Come on mate, down grading a number wouldn't be nearly as disappointing as being downgraded off the senior list.

Players should be proud to put the jumper on regardless of numbers and I'd expect Mitchell wouldn't be bothered in the slightest- he will work hard in number 2 or number 55 as it simply doesn't matter

More disrespectful than downgrading them to the rookie list? We know rookie players don't get high numbers, I would be surprised if he 'voluntarily' changed numbers.
I'm a tad old fashioned but I always equate the #2 with the 1st rover in the side (apologies Wakes). Remember those days when it was Ruckman, ruck rover, rover and centreman!

edit: Give Sammy the #2.
I agree that "low" numbers should be given to players in the best 22. That's why you shouldn't give those numbers to young players until they are proven. Giving #2 to Kane was probably a mistake. I wouldn't give this number to Frodo for this same reason. But now it's too late. I also agree that taking that number away from him without a really good reason would be a bad reflexion on club culture.

It's pretty rare for a player to move to a higher number at the same club. The only one I can think of right now is Michael Wilson, and that was off his own bat.

A forced move would be pretty disrespectful to Kane, especially since it would make no difference to anyone besides a few footy fanbois with OCD tendencies (I'm probably a 3-game member of this obscure sub-culture and even I think it's disrespectful!).

Don't know if I've been living under a rock for a couple of years but 10 has been available since Boak took number 1 when he became captain.

Any reason 10 hasn't been available?

because of the palaver when Tredrea relinquished the captaincy and wanted his old number back and Danyle Pearce wanted to keep it. Club policy is to put aside the captain's old number when he takes on number 1.

I believe the captain's original number is reserved for when/if they stop being captain. Wasn't there an issue with Tredrea and Pearce at some stage. Pearce had to go from 16 to 6 to give Tredders 16 back. I guess we are trying to avoid that happening again by keeping 10 aside.
