Re: Kane Lucas: number yet to be allocated

12. Kane Lucas
What type of player are you?

Versatile player who can play all ends of the ground. Hard-working and natural ability to accumulate possessions and read the play.

Which AFL player do you feel you resemble, and why?

Scott Pendlebury - similar game style - creative work around stoppages, ability to read the play and find the ball.

What are your strengths as a footballer?

Ability to read the play. Ability to accumulate uncontested and contested possessions. Speed and endurance.

“We picked Kane for his ball-reading ability in the middle, reading of the play and good use of the ball,” Hughes said.

“He’s smart in traffic and his athletic abilities give him the ability to play midfield rotation. He’s quick, with good agility, good spring, and is just an all-round good package for us.”

Lucas impressed many scouts with his results in Wednesday morning's agility test but said that in his time at the AIS-AFL Academy it was his weakest area.

"My running ability is my strength – endurance and speed. I think I'm a natural ball-winner so moving forward this year has put a bit of versatility in my game so it has been a good learning curve."

Re: Kane Lucas

I have footage of his WAFL round 23 game (non ABC2 game) against Peel where he had 27 disposals, 11 marks and kicked 3 goals....I will chop it up into a highlight reel when I find the time.

Re: Kane Lucas: number yet to be allocated

Many had this guy tipped to be in the top 10 (myself had him tipped to go to West Coast with pick 7).;)
With his height, endurance and ability to play forward, could easily play most of his debut year as a roaming HFFer, a position we are looking to fill in our side.:thumbsu:
Looks a real steal for us here.

Re: Kane Lucas: number yet to be allocated

Kane Lucas: number yet to be allocated

Lucas issues come and get me plea to Eagles; November 25, 2009
"But I'm quite open-minded about the fact that I may have to relocate elsewhere.

"Obviously it will be hard in the way I will miss family and friends and being out of my comfort zone. But other than that I think it will be all pretty exciting.

"In terms of interstate teams I lean towards Essendon (pick 10) and Carlton (pick 12) because I enjoy their exciting style of play and living in the heart of football would be great."

"Coming from the AIS/AFL Academy background I was a bit more knowledgeable about what to expect and had a great time meeting recruiters from clubs and enjoyed the interviews.

"My work ethic is quite good by nature I think. I’m a very competitive person so I usually try to do as much as I can to be the best I can."

I wonder if Kane being rapt to get to Carlton had anything to do with the fact he slid past training at Casey Fields?

Blues continue to expand midfield

Blues continue to expand midfield
"You can't have enough good midfielders," recruiting manager Wayne Hughes said.

"We're building a pile of them and we need them. Sure, we need people to kick goals as well and Lachie Henderson coming to the club really helps us in that regard, so it's just the way it turned out.

"If I was trying to compare him (Lucas) to someone, I reckon it would be Jimmy Bartel. They are very similar at the same age."
"I knew it was a possibility, but I'm really happy to be here and to be moving to the home of football," Lucas said. "You watch the games on TV from WA and they're playing at the MCG and Etihad Stadium and stuff like that. It's the home of footy and I'm really excited."

Re: Kane Lucas: number yet to be allocated

I am impressed, we are building a strong mid field and most of our young guys come across as very mature, Kane could be in the leadership group in a few years. :thumbsu:

vandelay's profile of Kane Lucas

2. Kane Lucas (26-6-91 / 188cm / 79kg / East Fremantle, WA)
Lucas is the ultimate in class. He’s a very smooth mover, who delivers the ball with absolute precision and runs and runs and runs. He didn’t prove himself to be a big feeder of the ball in the Champs, but that may have had something to do with his light frame, and it’ll be great watching him with more responsibility this year. However, even if his inside game doesn’t come on much, I can’t see him slipping too far down the order. After all, clubs are always after tall, quick, good users of the ball. My main impression of Kane is that he’s a player you always notice, and that’s why he comes into the year rated so highly. He was unlucky to miss out on All-Australian selection last year.
Talia sucks arse.

Re: 24. Kane Lucas

Would I be right in saying that during 2008 in particularly the national championships Lucas was seen to be a near certain top five selection for this year?

That's what I vaguely remember, however I haven't heard anything like it even after the many reports and write-ups.

Yeah, pretty much Blue Bleeding, if you go back to all the phantom drafts that were done during the season he was considered a lock to go top 5. We got very lucky with this one.

Re: Kane Lucas: number yet to be allocated

wablues are proud to announce they will be Kane's sponsor for 2010 and beyond. We hope all the wablues get behind him as he strives to become a key member of the team.

Re: 24. Kane Lucas

Watching him at training on Saturday morning, he completed the entire session, and looked as if he'd already been at the club for a year or two. The only giveaway is how slight he is compared to the other boys. Going to be a real pleasure watching him play next year.

Re: 24. Kane Lucas

Certainly his fitness levels, athleticism and enthusiasm will never be in question....just reckon he's the tyype of footballer who lives and breathes it, few doubts he'll get the best out of his talents in my book.
