Judd's Brownlow - Evidence of fixing in AFL?

Remove this Banner Ad

The great unwashed are sounding almost as bad as some of us Carlton supporters after we were handed our penalties in November 2002.

The funny thing is with all this 'fixing'...'rigging'.......'corruption' is that whoever wins this weekend, there will be a premiership team that has TANKED, joining Hawthorn of 2005 when they led Richmond by 7 goals but got rolled - a win would have resulted in them losing one of their picks.

Never forget Round 19 2005 North Melbourne Vs Collingwood where the great unwashed led by 15 points with 3.5 minutes remaining and got rolled - a win which would have resulted in their first pick being pick 5 and missing out probably on the great unwashed from Moe.

The great unwashed are soooooooooooooooooooo pure........not tainted at all....................................nahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

How could the AFL rig the brownlow when they are too busy rigging the draw to Favour CollingFilth with the last however-many-games-it-was at the MCG???? ;)

Fair dinkum, its frightening that the OP spent time on the conspiracy theory and then thought "**** it. I should share this with the whole world, not just me mates at the pub at the others on the Pie Board. This deserves to be on the Main Board".

Call me a blinkered Collingwood supporter but I barely even noticed him this year! Didn't create any headlines at all... I'm staggered he beat Swan and Ablett...

You Pies supporters need to start behaving like men. Suck it up. He won. Your man lost.

We don't need the 50 effing threads telling us that Swan was cheated. F@ck you are bad losers.

Those that did their homework on the event (see the above poster) are not at all surprised by this result.

Loving this stuff.....would rather be playing in a GF this weekend but gee it is classic stuff...
Cheers mate, I don't know about Vlad, but I'm a few grand up at least thanks to Juddy. The thing that pisses me off is not the backlash but that everyone backs up their statement with saying Swan was robbed. Just because someone is $1.60 to win something does not mean they are going to win or even should win. Bookies favourite does not equal best player of 2010. Give me Pendlebury any day of the week.

I'm honestly embarrassed to be a Collingwood supporter when people post $hit like this. The OP is a perfect example of what happens when inbreeding is left rampant.

I must admit I am impressed that you have actually learnt to turn on a computer, let alone use the keyboard. Just a reminder, the monitor is for viewing, not for licking.

I didn't watch many Blues games so was naturally surprised, but the fact Judd was Carlton's barometer in nearly every game meant he was always going to feature in any win or close loss.
The Pies had 3 or 4 quality contributors week in week out, same with the Dogs & Saints.
The Hawks didn't dominate enough games so votes were spread between both sides in a number of those tight games.
Goddard and Hodge played midfield/quarterback roles which the umps obviously don't put too much emphasis on. It's only natural for a decent player to win possession across half back, win a decent share of centre clearances or kick goals when moved forward...happens all the time..
Instead they would have seen the no. 5 in the Blues jumper, sometimes their only player, back against the wall, against the tide, breaking free from contested situations and decided that this particular trait far outweighed a dominant KPP or hard running possession racking, goal kicking mid or versatile utility-type dominator.
Will keep this in mind next time I bet on this event, the Mooney Valley of AFL player awards.

Are you criticising Judd's disposal when you have Swan as your best player?

Why not? Swan hits his targets, Judd either turns the ball over directly, or kicks dribblers that put his team mates under the pump. Pretty much the only way he manages to get an effective disposal these days is through handball and even then he screws up a lot. Basically Swan is far more damaging while Judd is a liability, I know who I prefer.

Worthy of the win who knows, but I do know Judd was;

No. 1 contested ball winner in the league and no.3 for clearances.

Thats not a bad year.

Swan was great too -

If you are looking for scapegoats to vent how bout looking at Pendlebury, Judd couldn't have done much more this year.

Hey Ricmel

......get ready for plenty much of the same whinging, groaning, moaning and guts aching mulitude of " we were wobbed, the biased umpiring, the cheating Saints" threads... etc etc .....if your mighty Saints' boys can do the right thing on Saturday !!!

Go Sainters !!!!!

2010. The year the Brownlow died. Move over Brownlow, the MVP is fast approaching as the most sought after individual award in football. The king is dead, long live the king.
The Leigh Matthews Trophy surpassed the Brownlow years ago.

The real conspiracy is judd avoiding punishment for elbowing Pavlich's face.

Players such as Swan, Pendlebury, Sandilands, Goddard, Hayes, Lake, Ablett and Hodge were more deserving of winning than the ineffective mercenary.

The choice of this year's winner is a slap in the face to past greats of the game.

Yep.

Blinkered fool.

Go back to the Collingwood board and continue your circle jerk over Swan there. Everyone here has had a gut full of your whining.

Wasn't a problem when you were gifted the 2005 Grand Final and Barry Hall got off a charge prior to the game, AFL needed you guys to win to get NSW onboard as it was one of the NRL states. Oh yes, the drug allegations of the '80s as well, how about you take off the blinkers, Ronald McDonald!

No,No,No it's been decided already. The filth wont get a single free on Saturday. The same umpires that got Judd the Brownlow are officiating, and as soon as the winning Collingwood goal is judged a point, they're hopping on a plane to South America with their Brownlow winnings!!

I think this thread is a big joke.

What happened on Monday night just exposed a massive flaw in using the brownlow as a form of judging the seasons best player. There is no giant conspiracy or fix on here just the way the whole medal is designed has a major flaw for judging the best performers.

This debate goes back the 50 odd years ago when Witten couldn't get a Brownlow either.

If you want to look a little skinnier, you should hang around with fat people.

If you want to appear to be a better footballer and stand out amongst your peers, you should play for Carlton Football Club.

:)

Grant Thomas, then coach of St Kilda slammed umpires for their inconsistency, St Kilda went on to lose the next game by the closest margin. An umpire was heard onboard a flight back to Melbourne to comment on the game, leading the listener to suspect he was one of the people responsible for the result. I remember this from a post in Bigfooty some time ago. Another thing, players get suspended for offences that would not otherwise be the result for other players in other teams. Is that not also a possible point where matches can be fixed? So yes, if you are smart enough to understand that, perhaps corruption does exist here and not just in Pakistan cricket....

jesus this is ridiculous, hardly noticed him??? very average??? some people need to get their hand off it, i watched as much of Judd as i was able to (he is why i watch carlton) and he was very good for most of the season, he was in the top 5 midfielders

Swan, Ablett, Judd, Hodge, Goddard

followed by Pendlebury, Selwood, Hayes, Montagna and Boyd to round out the top ten... any of those top 10 if they had won the Brownlow would have deserved it, but there is no doubt that Swan deserved it 'the most'... however, Judd had a fantastic year and still deserved the award... for thos who say Judd always polls well... the last couple of years he hasn't polled so, getting 16 votes in his first two years at Carlton, where he was good, but not setting the world on fire (as well as being injury effected)

get over it, you have a chance at a premiership
