Knightmare, who could the Swans get at their first pick? We really need a tall forward or an athletic ruckman, or possibly a very fast small forward in the mould of Stephen Milne, who could we get at say pick 18?

It is possible Brodie Grundy or Jake Stringer explodes and puts up a case that can't be overlooked. But Whitfield at this stage is the consensus no.1 selection.

For Melbourne while the start to the season has been uninspiring I do expect a much stronger 2nd half to the season and a higher finish than GWS, Gold Coast and possibly even a Port Adelaide or North Melbourne. In the unlikely scenario that Melbourne do finish last I do recommend looking at a top 10 and going through a number of other names to see if there is a player who is a better fit. Nick Vlastuin, Jimmy Toumpas, Brodie Grundy and Jake Stringer are the others at this stage I would very much recommend as the others you must look at if looking for an alternative to Whitfield. All of these look like they will have serious futures at AFL level and one or two of them could all things said and done become the better players. But Whitfield is a hell of a player and there is a reason why he has been the most spoken about up to this point in time.

Thanks KM, just on Whitfield he seems a bit too outside for me to be truly comfortable with taking him as the no. 1 selection for Melbourne.

We'd be looking for a more complete package (although probably would lose a bit in the disposal area) from what I've seen.

Melbourne fans already certain of finishing last and getting the number 1 pick, oh dear.

Thanks for all your great efforts Knightmare.

But I can't find anything in your draft list about him, is there a reason for that?

He's a victorian and Paparone plays in the WAFL Colts. :D

A few players from WA generally suprise this time of the year, Knightmare has a few others missing that could go first round, one of them i want in Eagles colors and im not willing to pump any more than i have. :thumbsu:

Knightmare, Shaquille McKenzie's game is one of good pace, excellent attack on the ball and highly skilled. Like Murray Newman he wins plenty of the ball in spite of his size and uses it well, he's also a pretty good runner.

He gets a lot of the ball averaging 20 touches a game this year at Colts and Reserve level.

He played eight League games for East Perth last season and averaged 11.5 touches and 1.25 goals a game. After the champs he will probably return to League football.

That's only one of them, he doesn't speak for all.
And obviously has an obsession with high picks, understandably!

And you don't speak for me champ. :thumbsu:

I think we'll finish around 13th, but it crosses my mind that if we keep our form up we'll be stone-motherless last and if we did I'd hate to be sucked in to the 'consensus pick'.

For the draft Raymann?

I'm not sure at the moment, I'll know more after I watch the 6 or so U18 Championship games I'm planning on.

What I do know is that I saw a bit of him in the Champs last year and have some queries on him, mainly aggression and his contested work.

If it's a Gibbs/Goddard type vs a Selwood type, I'd prefer the Selwood.

Understand your thought process Selwood v Gibbs.

And yes your top 10 for the draft.

Also this name popped up on the QLD team...
33 Bill Pendlebury 19/05/95 179 80 Morningside

Do you know anything about him/if he has any relation to the great man himself... It's not the most common name after all.

I don't think Bill is any relation.

He went pretty well in the under 16 Champs last year but I don't think we will see him this year in the under 18s. He is a Lions academy player so we will get first crack at him.

Thanks for that. It's a very uncommon name but I suppose far more weird things have happened

#11 Collingwood- Kristian Jaksch (VIC – KPD/KPF)
Height: 195cm, Weight: 86kg, DOB: 07/10/1994
Recruited from: Oakleigh Chargers
Style: Ben Reid
Player comparison:
Range: 10-30
Profile: Really promising key position player who can capably play forward or back to a high level. Really love the way his game has developed over the past few years and has continued to develop strongly from year to year. Very strong overhead mark and is a real contested marking threat around the ground. Has very strong hands. Reads the play to a very high level and reads the ball in the air well. Skill level above average for a key position player and is particularly impressive by foot. Athletically Jaksch is above average, has a solid leap but also moves really well with good pace and agility but he should develop into more of a power key defender or key forward with his strong marking game. Has the body type where he should capably continue to grow out strongly. I like Jaksch most as a key defender in a similar rebounding type role to what Ben Reid plays for Collingwood, has an incredibly similar game but he could capably develop into a key forward and in years gone past has shown that he can be a real marking presence and goal kicking force up forward.
Why:

Just wondering why you have him going in the 1st Round of your Yearly Mock Draft and Not James Stewart?

Have James going to us in the 2nd Round where I think it's a great place we would get him

As a key forward look out for Mason Shaw if available.

Liam McBean as a ruckman might be another who might go around your selection.

Can always get forwards later in the draft. Shannon Taylor is a popular small forward at this stage - could go somewhere in the 2nd round. Nathan Hrovat while not speedy has impressed me and might be one to look out for later on along with Anthony Bonaddio.

I wouldn't be concerned about Whitfield being outside - running is his strength. He is a high production outside player and unlike Gibbs who was an early bloomer I see Whitfield showing much more sustained improvement and being a much higher production player all things said and done. Melbourne will get Viney as an inside player anyway and a Ben Duscher or Sam Dwyer could be considered later or as rookies if still looking for more inside inside support anyway.

I'd also recommend taking a look at West Coast's Koby Stevens in trade week if he becomes available - very underutilised. Aaron Davey could be attractive to West Coast as that forward they have been missing.

A similar deal could be worked for Brock McLean. So there are plenty of inside option.

Will look out for him. Thanks for the notes.

Always plenty I'm missing at this early stage of the year. Have updated my list but I can easily imagine another half dozen really surprising me.

Great assessment Knightmare. Can you tell me a bit about Mason Shaw, and do you think the Bulldogs have a chance of getting him? Thanks in advance:)

Could be in that range so Shaw is one to look out for. Would be closing in on that Kurt Tippett type height. Strong marking player and big presence up forward. Accurate in front of goal and lifts for the big games.

Just depends on whether another club bid on Stewart before our first selection. Will depend on those compensation selections and our eventual ladder positioning. Unless we finish outside of the top 8 the most likely outcomes is that we will be using a 1st round selection on Stewart - which I don't have a problem with.

Do you know how Will Beasley is going this year?

The rumour going around the WB boards over the summer was that he gave up footy to concentrate on the rowing for Geelong Grammar - but not sure if that was just for the summer?

Concentrating on rowing, given up footy. Was never going to be good enough to play TAC Cup anyway let alone AFL.
