Strategy Just play: Hardwick's simple plan to unleash Tigers

He's got to try to lead by example & hold his nerve so the boys persist & don't go into their shells, don't you think???
he comes across as a protective person when it comes to his players which is what will make that hard.

I understand why he is like that and its a great thing for him as a person but as a coach he needs to switch it off when he's in the box and when he's in gameday meetings

Why aren't you the coach with that brilliant insight and reasoning?
because I am only a fan who has my own opinion.

Edit - who funnily enough is poster on a Tigers Fan Forum board, where fans post their own opinions.

I am wondering how everyone on this forum assesses whether a Senior Coach is good, bad etc. Additionally, based on whatever criteria you employ what do you make of Damien as a Senior Coach?
I ask because I feel that with the knowledge I have I can't make a good judgment on his coaching ability. I can't really base my opinion on his wins and losses as that can come down to other factors like list management and tactics. And I can't really assess him on tactics because I don't know if his tactics are the problem or the list is or the assistant coaches aren't properly training the tactics etc.
Does anyone have some ideas on how one on the outside such as fans can assess the performance of a Senior AFL Coach?

I have strongly believed as well that the Carlton EF was the big turning point. From 2011 - 2013 we were playing that fast, free flowing, unpredictable footy that the bulldogs won a flag with. It's a brand that smashed Hawthorn and Sydney (yet inconsistent and lost against cellar dwellers). We just didn't have the talent and the KPP to pull it off at the time and the list was very young still.

Combine the Carlton scare with compromised drafts/moneyball and the success (at that time) of Freo/Lyon's defensive rigid game style... it's not hard to see why they chose the path they did.

Very glad to see we are going the other way again (though remains to be seen). I think I'm becoming optimistic... I think I'm becoming #ECI.
Damn you RFC! Here's to another roller coaster year again

IN - 2013 BEllis
OUT - 2016 BEliis

BEllis has definitely gone backwards since 2013/14. He's always been an outside player but when he first started playing he was pretty decent by foot and would run and carry. Now his kicking is unreliable, he's become even more outside (to the point he looks scared at times) and he runs sideways.
Maybe the old game plan has had a bit to do with it, but as MT2006 mentioned he'd better pull up his socks soon, there's a queue up of quick young players lining up to play that role

I would play Ellis on the wing. I don't think he's accountable enough in defence.

It's good that hardwick acknowledged last year's game plan was utter shite but it should have been obvious from half way through the season at least!

Anyway, I'm hoping they also realised that a dual Coleman can actually be used to kick goals.

He's a genius our DH

True. However, we'd all be disappointed to hear nothing from the Senior Coach. It's a difficult situation Damien is in really.
To be honest, after years of promises and letdowns, I'd much prefer to see performances than hear anymore spin about what we're going to do. To quote Nike: JUST DO IT

Smacks a bit like the Morro in the forward line and Rance in the centre experiments doesn't it!
Funnily enough I though the Rance move to the center an interesting move...worth exploring...
Never know if it was worth perservering with as Dimma as per usual...lost his nerve with the initial hic cups...and failed to follow through...
What might have been...

Think something had to be done with Cloke kicked 3 goals on Elton in 1st qtr and we were down..
Can't blame the man for not sticking with it, when rance went back we ended up winning the game.
Ps Cloke didn't kick a goal after 1sr qtr once rance was on him.

All hail rance

He hasn't worked anything out. He's been told by Balme and Caracella and has been made a puppet on a string. So he comes back from a non Aussie rule country and suddenly he's devised a new game plan?
The guy is clueless as Flossy has been finally moved to the guts after all those years in the BL and he still thinks BEllis is a defender.
DH is a clown, not a coach and the sooner people realize the better it will be for the club.

The evidence of this is

He is the only coach in VFL/AFL history to have coached more than 150 games without a finals win, and the only Richmond coach since Tom Hafey – who went on to coach four premierships – to reach 100 games without a finals win.
Well I wont be dissapointed if he went on to emulate the achievements of the other Richmond coach to go 100 games without a finals win, if he does that I won't give a rats arse if he is puppet on a string or not, probably better that way.

No doubt Balmey has taken control though, kept Dimma out of the news early on and Im sure someone is ensuring he says the right things now that he has to front the media.

Agree he's under the thumb and on notice.

Well that was only one game...never tried again...
And what a game to try it in...with one of the game's top chf's playing with confidence...
Still it was an audacious move!
