Is it just me or did they pick all the grounds with the shittest away rooms?! Longwood isn't too bad though to be fair. (If your into living in a shoe box..)

ANNND!! While I'm ranting away.. Any clubs that don't put carpet down in away rooms, should be banned not only hosting finals, but participating in them.
In today's society surely that is a basic human right! That really grinds my gears!

Gig have not had finals for years, due to netball courts, You need to harden up a bit, have you ever tried hosing out mud and crap on carpet? If some away teams were not so much of pigs maybe clubs would have carpet.

Perhaps you can put your spin on all the clubs with shit away rooms, and while your at it, a spin supporting the other clubs rooms that aren't hosting finals this year..

This is pi$$ funny. Im not old by any stretch but it wouldn't have mattered what condition the rooms were in, come finals time my team could get changed in the car park for all I cared just as long as we were participating.

Back when I was a young punk in the HDFL, Mounts' away sheds were just that a shed, White Hills wasn't much better nor were a few others. Jaxbac would remember Thornton's and fair to say Yea's under the old grandstand wouldn't have been too popular either back in the day.

Dids has lost the plot.. Just think the condition of rushys ground at present and probably a lot of others arnt holding up as well as ours.. But to hold a 2nd semi I hope the ground will be in good condition by then..

Not sure if you realise this but the 2nd semi isn't played this week.. plenty of time for the ground to recover before then, and if not, as has been stated, there are grounds on stand by if it doesn't

As a person trying to get Thirds up and running at Murchison in 2015, I am keen to know what the benefits are of the KDFL continuing with Under 18s? In my opinion, dropping the age to Under 17s has quite a few advantages that I feel need to be considered.

*An Under 17 competition means that all players can't legally drink - better chance of influencing a positive culture amongst the group.
*It offers many players coming out of local Under 16 competitions a chance of taking a 'gap' year in the KDFL and then if they feel up to it returning to GVFL as a top age 3rds player.
*Players can feel comfortable competing straight out of Under 14s.
*As Under 18s the only thing we offer different to the GVFL is a much weaker competition.
*Allows younger players to participate - more parents would be keen knowing 18 year olds would not be involved.
* Aligns us with neighbouring district leagues for junior carnivals and interleague games.

I feel the whole Under 18s arrangement is counter-productive. Good 18 year olds will be playing Seniors, while the others can learn the craft in the Reserves which I must say has cleaned up heaps in the last 5 years.
The cut-off date could be flexible, a possible suggestion of being Under 18 on August 31 or KDFL Grand Final day, ensuring that the players remain under-age for the entirety of the season. We could look to manage the over-age permit system if need be to accommodate for players currently in the system.

If I may say ... G’day.
Gotta tick every box you have presented Grass Kat.

In 2005 the AFL decreed that junior footy competitions had a ceiling of Under 16.
I still remember from the sixties that thirds were ended at age 16 and we had to play seconds for Avenel – Longwood. Complete with tough 18 year olds, also callous old (30 year odd) pricks who loved to go the knuckle on the new blokes!! Then said toughen up you weak arse!!

A point I would like to add is for the KDFL to change to under 17. Then all players are also free agents after the last game of the season.
That is, the elite wouldn’t be there anyway ( already in GVFL major league), and a player is free to decide whether to return to his previous Club to play under 18’s in a major league or move on to the two’s of his KDFL side.

That time between +16 to 18 also determines the changes in the body to play footy at a higher level.
Good stuff put forward there Grass Kat...

Clubs make f*ck all out of finals unless they can cater down to a precise number. You lot know how the allocation system works so harden up. Have had last round games at VT when the food has run out at half time when they don't have a final coming up (sorry Jax) so don't be such princesses. If the best of the best counts for the be all and end all then every final should be played at Tally - parking, big ground, good surface (floods excepted), great rooms, new netball courts etc. Is that what you want???

Ground recover? You people need to have a look at the scores over the past few weeks. Jayco13 is correct, there are plenty of weeks to go. Obviously none of you played footy before the cotton wool years.

Oh brother. Let's not debate or banter on big footy, how dare we!
We used to be so good together Woody. Where did we go so wrong??

Haha I did check that out, you're not getting any Kudos back yet either, Don't mess with those grumpy Rochy lads.

Pull your head in and buy a rug for your local club and I'll back you in;)
Too true, but my top four still looks pretty good (for a nuffy). Yes Smooth, we will get a room but it will be at the Overlander and you're paying and Casey is the best bar girl!

Apologies again. Come JC, comment and get me out of this!

One says to the young blokes in the twos for Cripesake? In the mud … flat hands..chest mark. NFI ??
Many footy players have not played in the mud of this beautiful El Nina.. eh?
Best story during the drought years was on the ABC radio. Those dickheads supporting an alternative Aussie.. eh? An old bloke from Queensland rang in to say “.. when the drought broke every kid under 5 went into shock .. we had to throw red dust on them so that they may recover!!!”

I may have had a change of heart in recent weeks regarding our under age footy. Perhaps we don't need to lower it, but could we raise it?

I have no actual percentage to quote, but how many kids never play after 3rds? Could raising the age give an extra year of development to the kids who need it and make us an attractive option for young men who have just finished GVL 3rds and not ready for the big stuff?

We would however lose kids out the bottom end due to not wanting to play against 18 & 19 year olds, but we could accommodate through a KDFL based Under 15 competition comprised of existing teams Tabilk and SGR Giants and some neighbouring alliances of other teams like Lanky/Merrigum and Undera/Ardmona? Obviously I haven't mentioned a few sides, but you get my point. If we could assemble 6 sides to kick off this format we'd see our league solve a few of our junior issues and make it a place for the whole family to participate. We currently cater for U15 netballers.

Hit the nail on the head there GrassKat. Ive been pushing this at our club for awhile and think it would be a great concept for our league to pursue, it works in Melbourne really well so perhaps it could be our solution to some of the problems..

Interesting idea. It works in Melbourne because there a great many more blokes in their early twenties taking the senior/reserve/thirds spot in the adult competitions. Earlier this year Murchison didn't want fourteen year olds playing against eighteen year olds, this would now pit fifteen year olds against nineteen year olds - providing you can get enough upward of fifteen to play. All ideas are worth throwing around but I fear that a deeper issue is at play. In the MFL and PDFL where fourths exist there is already the problem of forfeits and doubling up. Perhaps AFL Victoria could invest in getting into schools (beyond Auskick age) and promoting the game instead of taking kids participation for granted. We recently took eighty kids (9 and 10 age group) to a free soccer day put on by FFV, well organised and great fun. Over to you Gillon.
