Re: Kieran King

Just to be clear theres no gentlemans agreement and if any other club see's it fit to pick up King then they will. Clayton Collard was delisted by the dockers a few years back and the club looked to pick him up in the rookie draft, instead he was snared with Richmonds first rookie pick.

Especially in a shallow draft Brisbane are running a great risk thinking King will last all the way through to their first pick in the rookie draft.

Re: Kieran King

Yeah I expect that he will be picked up by us again. Guys also on the permission to train list on the Lions website it has Niaall McKeevers name. What is all that about does anyone know?

Re: Kieran King

Interesting summary of the new rookie rules, including an explanation of how it works with people already on the list. Posting it here since it looks like what we're going to do with Keiran, though obviously (hopefully?) he's not in the same situation as described in the article. Purely as unrelated speculation (if no one else picks him up), we may still do this with Hooper though since we'll potentially be paying his wage anyway...

For example a player with a year left on his contract, but out of favour, could be delisted. He would then receive a guarantee the club would take him in the rookie draft.

The club would continue to pay the player's full wage, but he would be a rookie.

Not sure it's new. I'm pretty sure we did it with Luke Forsyth.

Re: Kieran King

Just let you know guys he has quit and won't be playing for the lions next year

Quit probably isn't the right word.

If it was up to both King and the club, both would be happy to have him on the Lions list next year.

2009 End of Season Review

Choosing AFL after being an Australian junior 400 metre champion, King was taken with at pick 81 in the National Draft. Despite a tendency to prefer footballers over athletes, Voss had been impressed with King during their time at the AIS. An outside player, King had a reasonable start in the AFLQ, but unfortunately suffered a serious ankle injury. He was placed on the long term injury list in April and missed the rest of the season.

King was then a surprise delisting at the end of the year. While nothing official was announced, there was talk his ankle injury was so bad that it is incapable of ever recovering. With King being placed on the club's permission to train list it was thought he would be picked up in the rookie draft, but it never eventuated. It was a sad end to a career that was over almost as soon as it started.
