Interesting blurb here on what could have been for the brisbane lions:

Initially, it was indicated that the ‘new’ team would wear an adaptation of the old Fitzroy pre-season jumper for “away” games, and a modified Brisbane jumper in Fitzroy colours for “home” games. This deal had been struck with representatives of Fitzroy but was scrapped in the interests of having one jumper, only, for the “new” club.

It was discussed originally because the home jumper was originally going to be based on the Bears jumper, but once they realized merging a team isn’t going to work if it’s Bears at home and Lions away they designed the current home jumper and history was born.

It was also discussed whether Fitzroy FFC be redesigned with BFC but it never went any further.

Wasn't the initial idea to have a Fitzroy jumper with a new monogram?

Ultimately it was a pretty good jumper tbh, still is. Probably the best mix you could come up with.

The Deed of Arrangement says exactly this, albeit only for 7 years and only for away hames)

Clause 7.2 b) "The playing uniform of the Merged Club will, for a period of 7 years after the Merger Date for away games, comprise the existing Fitzroy playing uniform (or the existing Fitzroy preseason playing uniform) (save that the emblem shall be be BL not FFC) and for all home games and all games after 7 years, will predominately comprise all Fitzroy colours in a design approved by AFL;"

Definition:
"Merged Club" means Brisbane Bears which will conduct the combined Club Operations of Fitzroy and Brisbane Bears following the Merger;

This 2006 Crows replica LS home guernsey has a differently coloured collar, with the bottom part navy instead of gold like the rest of the collar.

For some reason adidas couldn't get the home long sleeve guernseys right, some other ones have a white adidas logo instead of a gold adidas logo.

Some early designs for the Cats most well-known and most-used away jumper were featured in newspaper articles towards the end of 1998. The images show plans to have gradient edges to the hoops, and the logo to be smaller than what was officially used. I'm making an educated guess here, and saying that the Cats move to Fila for 1999 resulted in the minor changes to the design

Some lucky bastard got his hands on this jumper, I wasn't even allowed to take a photo of it.

This was the jumper I was talking about on this board in 2014 when I said the club wanted a Bears clash jumper in 2015 but got denied by the AFL and that they thought names on the back of jumpers was a certainty.

Why was it denied by the AFL?
