i would think that he would certainly be in the squad 25....and he will surely be given an opportunity to prove himself...

also, does anyone know if he is on a 2 year contract or a 1 year?? do they automatically go on to a 2 year deal if they're promoted from the rookie list??

i would love it if he played 5 games or more, but i just dont think there is a spot for him, maybe if we get injuries (plz no)

Gibson > Green.

Mate... Schwarze was so unlucky not to get picked this year that its not funny.... should have even got a game ahead of a few others...... his confidence would have ben shattered, dominated for 8 weeks straight for Port and was an emergency a few times but never cracked it... he will play at least 5 games minimum next year. Very underrated by most on here.

Not really a good kick.

Urch, Trotter and Smith will play on the back flank before him me thinks...

But yes, he was very stiff, if Lance played, I could have

this kid is a freak!!!! i saw him play a couple of vfl games and asked my self why isn't he playing for the roos?? his skills are spot on and he is pretty well built to! surely he can play a couple of games right??

I am not overly optimistic that Gibson will do anything special with the Roos.
He will get a couple of games this year, but wouldn't expect to see him on our list in 4 years.

I hope this thread comes back to haunt me.

I'm finding it interesting that people are predicting wholesale changes to the midfield group. Explain to me how we can fit all these youngsters in a midfield that is only down two players?? (Stevens and Lance). Grima will have one spot, and the other is up for grabs I'd say. But really, don't get your hopes up. We'll see probably 5 midfield youngsters get a game over the season. Plus McConnell will probably squeeze in there, who is supposedly alright. (Ohh...I'm getting excited! How many more months?? :) )

I'm amazed people think Gibson is better than Watt.

Based on what exactly?
Gibson has better attributes than Watt, infact alot better.

With respect - there needs to be some consideration between the relative standard of AFL compared to VFL.

Gibson had a good season in VFL, albeit he did spend some time in The Borough 2's. (This could have been due to the selection in-fighting).

However, to suggest that Gibson has more to offer than Watt is stretching ones powers of imagination. Not to suggest that Watt is a gun, but he did a very servicable job in the very important key defensive positions (CHB & FB).

The question is can Gibson force Watt out of either of these roles, if not then the comparision is unfair and unfounded. I am assuming that the Pre-season might give some indication as I expect Gibson to get a run.

Yeah he was playing 2nds because of the stupid rule of 12-10.

Gibson will prove to be a better player, thats just my opinion though.

Kicking, marking, speed with smarts etc etc.....I think in all this Gibson wins.

Bullocks, you obviously have not seen him play. His best asset is undeniably his good long kicking. I struggle to think of many better at the club to be honest. The number of long goals he kicked in tricky windy conditions for Port single handedly proves how good a kick he is.

His major query has to be his defensive side. He often runs off his man and becomes a damaging player. You can get away with that playing on a nuffy at VFL level, but at AFL level? Nup.

Also, he is best suited to playing on a wing and running forward, he is not a defender due to his defensive deficiencies. He plays smaller than his height too.

I am not convinced he will make it at AFL level, but it was nothing short of disgraceful that he didn't get a game last year. Will hopefully get a few next year, but our depth has improved so his chances have diminished.
