match him due to his crybaby status, surely not!

I'm suprised you wouldn't of thought of Scott Lucas tearing us a new one and kicking 7 in the last qtr and thus costing us the double chance in the finals since it put Port's % above our own. That was an utter destruction :(

Where to start....

First - spell his name correctly. As MANY people have shown on Bay 13, this may be a troll forum but it's surprisingly full of people who know their English (a very good thing). So, when you turn up misspelling things, you look a fool.

Second - JB is a CHF. He's not a FF. He has played just ONE season as a FF in his whole career, and - surprise - he won the Coleman. Potting him as a FF is therefore an exercise in masochism.

Third - A comment I have wanted to make for a while - people seem to think JB is on his last legs in the next year, or two, or maximum three. What they don't realise is that when Brownie is done with CHF, Voss will park him in the square like a more agile Lockett, and have himself a FF again. Why this has not been taken up by others I have no idea. When Bradshaw was out for the year (2007) Brownie won the Coleman from FF. Fine, he's a natural CHF but of COURSE he's going to play his last couple of years at FF, and of COURSE he's going to take one HELL of a defender to outmark him in the square. In the meantime, we'll be developing CHF's to take his place. Therefore, to those who think he's a one trick pony... idiots, just keep watching.

Fourth - Leadership. Given no one has ever trolled his ability to inspire by example, I obviously need say no more.

Fifth - Loyalty builds a club. I have children, 5 and 3. My 3yo boy is a Lion, like I was when I was 3, and have always been. If I'd been taught as a young boy that disloyalty was OK, so long as you put yourself first, I'd be a VERY different man today, and the Duritz I am today would not like the Duritz I would've been. JB personifies loyalty.

So troll JB at your peril, because the man's actions speak far more loudly than any pathetic trolls. He is the epitome of a footballer in everything he ever does, on and off the field.

That was epic and if I was there it would definitely have rated umber 1 on my list. But you kind of lose something when it's on the TV IMO. You can't quite appreciate what's going on.

You have much to teach them Duritz.

Ah Thrawn. Name may be in bold but still speaks utter codshit.

The Carey comparisons, very, very, very rarey came from Brisbane supporters. Was almost always a call made from the outside.

As for him being overrated... its true.

Unfortunately mental short people seem to use the word "overrated" as a synonym for "crap" which couldn't be further from the truth. When a player is overrated, people for some reason turn their angst on the player in question, rather than on the people who did the overrating to behin with.

Brown was in Lynch's shadow early on, and a terrible injury run unfortunately limited his impact in his peak years.

His statistics compare favourably with with Riewoldt and Tredrea... decent company to be in and has given Brisbane supporters plenty of enjoyment. Good enough for Bigfooty's premier and most prolific poster to dedicate his username to the great man.

I put up with you until you compared him to Lockett. Plugga regularly destroyed a side in 20 minutes, Browns probably done that 5 times in a 160 odd games.

Loyalty isnt really relevent in assessing a players worth, more to do with him being a good bloke.

Well I never put up with anyone named after "strauchny" or "strawny" or WTF he'd called....

That notwithstanding, I didn't COMPARE him to Lockett, I likened his position with Lockett. Again, there's plenty of people on this forum with a great deal of ability as regards English, so let's get things right. (As a quick aside, I've never had any reason to question my abilities at this great language, but I certainly do check my writing on the Bay before posting...)

So, again - didn't compare him to Lockett. Tony Lockett was, and always will be, a MUCH better footballer than JB. They are not in the same division, and JB would readily admit the same. I was making the comparison that JB will end his career in much the same way Plugger did, and though JB is/will be more agile (a given) he will never be the footballer Plugger was.

I know it's petty, but since you mentioned it,you really do deserve to be singled out and laughed at (he'd).

If you're really going to pull that shit, at least practice what you preach, check your spelling!
