Not sure if its Matt Martin he is talking about ,but he was asking about the same amount 4 years ago when Gig spoke to him then he went to Locky. I also no of another player that the Gum have offered dollars to play for them but that will come out in his own time if he playes there or not.

Heard that “district” country footy is disappearing up its own analysis with this discussion of nebutantes coming to footy clubs for “more money”.

For a start, Sportsmad and I are both out of the loop at Longwood.

So how many dollars must the Longwood Redlegs spend to sate this forum’s egotistical and self-centred qualification that you simplistic writers want them to do.
To be higher on the ladder .. to buy a premiership flag .. engraved or not?? (As said a couple of pages back ..How do you ingrave a flag?.. bury it maybe?)

What are the going $rates in the KDFL for someone to be a club’s season President, Secretary, Treasurer, Committee .. let alone a coterie?? The chances of keeping those workers are odds of Five eights of an inch to 15.875 mm!!

Don’t kill the goose that lays the golden eggs ..

already been answered, martin was going to retire but thought he was crazy to pass that up at stanhope, thomson is the other at merrigum.

Think i know where you were coming from in your post j carrot although i had to read it 4 times. crazy money, blokes switching between clubs within own league, whats going on now days?

Whats the latest news and how is training goinig??

Haven't seen Sports Mad on the track yet. Is he for real or just a figment of my imagination. Maybe we should rename him the phantom.

Finally, is all b---s--t about the amounts of money being paid for real? And if so, it's no wonder country footy is almost stuffed. When are people going to realize that money is the root of all evil. I really do worry about the longevity of country footy. If my boys are to play the game we love in the 6-7 years how much is it going to cost, just to buy a bloody membership???

whats the go with some of the ridiculous amounts of money being splashed around at the minute? Merrigum paying a guy who has never played senior footy 300 a game, stanhope luring a guy out of retirement for 600-700 a game and offering another 300 a game who has played little senior football. Am i behind the times, is this the norm or over the top??
The bloke Merrigum is getting may not have played senior footy, but he did win ky reserves best n fairest last year! remember it is kdl, clearly not the best leauge in the district. Any GVL reserves best n fairest would dominate kdl seniors, so they gota b worth something! The skill level in the KDL would b even worse if clubs didnt spend a bit of cash on the more gifted players!

I agree, you have to give these players an incentive to come play. But to pay the kind of figures being mentioned is abit over the top(especially for a 2's player). But at then end of the day each too thier own,im sure they know what there doing , and did there research on who they are recruiting..

Is the depature of Pappin confirmed? anyone from Stanhope care to enlighten us ?

I wouldnt think so.
I also wouldnt say GVFL 2nds players were gifted.
Think you will find he is getting the gift.

Get your hand off it!!

Yes Pappin is signed at Tongala, trained last night.

And the money being mentioned for Martin is way off the mark, and someone mentioned money for Suffolk, might find he is paying his own way until he believes his body can stand up.

Didn't Jarrod Chapman win the GVFL 2's medal, he's been good but wouldn't say he has dominated the comp

i cant believe the handkerchief is taking the best mainland player for 2009 out of the hive i thought your veins ran maroon and gold...even though you switched leagues, because playing for another club in the same league which as you seem to think is the biggest treachory known to man kind................but in saying that pappin stepped it up last season and would be a good recruit in any league

I heard Longwood have a couple of surprise signings to announce. Ex coach rumoured to be training and may make a comeback
Funny you mention the ex coach GG. Was in Longwood the other night and spoke with Andrew. Seems he was keen to play but his knee pulled up sore from training and is likley that he will not play again. Think he is going in for a clean up but I think it may just be an off field role for him this year.

To put side on ground for season ,you wont get much change out of $70.000 to be in with a show

True. I'd imagine the top sides Nagambie and Undera are spending well over 50K, but their players payments aren't talked of on here, Gum and Gig are always debated and probs have very low budgets for players compared to some. This talk of money and running people down because they are paid is poor. Inflation in football is getting crazy but what will you do?? You need to be competetive. Other clubs lure your clubs locals with money and you have to pay to outsource others when they leave, its a shame but thats the cycle. If anyone has an answer to paying players, lets hear that. Oh and Brenton Thompson will be good for Merrigum, the club wanted a ruckman and they dont grow on trees. But the money?? Who makes that crap up??!

Hahahahaha! Roger, I dont think he is talking about Andrew. I have seen this other ex coach running around out there.....looking pretty damn good too!

Dont beleive Hank took the big Smear at all (as some blokes beleive:rolleyes:), he heard he was looking at playing at Locky and simply mentioned Tonny and the rest is History.

If these are the estimated dollars being paid .. and note they would be conservative (i.e publicly understated) .. I suggest the KDFL send players and officials as a delegation to Nuremberg, Germany for an inquest similar to which took place in 1946.

Off course the defence will be, “I was only following orders”!

Has a touch of “myth of suicidal lemmings” about it eh?

Cheers

5 Players on $250 per game - $22500
5 Players on $200 per game - $18000
5 Players on $150 per game - $13500
5 Players on $100 per game - $9000
5 Players on $50 per game - $4500

Total payments: $67500 + Coaches?

P!ss off to an AFL thread were you belong

Your name suits very well

I can assure you Nagambie spent well under the $50K you assume for total player payments in 2009, and 2010 will be no different. The highest paid player at the club last year recieved $300 a game. Nagambie is fortunate that they have almost the entire side with a link to the club, eg: are local or have come through the 3rds. Only a handful of recruits get a bit of pocket money but aren't on big coin.

On the topic of GVL two's B&F winners, I doubt all would dominate in the KDL, however Mick Shiels won a 2's B&F @ Seymour then played at Nagambie & won the McNamara Medal.

Unfortunately yes. Will be a big loss. Bolted in the B&F last year.

On the bright side we now have a spare $1000 a week to splash on players. The down side is we lose $1500 a week in bar sales.

Haha nice forty one.

Haven't been on a KDL club committee for 5 years, but been trying to recruit players far and wide in that time and I believe the 70G being talked about for a side would be well off the mark. A budget of $2,000 a week including coach (normally comes in under $30,000 a year with injuries) was the norm in my time. Would agree with the Nagambie claim that they would be around the mark I just mentioned, some clubs may get up to the $50,000 but it would be a small minority.
As you can see from iwantanotherflag's maths, paying 25 blokes just gets you to $67,500, most clubs would have more than half there senior players playing for nothing each week. 10 paid players at a club would be the max surely!
