I have a rule never to argue with anyone whose name I can't spell, so I wouldn't be arguing with them at all.

I am against Fyfe being on a Panel, but certainly not against player orientated Panelists, which we have. Again, I think someone like our High Performance rowing champion or Ric Chalsworth or Malthouse is conspicuously absent from our current line up (I am not especially advocating any of them, but they bring coaching expertise).

Please note I wasn't arguing Fyfe should be on either - just pointing out different schools of thought. I get what you are saying, I acknowledge there are some arguments for a coaching advisor.

It probably is only a slither of the whole story, but wasn't Dunstall instrumental in pushing Clarkson's case to be Hawkforn coach? He's had zero coaching experience of any substance as far as I can tell. I think having someone with coaching experience on the panel wouldn't necessarily hurt, but I reckon it's not going to be a do or die thing.

Went to a GRAND final with channel 7, had a few beers with Baz in Melbourne. Definitely an eagles supporter. CEO of 7 west the same. Good guy but staunch eagle.
Yep. About 5 years back I worked with a close friend of Baz ... I’m 99.9% sure Baz was an Eagles supporter. I witnessed far too many (private) conversations between them to think anything different. I will say Baz was guarded with what he said, while his mate was in full on Freo hate mode, but it was still clearly obvious they shared similar opinions and beliefs.

My concern is about the footballing IQ, and especially coaching. That area of responsibility seems to sit with Mann and MacPharlin, and I am struggling with their lack of coaching experience.

Pretty sure that this information regarding football IQ will be available from their level 4 coaching exams

A good recruitment consultant doesn’t need to have worked in the industry. They do need to have clear expectations of what the employer is looking for which Dale, Belly and the players have pretty consistently articulated

Alistair Clarkson, asked about the Eagles "web" early on said Hawthorn had tried it and discarded it as flawed.

So if the best coach of the modern era had sat on the Eagles selection panel Simpson probably doesn't get the job.

A coach may not make an ideal panellist.

I see 7 news sport was reporting Colin Young grandstanding that Freo better hurry up if they want Longmuir as other clubs may need a new head coach soon.

Bloody hell we are not buying a used
car with ‘another buyer on the way’.
I’d purposely go slower with his clients if he said that to me.

Then who chooses them? What they just walk up and do a review..... please

Agreed but on the other hand why call it independent? Independent of what? I never got that point - just call it a panel (rather than just someone doing a "Captain's pick") to get a range of opinions. It's certainly not independent of the people who are already in control of the decision.

I think the other point that Gav was making was why is Bell sitting on it if it is supposed to be a fresh pair of eyes?

We have in the past had some good assistant coaches, and have gone on to find employment at AFL
Level at other clubs, head coach.
With Scott, Harvey we fast tracked a very young list, I would love the club to bring in as many experienced
People as possible.
A dynamic duo would be my choice, JLo with Woosha, Pyke, or even left field Voss, etc.

Charlesworth has been there before, don't think it worked that well.
Fyfe should have a say, as the players have to play under the coach, in fact the Leadership group should be consulted imo

They would suggest Ross Lyon as a coach with measured to keep them on the field longer.

Unless we think Longmuir is going to get another job offer as a Senior Coach surely any offer we may eventually make him will far outweigh any senior Asst role he may either have or be offered. Young is just a first class tool.

I dunno, I feel like when businessmen like Alcock use the word "independent" in this sense, it clearly means "not currently involved with Club operations". As an interesting side note, Adelaide haven't even used the word "independent" in their public releases. They've only used the word "external", like you've said.
What's the relationshion between the external advisors to Adelaide?

7West continue to press the agenda for their mate.

Yes, the Colin Young interference worries me ...it could get up the nose of the Board, who take a set against a Young candidate and/or take their time which sees JLo go elsewhere.

I really want Longmuir. We've experienced the plus and perhaps latterly the minus, of mature experience. Now let's get growing experience. I'm fearful the Board might mess around and stuff up a golden opportunity.

Peter sumich was an assistant from 2011 until the end of 2016 season. What happened during his stint in that time period ?and what happened after his departure? We went to vomit again lol. I’m not saying pick sumich but i would like to
see more into why he departed. Was it Ross and Rosich that lost the respect of sumich ? From an outsider perspective we will never know. If he is indeed picked as our coach I think we will know.

Why don't we just sign every candidate bring thrown out and have quadruple senior coaches? LongSuRatVoss anyone?
