Is he a genuine ground level player? Because Elliott and Fasolo are basically midget full forwards, they aren't really crumbling forwards. We have had one since Leon, Krak and Didak left.
He's excellent both in the air and on the ground. Definitely knows how to crumb, also can fly with the best of them. Obviously would have to see how that translates to senior footy.

In fairness to Elliott, he stays down a lot more these days. That side of his game has improved a lot.

I think he should focus on getting as light as possible in the off-season.

Currently listed at 182cm and 89kg. Really should be aiming to get down to like 77kg at some point, and then build himself back up to a strong, sturdy 82-83kg. That might sound extreme to some, but he'll be better for it in the long run IMO.

Will probably take a few years to really transform his body type and shape, but that should be the aim.

He has that chunky build much like a pacific islander Damon, heavy bones and deep musculature, only so much may be possible.

Fair call, but I think just that conceeding that "it's just his build" with these types of guys can often be the problem. I don't think anyone can argue that he's not carrying extra unnecessary size.

I guess whatever weight he's in the best shape in is best for him, but I think we should at least do our best (will take him buying in wholeheartedly as well) to slim him down as much as we can.

No argument Damon, I'm just trying to temper expectations. With that build he is never going to be 'athletic' in the caucasian/negroid style. As you say though no excuse to lower standards, so long as he is meeting expectations all will be well.

I'm excited by Kirby's natural ability but how can he still have a gut in August when he stated pre season in November?
He obviously has so much ability that he can get away with it in the 2's but I wonder if the club is protecting him from being exposed at senior level.

So are we in agreement that he's still carrying a few? I've never seen him live, so I'm cautious about commenting from vision / photos only... but he looks like he's got a gut...

He can clearly play... so it will be a question about his desire to shed the kilos over summer I'm guessing?

No way Bucks (or any senior coach tbf) will play him if he's not fit... He'll blow up and cost the team late in games...

It's not a gut, it's his petrol tank.

He's not with gut.

Below is with gut

He was compared to Pickett when he was drafted. If he ends up being his clone then I'll be rapt!
Loved that video. Pickett was as brutal as they come, definitely wouldn't survive in the modern day. I think Kirbs plays a hell of a lot like him, hopefully we get to see him produce some magic like this very soon :)

If Eddie forgets about the footy tax and spends some money on getting Kayle fit for round 1 and adjusted to Melb life, we might be onto something very special

You don't see many blokes bouncing the footy at full pace with either hand. Pickett was a freak.

Yeah not many could do it....Swanny, Graham Wright, Daicos, Paul Williams, Greening, Baldock, Cyril, Skilton....I must have been watching footy too long

You mentioned Daicos.

Can't help myself.

But his skill on both sides, he kicked goals at ease from either left or right.

For my thinking, Daicos is the greatest ever player for kicking "miracle goals" in the history of the game. Nobody is close.

He needs a new coach.
One who understands that the last three games of a season, when finals are gone, allows the team to play "the kids".
Instead, we play.......Blair!
Any coach worth their salt will play players when they can have some level of input.

Maybe Kirby would be left out by all 18 coaches (sorry 17, Eade got the busted chop) because he would look like he's miles behind in senior footy.

If you really believe Collingwood wouldn't play him if he was even semi ready, sorry you don't get they want to win games more than you do.

I can't wait for Kirby, but even Daicos played reserves until he was ready. And for what it's worth, Daicos reserves games would make Kirby's reserves look like Jack Blair.

Michael Tuck played reserves for quite a while, so did Dipper, because they weren't ready.

I think Rivers might be holding him back been spot on with players his had elevated.

Winning games?
I love to win games.
But just like North, when there is an opportunity to scam the system and improve the chances of picking up a future champ, then I don't understand the imperative to win games.
This is AFL 2017.
I want the kids blooded, and when we have squat to lose then let's do it.
We may even win and forgo the advantage of lower ladder position.
And I've no issue with that.
But time to lever out those who are not our future and blood those who are.
