daz n (if you want me to call it 'da zone', buy a vowel) deal to buy foxtel, including stream motion and most importantly its tech, likely to be announced sooner rather than later from all reports
NFL fans have warned that this is gonna be a shit show.

They can't run a platform, we are in trouble.

Thats only the start too, eventually its gonna be split on different pay services if Foxtel sells it.

International streaming giant DAZN has acquired Foxtel for $3.4 billion
just reading the article on this, and they put this part right at the very end "DAZN has also recently launched its own betting business and is eyeing a direct betting venture with sports themselves as part of broadcasting deals." Guess we won't be escaping the betting anytime soon.

I too would like to hear how Blavatnik could be any worse for audiences than the Murdochs have been.
Whats likely going to happen is we get a worse service AND they will likely split off the sports into their own services.

Hopefully they don't split the sports during this current broadcast deal but its inevitable now.

Then if it's still not super profitable after that we may see AFL split over multiple services in future broadcast arrangements, fingers crossed that's a long way off (or never)

Looking at their global portfolio, I think it’s probable they sell off the nonsport assets.

I’m sure the Murdochs would have charged more for sport subscriptions if they could have, so I’m guessing the added profitability comes from selling off the non core offerings.

Ditch Hubbl, Foxtel Now and some of the more fringe products. Make Foxtel a leaner operation as a result.

DAZN now have a competitive advantage over any other sport streaming service in Australia, by virtue of the rights deals they’ve taken on, but they’d be pushing shit uphill trying to compete against Netflix, Paramount, Apple, Stan etc in the broader entertainment space.

From my POV they have already split off all the sports that I watched outside of the AFL anyway. Tennis grand slams went, then Bein went which took the tennis tour and football off it completely.

DAZN have also been a disaster for Italian Serie A football.

  • Low resolution broadcast, frame rate problems & service interruptions
  • Poor camerawork and production quality
  • frequent changes to price plans
  • restricting number of devices per subscription

There's an old saying about Pay TV; the only things that make money are sport and pr0n.

No doubt as some have commented, DAZN will divest itself of all non sport related content, as they view themselves as the Netflix of sport. This is a dark day for sports broadcasting in Australia.

Foxtel could never compete with the online streamers for content and frankly the product across all channels has deteriorated over the past 10-15 years significantly.

The AFL should have setup its own broadcast network and own their product, but they prefer sugar hits.

DAZN has completely ruined the NFL watching experience. This is terrible news. We’re also likely to see massive price increases to help cover the costs of their acquisition.
Streaming quality: Frequent buffering, poor resolution, and technical glitches. almost unwatchable. Had to cancel my subscription.

Playback issues: takes you to live streams instead of where you left off

200% + price increases compared to previous version via NFL app

Overall app quality: Non-intuitive app design and navigation difficulties.

Slow or unhelpful responses to complaints and technical issues.

In comparison Kayo will seem like the greatest app ever created. Just awful.
