Ponting said today he will defend Katich at the selection table and he wont let him be dropped

********monds will probably replace Watson, selectors are such morons. Unfortunately for ********monds he wont get to face a bowler like Cullen in the Test

Unfortunately he will not get to face a bowler like Ash Giles. Cullen is TWICE the spinner that he is.

Give him a break, he's from NSW.
He's not actually, and unless he gets runs aplenty very soon he can kiss his Test career goodbye.

As much as I like him as a player he must perform or get "punter-ed"

They need someone who is in form with the bat and can bowl....... the choice will come down to that person or MacGill for 12th man.

Symonds will be given another chance at Test level to deliver like he has done at ODI level.

Hodge is too old, cant bowl and is not in form with the bat...... he has been scratching around like an old hen instead of seizing the opportunity to blast some big scores.
Don't let bias get in the way of who should be selected. Hodge and Symonds are both 30 years of age, Symonds averages 38 at Pura Cup level, Hodge averages around 45. Hodge just came off a 70 in Tassie, I'd hardly call that 'scratching around'...what has he done wrong with that score, not to mention the years of better performance at FC level than Symonds

And Hodge's bowling is on a par with Symonds in Tests. Symonds averages 85 with the Test ball, hes a champion in ODI's but let's leave it at that.

But then again, if you wanted an under-performing Queensland all-rounder swapped with another one (ones that can't perform in Tests), then by all means, bring in Symonds.

Look Symonds has more potential than Hodge and every other wannabe in Australia....... just about everyone, including the selectors, knows that.

They may give him another chance at Test level to show if he has the maturity(given his previous indiscretions) to hold down a permanent position as an allrounder. If he does not shape up then his papers should be marked "NEVER TO PLAY TEST CRICKET AGAIN"

Looks like you win: http://content-aus.cricinfo.com/ausvwi/content/story/224568.html

Brad Hodge for sure!! What more can the man do? Katich should be givin one more chance. Clarke would also have to pull his finger out and start performing although there for the long haul. I think Bracken should go get a haircut and McGill must be getting jack of it all.....

Border aint a selector anymore, and it looks like he is the one who was holding Hodgey back
Don't believe me, Ponting just came out and said he's looking at White and Symonds. So Hodge will not play, Symonds is in like I told you.

He was asked about replacing Watson with another all rounder, he said they were the only options, he is 1 person in a 5 man selection group. Funnily enough I am yet to see any reporter ask the cricketers about replacing Watson with a batsman

Being a home Test Ponting is not part of the selection panel so it does not really matter what he says. The Captain only has a say when the team is on tour.

Well he keeps saying he will push for the batsman in the team to stay the same and Symonds to replace Watson, so he geels he has some pull

is it just me but isnt tassie a flat track, that dosn't give much for the spinners??? so why would we play 2 spinners if it was true???

its hodges time.
Symonds will probably bowl medium pace then if it means he'll get in the team. But yeah, if they are picking an all-rounder, don't know why they'd go with Symonds, as his bowling will most likely be under-used. Just use Clarke as the backup bowler. But if you're picking Symonds based on his batting, well an average of 38 in the Pura Cup is hardly enough evidence to bring him in the side, based on one good innings. Will be baffling if Hodge doesn't get a go.

The only way to find out if Hodge can cut it at test level is to give him a go , and the West Indies is probably an ideal side to do that against .
Symonds is a great 1 day player , but test cricket is completely different . The selectors already know what he is capable of at the top level .

As i have said before i think they will go with Symonds but now would be ideal to give a specialist bat a chance in a side that has a brittle underperforming middle order at the moment

suprise suprise, s waugh says stick with crapitch. just another example of him sticking up for his nsw mates
AB, SW........ what would these blokes know about Aussie cricket????????

The selectors should all take pity on Victoria and pick Hodge......... sort of like an encouragement award :p

If they dont do it now then dont panic as Hodgey will be a good thing to carry the drinks at the Boxing Day Test. Especially if he can post another innings over 50 before then.
