Look, good luck to him and all of that but in reality Johnson is just one of about a dozen list clogging hacks that Richmond need to put out to pasture. Kudos to him for jumping before being pushed but he is over thirty anyway and a pretty ordinary footballer these days.

The burning question for me is why on earth would Richmond employ him in a development capacity? At best, he was just an honest goer and I am not really sure what he can do to help the development of the kids on the list in a coaching capacity above what he has already contributed on the park.

I never understand the idea that playing ability equates to coaching ability. Alistair Clarkson was an average footballer at best, but he's a premiership coach. How would you have any idea about the potential coaching ability of Johnson?

First move by Rawlings maybe?

Good and at times very good player throughout the early noughties. Came into the Crows at the right time for some success and was one of their real reliable and at times match winning players from 00-02.

Won a BnF with Richmond and was captain, but not sure if the move ended up being best for his career or reputation.

Yep. The list of players who were absolute stars as players, then failures as coaches is a long one. In fact, it might be a detriment, as a player who was a battler in their AFL career could probably understand the issues that the fringe players on the list go through, better than a bloke with five best and fairests.

I think people are forgetting what a good player Kane Johnson was. Saying he only had a "decent career" makes him sound like he was Luke O'Sullivan or something. Two premierships, 200 games, b&f and an extended stint as a club captain...I mean he's not heading to the Hall of Fame or anything, but he was a very good player in the AFL for nearly a decade. There are two clubs that would hold him in very high regard.

He is part of the fabric of mediocrity at Richmond. As is Rawlings. As is King. As is Campbell.

The Richmond Football Club will continue to be the laughing stock of AFL football until all of these hacks are cleaned out. This club needs to start all over again from the football department down. Kane Johnson may or may not be a decent coach but that really is not the point. The point is that the Tigers need to clear out anybody and anything that is connected to the old coaching regime before they will make any significant ground on the rest of the competition. Johnson, as a former captain is the last person that they should be employing in their football department.

Kane Johnson was one of my favourite players when he was at Adelaide. Seeing the type of player he developed into at Richmond was cringeworthy.

Went from A Grader to handy. He became softer. A receiver. Went missing when the heat was on or his team really needed him. Got his possessions behind centre. All the qualities he showed in spades at Adelaide disappeared completely when he moved to Richmond.

Why?

Is this what Richmond does to footballers? In that case Matthew Richardson is the single greatest athlete in the history of the world in any sport.

Probably a bit unfair. He may be very good with the kids.

Good luck to the bloke. Played fairly, multiple premierships and seems like a good guy.

Now going to scrub myself clean for agreeing with a Hawks supporter.
