I didn't mind this article. Again, he is being upfront and honest and looks like his new approach to coaching is something the players can enjoy playing under.

Also, good to hear that he had a bit of a break to refresh as well. It isn't only the players that can get mentally exhausted - the coach can too!

"Jack's going to try and jump on heads and sometimes it's going to drive me insane, but that's the reason he's made it to AFL footy," Hardwick said.

:D:D:D:D

Of course. But if he can't lead them to the finals this year it's time to go

I'd rather just let him see out the contract to 2018, and then make a decision based on how we've performed in the 2017/2018 period.

For example, if we only just miss the 8 this year, but then went on and made Top 4 next year and made a PF or something, it'd be almost acceptable given that we've essentially had a reset midway through 2016.

If it's looking like an absolute train-wreck of a season again by midway through 2017 though, I agree he should go. But why waste the money on a payout if we don't have to?

Yeah. I'm in a different spot.
It's his team, with his new game plan and a new support structure around him.
And injuries will be a weak excuse too.
Good teams have a belief and an understanding of a game plan that enables them to consistently win in adversity. We don't.
I don't think there would be an AFL coach in modern times that has had this long a tenure and achieved so little.
Last chance saloon Dimma. Please prove me wrong, win some finals and make me start a mea culpa thread at the end of the year.

He hasn't worked anything out. He's been told by Balme and Caracella and has been made a puppet on a string. So he comes back from a non Aussie rule country and suddenly he's devised a new game plan?
The guy is clueless as Flossy has been finally moved to the guts after all those years in the BL and he still thinks BEllis is a defender.
DH is a clown, not a coach and the sooner people realize the better it will be for the club.

The evidence of this is

He is the only coach in VFL/AFL history to have coached more than 150 games without a finals win, and the only Richmond coach since Tom Hafey – who went on to coach four premierships – to reach 100 games without a finals win.

Read this and went 'Hmm, it took a lot for you to realize that they aren't robots.'

Good on him for what he said. But, I took out of it that only after the train wreck of 2016 did he work out that Jack is a great FF, that players make the AFL for what they are good at and when put the chains on you get both good and bad with that. If he really has taken this on board, deeply on board into his subconscious, then FANTASTIC!!

But, it is difficult for people to learn a different way of managing things. He's learnt an over controlled and over complicated way of doing things. Hope he can prove me silly and show what great coach he is.

Anyway, fantastic signs for 2017. If the players take it on we will be so much better.

I think it was a good idea actually.
Going to different environments, hearing from different people increases the likelihood of an insightful rational review.

I'm all for change Rumballs (it's badly needed), but I find it a little ironic that he had to travel over to Harvard to figure out that the game plan needs to be simplified.

However if we start playing attacking football and winning games then all hail Harvard.
