Is trade period over is it?

Feels like some on here would prefer a multitudes of trades so the period is entertaining rather than making only good deals - or none at all if required.
Oh but... we have to look as good as the Pear..... ;)

Right now he's at an overall score of -1.

-1 for announcing Bryce Gibbs' intentions in 2016 then failing to get the job done.
-1 for trading Lyons for a third round pick
+1 for getting a good deal for Lever.

Overall Score: -1

I can't say I'm over the moon so far. Especially given Melbourne seem to be getting bent over by everybody at the moment...

Who was responsible for the Gibbs debacle last season? If him, he's probably still only a bare pass mark so far.
No Gibbs debacle last year. He didn't pay overs. Nil all draw

I'm not saying we should have kept him. We should have traded him for a fair price

Agree we got reamed - but from what I heard he and Henderson were basically psuhed out for salary cap. We were never going to pay Lyons what he was worth or deserved so we couldnt hold him - everyone knew he would leave via draft so we got nothing back

Who we drafted is irrelevant. We accepted a pathetic deal for someone who is now im Gold Coast's top players

The other side is we accepted an average deal for someone with limited scope of being a long term player in our side.

Considering how little we offered to him, he was depth here.

There was no gibbs debacle last year. Carlton did not want to trade a contracted player. Cut and dry.

We are in a unique position. We are in a premiership window and our cap has obviously been tight due to overpaying older underperforming contracted players and not being ruthless enough by moving these players out while they still have currency. Therefore getting players in is tough when our salary cap is tight and potential trades see us as being conservative in regards to match committee selection policy. Our biggest problem which has caused our issues is not playing younger players when we had chances too. Pyke improved in this area this year but he still has a way to go. The fact we played andy otten in the gf when he was clearly not the right choice shows that we have a way to go to becoming a ruthless club. Reid has drammatically improved this year but i would like to see us pinpoint particular players to fill roles that other clubs seems to find with regularity. We have many selling points as a club. I just hope these are being sold to potential trades in the most effective manner. We also seem to have a confrontational relationship with a lot of player managers which i know a lot of clubs do. Just wonder if some of these managers steer their client away from us out of spite or telling their client we are tight. As we all know, player managers are cockroaches who only care about their commission. Colin Young is a prime example.

Is this his 2nd year in charge of trade week? He wasn't involved with Dangerfield trade?

Below average last year.

He has done very well with Lever. Needs to move on Cameron with a par being pick 18. That would be a bit better than average result overall.

If he can bring in Gibbs and keep Pick 10 and our future 1st Rounders next year he has done a brilliant job this year.

If SOS is demanding 2 firsts then I don't see that he has any other choice other than to walk away. So he gets a big tick for doing that this year and last. He gets a big tick for the Lever trade. The Lyons situation I think was out of his hands to an extent. Our coaches rated Lyons as a fringe mid just outside of our best 22. His contract offer demonstrated that, so we were never getting anything but unders in that trade, especially considering Gold Coast's certainty to be able to get him for even less.

I think too much is made of the one position though. He's the pointy end of a list management committee which includes the coach. Based on group discussions he then puts the numbers in a spreadsheet to manage salary cap going forward. Any approaches he makes to player managers would be based on what is agreed in the list management meetings. Sure, he keeps his ear to the ground as to who might be available, but these names would just be filtered through the process.

It sounds as if the list committee has told Red to bring in a best 22 player, that we don't just want a handful of draft picks.

This is purely speculation but maybe the deal with Carlton is 16 plus 12 (if we can get it.)

If not....16 plus 10, with something coming back to us.

We'd prefer the first option so we can keep 10, thus our hard line approach with CC.

Any deal involving 2 picks out of 10, 12 or 16 is a joke! Gibbs is worth 16, he's contracted so then we need to pay overs. Pick 12 is more than enough (if we can get it out of Brisbane for Cameron). Also any deal that involves any first round pick next year should be seen as ridiculous also. It's as simple as that. I'm more than happy to let any deal go from now until the send of the trade period if we're not coming out the better side. No point doing a deal for the sake of it. Gibbs would be a luxury, he's not a necessity.

Anyone saying last years gibbs debacle was anything but a huge **** up must have rocks in their head

This year, if he can turn Lever & Cameron into 3 mid first round picks he’s done well on the sell side

The buying, the acquiring and targeting of players still looks like work is needed
