Geelong has the downsides of Melbourne weather without the upsides of Perth likes beaches and a modern city.

Both are boring. Kinda rather be bored in a beautiful part of the world than a cool hole.

Geelong is... not great. But the Surf coast is very nice and I think most of our players live down there.

Interesting one here. He's played 11 games out of 46 over the past two years but had a good debut season, is under contract and was a first round pick. If he requests a trade to Freo then what's his worth? I don't think there's enough evidence over the last 2 years to suggest a second round pick straight up. Might be a second rounder with a third or 4th going back to Freo.

I think 27 is the best we will get but honestly i think we might keep him..yes theres a risk we lose him for less in 12 months but with the change in assistants he might get more games and want to stay..and with a lot of retirements in 12 months we will have $ to offer him a lot more money then..so we might back ourselves in and retain him..especially if we lose other fringe players.

It's 100% worth a shot at keeping him to his contract. There's zero doubt he'll be b22 in 12 months

And even if he isnt (best 22) trading him in a better draft next year might be better than trading him in this one..but we will see.

If he struggles for a game again there's no way you get more than a mid 3rd round pick.

I agree with that but i think its a risk worth taking..12 months of clark when we are in the window is worth more to us than a slightly better pick plus it gives us 12 months to make other related decisions about the list. But we will see.

Clarke is an interesting case, because he isn't struggling to get a game due to lack of talent, but solely because Geelong were focusing on experience and the rumoured bad relationship with Scarlett (is it even rumour at this point?). I think Geelong will want a decent pick for him, and Freo will be in their rights to not want to give up that pick.

Ultimately if Geelong feel he will be best 22 next year for sure, I think they will just keep him a la Tim kelly and either hope he decides to stay after, or his trade value is raised enough to be a good pick. If they don't feel he is best 22 regardless, then they might be happy with the late 20's.

Rather give him a shot and hope the idiots at Geelong actually play him in his actual position. If we lose a chance at a R2 this year so be it. The reward is far greater and he has too much talent to throw away and he is still under contract.

Keep him to his contract if all tag is offered is 27, which will be into the 30s on draft night.

The whole "pick x will be moved back on draft night" is kinda stupid. It's the 27th pick of the open draft still.

True but it's kind of only adjacent to the point he's making, in that a second round pick this year is of lesser value than getting anther 12 months out of the kid and maybe convincing him to stay in the process

You would have to think that Geelongs cap is absolutely bulging with the Covid cuts and no big contracts out. If Clarke is on 400k a year it could well be a salary cap dump for Geelong. If that's the case they are much better off changing a 400k salary for an 80k draftee salary and spreading the 320k amongst the other players to bring some relief particularly if he is likely to want to leave at the end of next year anyway.

I'm really surprised he hasn't come on as expected. I thought he would be one of the next generation of premier half backs in the AFL from his junior years. Was playing WAFL league footy at 17 and producing better numbers then that in any of his AFL seasons.

Don't think our cap situation is too bad compared to a lot of other clubs. Our trade ins have never got the kid of pay bump you get for winning a premiership and a lot of them were accepting less money. We're certainly not going to break the bank over 300k next year, which Jordan would likely not even be earning yet

I tend to agree with all of that. With Scarlett going a new defensive coach might change things with him.
