Who is ignoring the election result?
Why does the election result necessarily mean that democracy is not at stake (to some extent at least), given Trump's past actions and rhetoric?

My point was that 2024 was the US rebelling against a party and an ideology that thinks they are better than everyone else. An elitist party that looks down on the working class. The working class used to be the left's base but they have been pushed aside. You win elections by courting voters not by alienating them and telling them they are not worthy of your vote. The left is now run by people who think they are morally superior and everyone who doesn't agree with them are dumb, uneducated or garbage. This is the SRP in a nutshell and Chief and yourself a part of this ideology. The same will happen in Australia if the same attitude towards voters is replicated.

All parties think they are better than everyone else- that’s the definition of wanting to be in power for crying out loud. The dems ‘dissed the working class’ has been exaggerated (made into an issue by the loud republicans but not actually based entirely on fact) and just because Donnie acknowledged the grievances of some groups in America and kowtowed to the chip on the shoulder brigade doesn’t mean he’s going to actually do anything about it. Just silly to pretend that there wasn’t plenty of ignorance in the voting- eg. anyone who voted for trump is either ignorant about climate action, or rather careless.( and that’s being generous)

Replace “dissed the working class” with “not doing enough to tangibly help the working class”.
Of course their policies are better for the working class but they are still fiddling around the margins really and have no narrative/message.
The vast majority of the electorate don’t think about politician anywhere near the depth that anyone who posts here does.
I mean you have heaps of people who voted Trump but AOC down ballot.
I can’t think of a single person on this forum who has ever posted here who would do that, but a lot of people like to think of themselves as non partisan voters and they don’t pay attention to politics much at all as it just seems like angry noise coming from all angles.
It’s not Harris’s fault alone, I think anyone would be stupid to claim that.
The whole party setup which led to the situation where sue basically had to be annointed was the issue. Plus the donor class and the party establishment who’d prefer a Trump win over anything actually progressive to help the working class, as that would involve hurting their rich donors.
That’s what the democracy stuff while I think a totally real thing to be worried about, was merely a campaign issue for the democrats at large as they didnt really give a shit about winning.
Sure they haven’t done enough for the working class but Biden actually implemented several pretty good policies to help there. All of which trump will most likely undo. And yes re AOC.
Certainly the dems have very foolishly, and to their cost, forsaken the rural community.
