Jumper numbers in 2011

would of liked to see rounds wear the #9
I think the fact that the 9 is "open" shows that the decision on the higher jumper numbers was made some time ago, and that the likes of Rounds, Thomas etc already knew what number they were going to wear in 2011 before Jack even left.

It just means there's the chance for someone to make that number their own in 2012 and onwards.:thumbsu:

I like your reasoning...it sounds better than 'retiring' #9 an accolade only given to greats

Obviously the club is honouring great servants in Pebs and Tarks by offering their numbers to two youngsters they seem to rate very highly in Keeffe and Thomas.

All round looks good.

Been awhile since we've had a top quality #9- since BT.

i find it rediculous that they are going to give number 35 each year, whats the point?

It's pretty straight forward I would have thought.

So inspired by Prestigiacomo's integrity, Collingwood yesterday announced it would present his jumper to the club's first-round draft pick each year.

"That player will hold that jumper for 12 months and understand the history of it and the responsibility of teamsmanship and professionalism displayed by Simon," Malthouse said.

I guess Heater will always be #39 and not wear his dad's number. Shame but, as long as he keeps doing feats like the one in the GF replay (< see avatar) I don't give a stuff what number he wears

I must say, I really dislike the whole situation with the 35 jumper.

Simon Prestigiacomo was a great footballer for the club, and Peter Daicos is an all time Collingwood great, not to mention one of the most talented men to ever grace a football field.

I would much rather see a very good player wearing the 35 out on to the MCG each week, then rarely see the jumper because it's been given to a young player that needs to develop in the VFL for the first year of his AFL career.

Agree with this didaka. It's conceivable that we'd rarely see it this way.

Maybe they could tweak their decision process with this...still give it to the first draft pick, but he then keeps it for his whole career.

Then upon his retirement, once again, it goes to the first draft pick.

Which in essence to me means that each year we may only see the 35 maybe a couple of times if were lucky, only to have it passed onto another kid who may not even get a game.

Dont like the idea at all.

Its precisely this reason why i wouldve liked the 35 to go to an existing young player like Brown or Reid or Dawes even, a bloke who can grow into the jumper and put his own legacy into it.

I would be quite happy if Fasolo was given the opportunity to make it his own.
