Lewis more flexible, but sewell has kept him out of the centre square for much of his career

Ps I know we heavily rotate, but sewell has been with mitch the first choice inside players

So far, Sewell.

So many times I've mumbled his name under my breathe after seeing him monster out of a contested situation. Talk about getting the best out of your attributes. Warrior.

Is Sewell first choice or is it just that he pretty much plays centre square or nowhere? A big part of Lewis' huge year has been the increase midfield time he's had with so many injuries. I reckon Lewis could have done the same in the past few years but had too many similar players, and some of them couldn't play anywhere else.

Both have been champions of our great club over many years. Sewell is a true professional who has gotten the most out of himself. One of our best finals performers but is coming towards the end. Hope he finishes playing good footy as he's been a war horse.

Lewis is one of our most valuable and versatile players. Hard, skilful and a terrific leader he must now be considered an elite mid in his own right. Hopefully he finishes as a 300 game, triple premiership player, captain and B&F winner.

Tough to split them but I'd have to go with Lewis due to his superior skill, versatility and scoreboard impact, both in goals and assists.

Brad Sewell was arguably our best player in 2009 when everybody else was hungover.

He averaged per game:
25.8 touches (career high)
5.2 clearances (5th most in the league)
4.9 inside 50s (6th most in the league)
6.5 tackles (5th most in the league)
and polled as many brownlow votes as S Mitchell despite playing 3 less games.

Was surprised he only came 4th in the B&F - Lewis came 9th that year.

I had this up on the Polls Board for neutrals just before the season stared and it was really close for the oppo supporters who all had nothing but praise and respect for both players. Fwiw, Lewis just edged out Sewelly there for same reasons given here. Sewelly a contested ball monster but Lewis is the better disposer, higher inside 50's, more goals and has shown that he with more time in the middle is a Clearence/Stoppage Monster as well so Lewy by a Bee's...

Both have been great players for the club. Unfortunately age and body fatigue is catching up to sewelly and I only hope he can come good for his last big crack for another flag. His bulk and footy smarts amongst other big bodies in finals is invaluable. As for Lewis it's business as usual. Has matured immensely and controls his aggression toward the footy (then again I'm just looking back at his early days particularly against North where he'd often get done for silly tummy taps and hits). For me hard to split right now.

Sewell...for now. Is in the mould of the likes of Dermie, Dipper, Ayres, Lethal etc. who all saved their best for the big games.

I think the Chief will overhaul him though in the long run- we'd have been in a lot of trouble this year had it not been for Lewis (and Silk).

Final's Average: 25.2 disposals, 4 marks, 6 tackles

Remarkable record in finals.

I can't split them at all.

Both fantastic contributors to the club and the team structure as a whole.

Both terrific inside players, but the one point Lewis gets over Sewell is in the outside stuff. Poor old Sewelly, bless is heart, couldn't outrun a sloth...:p

each player is highly, and quite unfairly, underrated and Lewis should be a walk up for the AA this year.

Love the game of both these guys. Very hard to separate

Hard at it and great team players all the way.

If I was running out of full forward I would probably prefer Taz's boot.

Sewelly has the runs on the board for big games and Taz has been very consistent over a long period of time.

Glad they are both at Hawthorn and not somewhere else.

You're saying you didn't want Ryan Ferguson to join Hawthorn?

Both of em have 2 Premierships a piece....Lets just hope that in 8 weeks time they both have 3 to their name....Then they'll both be Hawk Legends!:thumbsu:

And one step further there Pro 35 is they will be elevated to a special place in hawks history as being only 2 of a group of about 44 to have won B2B for this mighty club.

Go hawks. History awaits.

Not to mention 2 of only 30 to have played in 3 Premierships!

lewis got around 5 years left to play, and career best form atm... man does anybody have the same problem where sometimes you rarely see lewis on the field and u check the stats after the game and hes had 30 possies n shit.. hes like the invisible man, thatll prob hurt him when it comes to brownlow, cos umpires pick the more flashy players, which is natural since other players get noticed a lot and i swear i rarely c lewis...
always suprised after a game to check stats, and Lewis is top 1 in stats for the year.. Shrug maybe im blind or whatever, but yeh when Rioli gets the ball, ill notice it ebery single time i guess.. but yeh lewis is a beauty, defends ok, inside mid, forward with good set shot kicking for goal and plays the defensive forward role sometimes.. and yeh our 3rd ruckman in a game... 5-10 hitouts n shit.. Lewis the new ruckman at stoppages.. yeh i know he comes 3rd man in. i get it.. i wonder why they chose him to do it tho, hes not very tall and i dont think he is that agile? cant jump really high too.. they should get someone else to do it since lewis is in hot form, third man up and lewis got a chance to get it on the deck..dunno y clarko wants him to do it.. maybe its important? but yeh i cant see the benefit..

This is a close call

I think Sewell only because he plays his best football on the biggest stage - Almost won the 2012 Grand Final for us - is a monster in those huge games with the the pressure on (mainly because he is the one putting the pressure on)

??? Lewis' game in the 2011 prelim was just as good. Almost won us the game on his own
