Why can't Essendon have as their clash strip an all black jumper with a very narrow red sash (ie, a couple of centimetres)? That'd appear to resolve the clash with Melbourne and let them keep their traditional sash.
Melbourne's jumper has more dark blue than red.

The AFL has given the clubs a chance to redesign a clash strip, but in the end clubs like collingwood and essendon will be punished by having a firm outside the club redesign the jumper.

Stop being so stubborn and embrace such a small change you knucklehead victorians!

In my opinion there is no clash between Melbourne and Essendon. If you can't tell those jumpers apart you need your eyes checked. The reality is none of the Victorian clubs need to a clash jumper, as all the standard excuses are obsolete:

1. Black & White television - obsolete medium. No one has it.
2. Muddy grounds - virtually never seen anymore. Not an issue.

Change is fine - when it is warranted and brings an improvement. This does not.

Essendon cannot possibly design a suitable clash jumper against Melbourne with their current colours, unless they introduce polka dots. No design in red and black will clash any better or worse than their current design.

They need to either add a third colour. And it cant be white because it would clash further with StKilda, or yellow because it would clash further with Richmnond. I suggest pink.

Or alternatively they could tell the AFL to sod off.

The stupid AFL rule says the 'clash' jumper must be predominately a lighter colour

So under the AFL's stupid rule Essendon had no choice but to submit something with more red (which Melbourne reckons clashes even more so due to the extra red - despite them having a red clash jumper themselves)

Just highlights the farce of the whole situation

You have every right...
Too bad you need it so much. Which would you rather? Play a home game in Brisbane or wear a different shirt for a game. You have sold out already why not take our money

So you're happy for Essendon to pay us $500k? That's how much we get out of the Queensland game.

Sold!

That's right, and also applies to St. Kilda as well.

What colours do we have in common with Melbourne and St. Kilda? Well, red for one. So what does the AFL do? They tell us to ADD red. Idiotic.

Essendon should wear the heritage strip (skinny sash, which means less red and more black) in round 12 as an experiment.

The AFL are introducing fines of $110k for not wearing a clash jumper. If you don't do a deal for less than that, they'll just pay the fine to the league and you'll get sod-all.

I would rather just have the so called "clash"
I think that if they are able to play for 100 years with these jumpers why should it change now.

Clashes more than out HOME jumper. What does our clash jumper have to do with it ???

If Essendon's clash jumper clashes more with Melbourne's home jumper because it has more red in it, won't Melbourne's clash jumper clash more with Essendon's home jumper for the same reason?

What will you wear when Essendon is the HOME team? Yep that red thing!

So you should change your red clash jumper too, because it clashes more with Essendon's normal jumper! :D

How when the Essendon HOME jumper is predominantly black ??

When Essendon are the home team Melbourne will wear their red jumper and Essendon will wear their black jumper.

How hard is that to understand ?????????

And we'll wear a black jumper with a red sash.

when it is your home game go right ahead. no problem with that.

but when it is a Melbourne home game the alternate strip you have put up clashes more with our home jumper than your home jumper does so what will you wear then when you are the away team given that Melbourne will not accept your bribe to wear their away strip ???

How long will it stay at $110 k, if teams don't comply? Whilst Melbourne may or may not need the money. Saints and Richmond might not like the arrogance of essendon telling them what to do.

I just told you that, at the moment we'll wear a black jumper with a red sash.

Is it that hard to follow?

There is no set fine in place for teams not wearing correct uniform.
What is in place is a fine of $5000 per player not wearing uniform.

From memory, Mark Alvey got fined $5000 while at the Dogs because he cut the sleeves of his jumper and made it 3/4's. Andrew Welsh also got fined for cutting his socks.

22 players out of uniform, then you have a $110,000 fine.

St Kilda might not like it, we don't care.
Richmond are fighting with Essendon.

So what you are saying is the fine could be alot more than $110K if essendon doesn't follow an afl directive. In the context of the Saints why should we bend for you

Only if they introduce another rule. At the moment. as far as I know there is no set fine for a team as a whole, only for individual players.

Predicting what the AFL may do when it comes to penalties is a futile exercise.

I really couldn't care less what StKilda do.

Essendon have already approached Melbourne and StKilda with a view to running the games as charity raising opportunities.
Melbourne game, Essendon wear Broadbridge Foundation patches and the sale of the jumpers on EBay goes to the Foundation.
Same with StKilda for the Trevor Barker Foundation.

Would Paul Gardiner seriously knock back the chance to make money for the Broadbridge Foundation, from the supporters of the club he played his last game against? (Given Essendon supporters will be the ones buying the jumpers on EBay)
Same with StKilda. Butterss won't knock that back.
Not only is the PR worth heaps, the actual money will be no small change either.
And the fans are appeased because it's for a good cause.

What sort of bloke are you if you don't want the Broadbridge Foundation remembered in perpetuity? And being paid for by Essendon supporters.

Longy413 said:

And vice versa, but isn't it arrogant to suggest St Kilda will bend to Essendon on Essendons say so? Regarding Richmond and Essendon won't one have to bend or the afl will fine them?

do you think Broadbridge would be happy by the way the money would be raised? By selling the Melbourne jumper?

Dont fall for those dirty tricks Dee's.
Essendon will try all scumbag tricks like this , preying on charity for their own agenda.

that is not the clash jumper you have put up though. it is a predomimantly red jumper that clashes more with our home jumper than your current home jumper.
