To me the beauty of the new site is letting it do the work for us to make it easy to join another comp
If manual work was then created on top it takes that away, but if someone is committed to make it work I do like the idea of 2 divisions
While I'd also like to have two divisions, the issue post-draft becomes that the same free agents are available in both leagues.

So throughout the year, those players will be added/dropped, etc. And by the end of the year, two teams going up or down can't have those same players on lists the following year.

The only ways around it that I can think of:
  • No free agents are allowed to be picked at all each year.
  • If any free agent is picked up that year, they go back into the draft pool the year after for all.
  • Some kind of priority system that a lower team from div 2 gets the waiver instead of div 1 by the end of that season.

There's probably loopholes and asterisks in this somewhere, which is kinda why I think it's best to avoid something that has problems before we've even made a keeper league.

Would mean someone has to be available to do manual google work. Then they have a kid and we are screwed IMO

No, before they have the kid is when they are screwed. ;) (Sorry everyone, I couldn't resist it!)

Seriously though, it is looking like 2 x 8 team leagues might be more trouble than it's worth at this stage and that it might be better to stick with 14 team in one league imo. Promotion / relation system may be something that the developer looks at in the future once he nails down Keeper's operation.

I think what everyone is in agreeance is that we want something different to BDFL and PRC.

Just an idea, but could we look at something like have lists of 40, but only keep 30, so something.

Would mean the draft is a bit bigger each year but it opens up regeneration of team lists sooner in a way and reduces dominance from a handful of teams.

I don’t know what BDFL and PRC are.

We could look at bigger lists, I’m a fan of deep leagues, but it’d kill off the promotion and relegation aspect.

Other categories available for free.

I personally like the idea of larger squads, just way more categories meaning you don't need to win the half back lottery. I don't like.the idea of guys with good drafting and list management having to delist good players because u need to find 10 to drop.

Love the idea of promotion / relegation but I don't see how that works for keeper. Keep things simple. Happy to defer to the longer term keeper players for what works best and if that means setting up 2-3 smaller leagues we can always expand next season and beyond.

Just had a thought:

Promotion/relegation can work … but if you get relegated from Div 1, you have to take over the team from Div 2. And vice versa.

Which makes it a new challenge in itself.

Which means both competitions can run a full draft and free agents, but those lists will always remain in their own division.

Not sure you’ll get the long term buy in for that. Makes it hard to be invested in building a list if you might lose it. Also the worst list in the top league and best list in the lower league might have those same two coaches ping-ponging up and down.

I guess that's the fun of it?

the main issues with two divisions are?

  • draft?
  • free agents?
  • trades?

draft we can do offline. It will be a bit of a pain when it will show players available on the Keeper site that are not available, but nothing somebody with half a brain can work out.

weekly free agents can be abolished and replaced with a midseason draft - again, done off-line.

trades across divisions will need to be processed manually, but given how easy it is to add players to a squad this won't be an issue..

An issue is the recording of the allocation of draft picks traded across divisions.. that is slightly more tricky, one, but something we have been doing in BFDL for 10 years anyway (for future draft picks)..

any other obvious issues that will be problematic?

Is it possible to lock all waivers?

Because that could end up the easiest way, if we went down that path of a mid-season draft, like you mention.

It is good to throw up ideas, but if it is only div 1 and div 2 in name only, I don't really get the appeal. who would want to give up a great team to have a shite team in what could be potentially a much weaker league, as there is a 50/50 chance that div 2 will be the better league of the two anyway.

As I've said it's amazing in theory, the reality is it's a pain unless a website has that function. Even if we have a Google sheet master, if life eventually gets in the way we are screwed.

My view is one league and start taking categories.

I'd like to add a few new categories and potentially have goals/score weighted more than disposals.

yeah no worries. I don't think it is too much of a pain in the grand scheme of things, but I know it is not what you were thinking of when you asked for expressions of interest in a new league :)

Adding in anything that gives KPD (spoils/1%ers) and KPF (goals/marks/score assists) over the usual stats is welcome in my eyes. :)

I'd rather not see a league full of random stats only though.
