kicking footys outside the ground

After the Essendon game last night I was walking around the ground with my son to the train when whack, right in the back of the neck/head with a football. It really hurt, I feel like I have whiplash today, and I was stunned for a few moments. When I turned around there were a couple of girls laughing themselves silly. One came up and apologised. Surely this practice should be banned. It really hurt me, although for dignity and my son's sake I pretended it didn't, and if it had hit my seven year old son it could have done some major damage. Why isn't this banned?

If you are talking Docklands I thought it was banned on the concourse.

That said, given you barrack for Bombers I would like to say 'good shot' ;)

I am talking Docklands and if it is banned they're not doing a very good job enforcing it seeing as every man and his dog were doing it. It was like trying to dodge bullets walking back to the train.

A similar thing happened to me a few years ago except that it occurred inside Etihad Stadium itself. I really wasn't expecting it and it did actually hurt for quite a long time. The practice of kicking footballs (inside or outside the stadium) should be banned completely before someone is very seriously hurt indeed.

It is banned, there are signs everywhere. I've never seen it policed.

how desperate are you to take a footy to a game knowing you can't kick it on the ground, and a night game?!

oh sorry, did you say chicks? :p

Oh the Memories, sounds just like when we used to be allowed onto the MCG after matches.

Shame it's gone.

it is banned at etihad, can lose footy's onto the roads nearby, possibility of someone being a fool and falling over the edge whilst attempting a mark, and of corse, a situation like yours where there is a lot of people in a confined area.

Got hit right in the side of my face from about 2 metres away walking to Richmond station and the same thing, the guy and his mates were laughing their heads off... So I grabbed the footy, and threw it over the fence into the train yard... They were not impressed, however a couple of rather big onlookers were happy I did it and backed me up when they had a go at me... Go join your local comp if u wanna get a kick... Kids I don't mind, but not adults kicking as hard as they can, trying to show off..

I copped a footy in the face on night after a game at Waverley. I was in the goals square, and bent down to pick up a ball. When I stood up, smack, an incoming footy hit me fair and square on the nose. Blood went everywhere. Still, that was my fault. I knew there were footies being kicked in my direction, and should've taken more care. I'd suggest the same to the OP, even though they shouldn't be doing it, they are. So be aware, and take care.

I think we could probably make an exception inside the stadium. Otherwise there'd be no game.

Oh boo hoo, you got a little bit hurt by a stray ball so you come on bigfooty to whinge about it. Alot of people at the footy are idiots, they're not gonna change and become normal once outside the gates, you've learned your lesson. You copped a whack, be careful next time and move on, FFS some people are ********s

In summer we should also bring in the rule some cricket grounds in England now have - you are not allowed to hit a six in case the ball hits somebody.

Toughen up, princess.
