#18 Collingwood (Via West Coast) - Ben Kennedy (SA –Fwd/ Mid)
Height: 174cm, Weight: 76kg, DOB: 03/03/1994
Recruited from: Glenelg
Style: Brent Harvey
Player comparison:
Range: 13-30
Profile: Very small midfielder, but he can play. Has really elite explosive pace which would be in the very top percentile. As well as that pace he also uses it effectively and willingly takes on opposition players to effect. More than has the performances on the board and showed a lot during the 2011 and 2012 U18 championships. Kennedy is a big accumulator and can hit the scoreboard for a number of goals. Ball use generally very good. Has a neat left foot kick with nice real penetration and hurt factor with it. Very capable of winning his own ball. Marking ability good for a player of his height. I have some queries about eventual position. Not an elite inside ball winner or stoppage player to suggest his inside game develops into anything particularly outstanding, doesn’t really have much of an outside game, not finding enough outside ball then as a forward despite his pace his tackling game is good but not elite as you’d probably expect in a player of this type. Likely he develops into a rotation forward who can push into the midfield with his explosiveness for periods but it will be interesting to see if he can develop into more than a rotation/role player. Kennedy has a big chance of doing what Dion Prestia and Devon Smith have done in recent years in getting drafted early despite lack of height.

#19 Collingwood- Tim O’Brien (SA – KPF)
Height: 192cm, Weight: 81kg, DOB: 28/03/1994
Recruited from: Glenelg
Style:
Player Comparison: Jack Anthony (more athletic)
Range: 15-25
Profile: O’Brien has stood out with his contested marking ability throughout the u18 championships. He is a strong marking target up forward and while he isn’t the biggest key forward his marking ability overhead is strong always marking at the highest point out in front. Has some real smarts as a key forward, gets to the right positions, protects the drop zone and does all the right things. Accurate set shot goal kicker and makes the most of his opportunities.

#20 Collingwood (Via Melbourne through GWS Compensation Pick from Adelaide) - Jesse Lonergan (TAS - Mid)
Height: 183cm, Weight: 86kg, DOB: 14/11/1994
Recruited from: Launceston
Style: Chris Judd (defensive version)
Player comparison:
Range: 11-25
Profile: Lonergan is a very strong, immediate inside ball winning machine. Really powerful contested ball winner and clearance player. Has some real breakaway pace and can separate himself from the pack with his power. Tackling game very strong. Above average inside distributor by hand. Lonergan has missed much of the first half of this year with injury but that doesn’t change the fact that he looms as a potentially excellent inside midfield option. Haven’t seen many signs with Lonergan of an outside game and for him this is the next stage. Kicking has improved significantly this year after being mostly inconsistent in previous years. Lonergan looks like a really solid prospect and one of the more ready to go prospects with his AFL ready body. Don’t sleep on him. Few have the same combination of inside ability, strength and explosive pace.

#21 Western Bulldogs (Via Hawthorn) - Taylor Garner (VIC – Fwd/Mid)
Height: 186cm, Weight: 77kg, DOB: 08/01/1994
Recruited from: Dandenong
Style: Jimmy Bartell
Player comparison:
Range: 9-25
Profile: Garner is an interesting player who can play forward or through the midfield to a high level. Up forward looks dangerous and is a strong marking target. 1v1 marking ability good and has some ability in the air. Has a great leap on him and can take a hanger. Tackling ability good. When he steps up into the midfield can win his own ball and is a very strong contested ball winner which is great to see considering he isn’t yet super strongly built. I do have some concerns over the consistency of his ball use by foot and have found he isn’t always clean at ground level which is a concern for a forward, additionally decision making on a number of occasions throughout the u18 championships let him down and didn’t always find the right target, but there is a fair bit to work with none the less and the improvement from seemingly nowhere is very encouraging and I suggest there is plenty more to come.

#22 Sydney - Nicholas Graham (VIC – Mid/Util)
Height: 182cm, Weight: 76kg, DOB: 12/06/1994
Recruited from: Gippsland Power
Style:
Player comparison:
Range: 20-45
Profile: Have been impressed with his game. What really stands out with Graham is his ability to attack the ball and I really like his tackling game and his tackling energy has been a real highlight with the pressure he provides. Marking ability also solid for a player of his size. Uses it very well by both hand and foot. Decision making ability good. Also an above average stoppage player and has a really natural inside awareness as well as the ability to read ruck taps.

#23 Brisbane (Compensation Pick) - Tim Membrey (VIC - Fwd)
Height: 188cm, Weight: 87kg, DOB: 26/05/1994
Recruited from: Gippsland Power
Style:
Player comparison: Jack Darling
Range: 11-40
Profile: Strong, ready to go forward. Real leader by example and one of those types who demands respect. Has to this point in time played as a key forward but projects as more of a 3rd tall at his height. Has the ability to play right away with his strong, man’s body. Big contested marking target up forward who hits the scoreboard with regularity and has produced some big goal hauls. Very strong mark on the lead. Set shot goal kicking very good and knows where the goals are. Membrey is physically very strongly built so his impact for a forward looks like it could be more immediate than the next player. Membrey’s production and presence up forward is un-ignorable. While he hasn’t had much opportunity through the midfield I would be drafting him to be developed into a strong bodied inside midfielder. Has the skillset and as well as the physicality to thrive in this role but having played mostly forward this year it is still an unknown

#24 St Kilda (Via GWS) – Tom Clurey (VIC – KPD)
Height: 193cm, Weight: 85kg, DOB: 23/03/1994
Recruited from: Murray Bushrangers
Style:
Player comparison: James Clement
Range: 15-25
Profile: Clurey has a solid shutdown game but what has stood out in his play has been his rebounding game and ball use. Showed plenty during the u18 champs and throughout the season just how complete his game is. For mine the best key defender in this draft. Uses the as ball well any coming out of the back half and has elite footskills for a key defender and has the ability to use either foot to a very high level. Strong overhead and 1v1 can take marks. Reads it well and can get off his man to take the intercept mark and reads the game really well. Has the ability to go with a guy 1v1 and goes well in 1v1 marking contests. Endurance elite and tested superbly at the draft combine and can run with anyone as a key defender. Also has the ability to play forward and while I consider him more of a key defender this could also be a possibility if required.

#25 St Kilda (Via Gold Coast) - Nathan Wright (VIC – Def/Mid)
Height: 183cm, Weight: 78kg, DOB: 16/02/1994
Recruited from: Dandenong Stingrays
Style: Corey Enright (more inside)
Player comparison:
Range: 20-40
Profile: Missed much of the first half of the season but since injury has put together some really nice form. Wright is an athletic defender who can also push into the midfield and have an influence. Wright has excellent pace and a great leap on him. As a defender Wright has the ability to play shutdown roles on smaller or medium types but can also run off a back flank and provide some rebound. Defensively he can go with most players in the air and won’t get burned by too many quicker types. Has the ability through his running to do some damage and can really burst away off a back flank with his explosiveness and has a mean sidestep allowing him to really create separation and easily pass by the opposition forward to start that explosive drive only he can create. With his leaping ability has the ability to take some highflying marks and with this feature of his game might also have potential as a forward which could be something looked at as an alternative depending on team needs. Tackling ability good. Wright also has the ability to go through the midfield, win his own ball and play a role and I think could really thrive in a full time inside midfield role with his ball winning ability. Just plays with a great physicality you love to watch and can win his own ball. Kicking is mostly good and even at full pace can execute but I do have some questions under pressure how good Wright’s ball use is and I have some minor questions about his decision making ability in these situations but there is plenty to work with here and otherwise he looks like a ripper.

#26 Melbourne- Jack Viney (VIC - Mid) F/S
Height: 178cm, Weight: 80kg, DOB: 13/04/1994
Recruited from: Oakleigh Chargers
Style: Joel Selwood
Player comparison: Toby Greene
Range: 2nd round
Profile: Really competitive and hard inside midfield. Could have joined an AFL club as a 17 year old and been a regular. Not a big fella, but purely and simply he is the hardest player I’ve seen coming through the system and his attack on the ball, attack on the man and aggression on the field is without equal and the big reason why he is such a dominant player already. Wins all the hard, contested ball and as a 17 year old was doing better than most of the 18 year olds who got drafted early, so Melbourne will get very lucky to have young Jack who I’m sure will very quickly become a Mark Neeld favourite. Tackling is excellent. Is a real leader out on the field and is someone who really leads by his actions and hardness at the footy. Potential culture changer and sure to be a member of the leadership group soon enough. Really high character guy and hard worker who will put time into his game until he becomes elite. Jack has very clean hands and uses it well by hand consistently. Big time accumulator. Left foot kick, can use his right. Kicking is generally very good and can find his targets over short and medium range but doesn’t have that same hurt factor as some of the other elite mids in this draft. Speed is good and can break away from packs, also athletically I like his agility and side step, has some evasiveness and can burst off in another direction at pace. The big strength athletically is his endurance which without seeing any of his testing I suspect would be very, very good because he has such a high work rate.

#27 GWS (Via Hawthorn and Western Bulldogs) - Tim Broomhead (SA – Util)
Height: 182cm, Weight: 73g, DOB: 22/03/1994
Recruited from: Port Adelaide
Style:
Player comparison: Heath Shaw
Range: 25-50
Profile: Broomhead is a versatile type who can play midfield, forward or back to a high level. Broomhead has a solid all round game. Wins his own ball, has a good but not great skill set, has some real pace and is strong overhead. Broomhead will start his career in more of an outside role and hopefully work his way inside as that part of his game develops further and he adds more size to his frame.

#28 Hawthorn (Via Port Adelaide) - Liam McBean (VIC – KPP/Ruck)
Height: 202cm, Weight: 84kg, DOB: 25/08/1994
Recruited from: Calder Cannons
Style: Josh Fraser
Player comparison: Lachlan Keeffe
Range: 20-50
Profile: Ruckman who can also play forward and has also spent most of this year playing down back so there is some versatility. McBean is an agile type ruckman who is excellent at ground level for a player of his size and has an excellent skill set and decision making ability for a tall. As a forward typically leads to the right spots and is a strong marking target without being a contested marking threat. Additionally he is an above average set shot goal kicker which is another nice positive. As a defender McBean has shown that he has the ability spoil his man and do a defensive job while using it cleanly from the back half for someone of his height. Physically McBean has a long way to go and I don’t ever expect him to develop into a super powerful ruckman but with time there is the chance that he develops into a useful tall utility who can play forward/back and some minutes as a no.2 ruck.

#29 Port Adelaide (Compensation Pick) – Rory Atkins (VIC – Mid/Fwd)
Height: 183cm, Weight: 75kg, DOB: 12/07/1994
Recruited from: Calder Cannons
Style:
Player comparison:
Range: 25-50
Profile: Atkins is a forward who can also push up into the midfield. Excellent by both hand and foot rarely missing a target. What makes him stand out is his decision making under pressure and his ball use in congestion, making decisions quickly and makes the right ones consistently. Strong overhead at his size. Has some pace and can burst away. Running ability has much improved and has really built that ability to push up the ground and get his hands on the ball more. Just needs to figure out how to do it against stronger opposition next. Feels too outside for my liking and I’d like to see him win more of his own ball and that will be the next stage for him.

#30 Port Adelaide (Compensation Pick) – Sam Colquhoun (SA – Def/Mid)
Height: 179cm, Weight: 72kg, DOB: 20/12/1994
Recruited from: Central District
Style: Heath Scotland
Player comparison:
Range: 20-50
Profile: Colquhoun is a back flanker with elite endurance and above average footskills. Really hard runner and gets into space to provide an option. Colquhoun while not a super high hurt factor type uses it well and can set up some meaningful drive at times by picking the right targets and using it well. Down back Colquhoun also stands out with his intercepting game and he regularly rebounds everything that comes his way. Most suited to playing loose an unaccountable rebounding role down back and can struggle at times 1v1 against stronger opposition. Also has some difficulty defending quicker forwards at times.

#31 Richmond (Compensation Pick via Port Adelaide) – Jackson Thurlow (TAS – Def/Mid)
Height: 190cm, Weight: 79kg, DOB: 28/03/1994
Recruited from: Launceston
Style:
Player comparison:
Range: 15-60
Profile: Really impressed early on during the u18 champs down back with his ability to read it down back and rebound. Thurlow is willing to shift off his man and can play extra man down back. What stands out is his ability to read it and take intercept marks, he just mops up everything from the back half. Hard runner and will present as a linkup option. Ball use good by both hand and foot without being great. Has some versatility and can play on a wing or up forward as well in the back half. Probably not the best shutdown defender and plays mostly unaccountable football down back. I feel his dominance particularly early on during the u18 champs against the div 1 sides was due to the sheer quantity of ball coming into the back half as well as being the primary option coming out of defence, because of this I’ll be interested to see how clubs evaluate him and I expect a fair bit of variety but has shown more than enough to suggest that he will receive an opportunity.

#32 Brisbane- Tanner Smith (VIC – KPD)
Height: 194cm, Weight: 83kg, DOB: 09/03/1994
Recruited from: North Ballarat
Style: Simon Prestigiacomo
Player comparison:
Range: 20-50
Profile: One of the best shut down key defender of this year’s draft. Very good at limiting the impact of his direct opponent. Gets great spoil numbers. He has some variety in his game and has the ability to play off his man, hold his own one on one or zone off depending on what he needs to do for his team. Most of his touches come from intercept possessions or marks. Athletically Smith is above average and has the speed and endurance to go with most players. Physically still has some way to go so give him some time. Skills on the improve. Has added some marking and running to his game this year and is starting to go from purely a shut down player to someone who increasingly can also provide some rebound which is a real positive but he still looks best as a guy who will be able to take the most dangerous opposition forward and limit his influence. When played forward I’ve found him to be really passive, not attacking the ball as he needs to in the air and isn’t a real marking threat so best he remains a key defender and makes a niche back there where his game is better suited.

#33 Richmond- Tim McGenniss (VIC – Mid)
Height: 180cm, Weight: 76kg, DOB: 18/01/1994
Recruited from: Dandenong Stingrays
Style:
Player comparison:
Range: 30-70
Profile: Hard contested ball type who wins all the clearances. Uses it well and can also get some outside ball. Numbers not huge but from reports has really impressed throughout the interview process and is from reports very coachable and trains as hard as any.

#34 Essendon- Adam Carter (WA –Def/Mid)
Height: 179cm, Weight: 70kg, DOB: 17/04/1994
Recruited from: South Fremantle
Style: Heath Shaw
Player comparison:
Range: 30-50
Profile: Carter while on the short side is not at all short on talent. Has the ability to play either through the midfield or down back. He is a high level rebounding with excellent kicking ability. Carter has great penetration on his kick and uses it as at high disposal efficiency. Defensively is also very solid and has the ability to shut down his man, has good strength 1v1 for a player of his size and while not super quick can go with most small forwards. One aspect of Carter’s play I find really encouraging is his attack on the ball for a smaller guy, really ferocious and can win his own ball in any position. Carter also seems difficult to tackle and has very good core strength allowing him to stand up in those tackles. Athletically Carter is slightly above average but it isn’t a feature of his game as it might be with others.

#35 Carlton – Jason Ashby (VIC – Def)
Height: 185cm, Weight: 77kg, DOB: 16/05/1994
Recruited from: Oakleigh Chargers
Style:
Player comparison:
Range: 30-rookie
Profile: Ashby has improved strongly this season playing off a back flank. He has a really strong running game and has excellent endurance. Has a solid two way game and not only can provide rebound with his run and carry game but can also play a lock down role and limit the goals of his direct opponent through a solid 1v1 game. Strong mark overhead and really attacks the ball. Ashby’s deficiency is in his kicking, the hurt factor isn’t there of some of the other prospects and it can lack consistency at times which he will want to clean up.

#36 Fremantle (Via St Kilda) – Mason Shaw (WA – KPF)
Height: 197cm, Weight: 82kg, DOB: 15/01/1994
Recruited from: South Fremantle
Style: Kurt Tippett
Player comparison:
Range: 15-45
Profile: Strong marking key forward. Has a presence, marks out in front and can take a contested grab. Had a sensation 2011 season scoring 66 goals which is a great return for the young key forward. Has good accuracy from both general play and set shot attempts. Also Shaw is a serious big game player kicking 7 goals in the grand final which is a big return and shows potential to continue being a big game player into the future. Good finisher around goal and in general play. Endurance very good for a key forward. Has played in the ruck but I most like Shaw as a key forward and see that as the position where he can impose himself on matches most as a big marking target.

#37 North Melbourne- Ben Jacobs (VIC – Mid/Def)
Height: 185cm, Weight: 82kg, DOB: 09/01/1991
Recruited from: Port Adelaide
Style:
Player comparison:
Range: 25-40
Profile: Long kicking back flanker who has decided after two years with Port Adelaide to move back home to Victoria. I’m not such a fan of his play off a back flank, kicking inconsistent and decision making has at times been poor. Very high level endurance runner and seems best suited as a midfielder who can play some inside, some outside.

#38 Collingwood (Via North Melbourne and Geelong) – Dayle Garlett (WA – Mid/Fwd)
Height: 180cm, Weight: 75kg, DOB: 09/01/1994
Recruited from: Swan Districts Football Club
Style: Harley Bennell
Player comparison:
Range: 18-rookie
Profile: Quality outside midfielder who can sneak forward and have an impact. Showed a fair bit of talent through the 2011 U18 champs and again in 2012 has played some excellent football and really put forward a strong case suggesting that he should be selected early. Garlett has game-breaking pace and uses it to advantage with regularity and is willing to take running bounces and take the ball as far as the opposition let him. Decision making excellent and even when pressured or in congestion still makes the right decision most of the time. Finishing around goal good. Left footer with some nice penetration and hurt factor on his kick and hits his targets easily. Can also use his right boot and use it well. Has the ability to really hit the scoreboard and be very damaging with the influence he can have on some games. Also when the ball hits the ground I like how he immediately has that quickness of mind and body to get to the ball quicker than everyone and quickly get the ball onto hit boot for a goal. I like it that despite his lack of size that he is still capable of winning his own ball and playing on the ball and not just outside. Dayle still needs to build more strength through the hips so that he can stand up in tackles, but there is a fair bit to like about his game. Also defensively can continue to get better to compliment his incredible offensive game. I’m hearing some real discipline issues which may see Garlett slide down the draft more than his talent deserves. It will be really interesting to see how clubs evaluate Garlett as he is an unbelievable talent, but the risk is there. Likely the end of season interviewing will decide his eventual draft position but certainly on the field has done everything right and produced some big games and continued to develop his game which for me is the sign to suggest that he will continue to improve. Garlett I suggest would benefit from a move from WA and into a successful interstate club to get the best out of his game. Do this and you’ve got a winner with Garlett and I suggest he becomes one of the best from this draft.

#39 Fremantle – Jason Pongracic (VIC – Mid/Fwd)
Height: 182cm, Weight: 86kg, DOB: 21/04/1994
Recruited from: Dandenong Stingrays
Style: Dustin Martin (less athletic)
Player comparison:
Range: 20-50
Profile: Strong body and big bodied inside ball winner who has missed some time this year with injury earlier in the year but then made a strong comeback in the second half of the season. Real in and under type who attacks the footy and more often than not comes out with it. Displays great hardness at the footy and just really attacks it. Seems to really enjoying playing for the contested ball. Excellent by both hand and foot and is one of those few strong contested ball winners who can use it really well. Pongracic is a really early bloomer and has been good for a number of years. The question with Pongracic is because he is bigger than everyone else does he do it because of size or because he is just better than everyone else? The other query is on pace and he is not one of the quickest midfielders going around. In any case he will be one of the more immediate talents who should be able to step up to AFL level more quickly than the next midfielder. Pongracic has also shown since coming back from injury this year the ability to play up forward and have an impact.

#40 St Kilda (Via West Coast) – Michael Close (VIC – KPD/KPF)
Height: 195cm, Weight: 82kg, DOB: 30/07/1994
Recruited from: North Ballarat Rebels
Style:
Player comparison:
Range: 25-65
Profile: Mobile key position player with elite endurance for a key position player. Can play forward or back but is probably more suited to playing down back. Reasonable mark overhead but as a key forward probably not dominant enough for my liking. Good user of the footy for someone at his height. Has had his injury issues this year but still looks a strong chance to get drafted.

#41 North Melbourne (Via Collingwood) - Darcy Fort (VIC – Ruck)
Height: 203cm, Weight: 84kg, DOB: 06/08/1993
Recruited from: Geelong Falcons
Style:
Player comparison: Tom Hickey
Range: 25-rookie
Profile: I've been really encouraged with Fort's ability to take a contested grab and as the season has progressed we have seen him present as more of a marking threat around the ground. Fort is a very willing tackler and this is an area of his game that has shown great growth throughout the year and has in recent weeks has been a feature of his game. Tapwork good and like the rest of his game also seems to be improving rapidly, getting a hand on more balls but also showing that he can tap to the advantage of his midfield group. Fort contributes well around the ground and gets involved in the play. With Fort you just feel there is something to work with and from all reports he is a hard worker and add to that the strong improvement he has shown throughout the season and I see a lot more growth left in his game. Has a thin frame. Long term prospect needing more time in the gym but with this being his first year in an AFL program there should plenty of development left.

#42 Richmond (Via Adelaide) – Dean Towers (VIC – Mid)
Height: 189cm, Weight: 83kg, DOB: 04/05/1990
Recruited from: North Ballarat
Style:
Player comparison:
Range: 25-65
Profile: Mature ager who has really impressed this year at times. Has come from a fair way back and has shown some strong development over these past two seasons. Tested strongly at the draft combine standing out with his leaping ability and speed both on display. More your outside line breaker. One criticism of Towers is being that outside line breaker and with his pace being that primary feature I just don’t see enough of it. He doesn’t threaten to take over games with his pace as a Lewis Jetta or Isaac Smith can and he just doesn’t utilise that pace enough in games. At his size and with limited time in the VFL system might be an interesting player to develop with more potential for improvement having not been in the system for as long.

#43 St Kilda (Via Western Bulldogs and Hawthorn) - Marvin Warrell (WA – Fwd/Mid)
Height: 182cm, Weight: 70kg, DOB: 19/09/1994
Recruited from: South Fremantle
Style:
Player Comparison:
Range: 25-50
Profile: Very quick forward with great pace and tackling ability. Would be among the very elite of this draft for pace. Just so aggressive with his tackling and really goes hard at the man for someone with such a light frame. Lacks consistency with his play which is to be expected with a small forward but on a good day Warrell can do some serious damage.

#44 Sydney- Josh Scott (VIC – KPF/Fwd)
Height: 190cm, Weight: 76kg, DOB: 08/03/1994
Recruited from: Gippsland Power
Style:
Player comparison:
Range: 30-70
Profile: Key forward who stands out with his marking ability. Strong on the lead and can also take a contested grab. Not a powerhouse key forward but more of an agile type with ability at ground level. Uses it well and generally a good set shot goal kicker.

#45 West Coast (Via St Kilda and GWS) -Kamdyn McIntosh (WA – Def/KPD)
Height: 192cm, Weight: 78kg, DOB: 03/04/1994
Recruited from: Peel Thunder
Style: Ted Richards
Player comparison:
Range: 15-45
Profile: McIntosh is a close checking, disciplined defender who can play on all sizes whether it be tall, medium or small forwards to a high level. He finished the season really strongly and showed strong progress in his offensive game in the second half of the season showing an increased willingness to shift off his man and generate some drive. Ball use out of the back half is a highlight and for a tall uses it really well by both hand a foot. Also has really impressive closing speed and above average athleticism allowing him to stick with his man. Has excellent endurance and can go all day. Just one of those guys you can give a role to and he will complete it, no fuss and get the job done. Sometimes with defenders that’s all you need. Also late in the season showed some ability to push up onto a wing and play some good footy showing that he has a few different strings to his bow.

#46 Sydney (Via Gold Coast) - Sam Siggins (TAS – KPD)
Height: 194cm, Weight: 86kg, DOB: 20/03/1994
Recruited from: Lauderdale
Style:
Player comparison:
Range: 25-rookie
Profile: Has shown some ability mostly in the back half demonstrating a solid two way game. Siggins can mark or spoil and provide some rebound at times with his good running game for a tall. Can play on different sizes.

#47 North Melbourne (Via Collingwood and Melbourne) - Tom Temay (VIC – Mid/Def)
Height: 179cm, Weight: 74kg, DOB: 06/02/1994
Recruited from: Sandringham Dragons
Style:
Player Comparison:
Range: 30-70
Profile: Temay is a midfielder and defender with the ability to play a variety of roles. Temay has shown throughout the u18 championships that he has the ability to cleanly use the ball out of the back half. Strong 1v1 player. Kicking skills are above average and at times set up some meaningful drive. Decision making also very good. Temay also at times has shown the ability to play some shutdown roles through the midfield or down back, most notably on Lachie Whitfield who he competed very well against. Temay through the midfield is more of an outside/linkup type but does have some ball winning ability and isn’t a soft outside player.

#48 Melbourne (Compensation Pick) - Matthew Dick (VIC – Def)
Height: 187cm, Weight: 86kg, DOB:
Recruited from: Calder Cannons
Style:
Player comparison:
Range: 30-60
Profile: Line breaking defender with some real pace. Can play on either talls or small well. Tackling game very good for a defender. Also capable of stepping into the midfield and playing a role. Ball use fine and performed well at the draft combine.

#49 Western Bulldogs- Lachie Hunter (VIC – Mid/Fwd) F/S
Height: 181cm, Weight: 78kg, DOB: 13/12/1994
Recruited from: Western Jets
Style: Dayne Beams
Player comparison:
Range: 3rd round
Profile: Lachie is yet another of those Western Bull Dogs midfielders via the F/S rule. He’s had a very productive year and has accumulated some big numbers in the TAC. Contested ball winning ability good but not great but what he does really well it attack the ball but even better is his attack on the man. Excellent tackler and makes his tackles stick and just goes after the man with the ball. Has some real pace to him and can evade tackles using his agility and side step. By hand very good and in congestion typically makes the right decisions. Has improved his kicking this year and has done some big damage around goal regularly playing off a forward flank showing just how good his finishing skills are at times when not playing through the midfield. Disposal efficiency not as high as it could be but I expect it to improve.

#50 Western Bulldogs (Compensation Pick) - Spencer White (VIC – KPF)
Height: 194cm, Weight: 86kg, DOB: 22/09/1994
Recruited from: Western Jets
Style:
Player comparison:
Range: 20-60
Profile: Strong marking presence and was very unlucky not to make the Vic Metro team. White has been dominating in the TAC Cup and has shown with his strong marking and goal kicking that he is worth a look. Defensively White could improve and needs to improve his endurance but when you have a guy who can present at the footy like White can and hit the scoreboard as he has the ability to do you need to take note.

#51 Essendon (Via Port Adelaide) - Cameron Banfield (VIC – Util)
Height: 183cm, Weight: 74kg, DOB: 01/02/1994
Recruited from: Sandringham Dragons
Style:
Player comparison:
Range: 25-65
Profile: Always seems to have plenty of time and space. Has played mostly down back this season but also has the versatility to also play through the midfield or up forward. Down back Banfield this year has shown the ability to set up play and generate meaningful forward movements by foot. Banfield is one of those players with more time than the next player and finds his targets by foot every time. Reads it well and can take those intercept marks. Can win his own ball but has more of an outside game. Tackling game strong. Also has some really nice pace with a nice sidestep and the ability to really break away. 1v1 ability not bad either and later in the season showed some ability to play shutdown roles demonstrating that he has the ability to be more than an instant offense player which is encouraging and suggests he has the ability to play a variety of roles in a variety of positions at the next level.

#52 Melbourne (Via Brisbane) - Sean Lynch (WA –Def/ Mid)
Height: 184cm, Weight: 76kg, DOB: 30/01/1994
Recruited from: South Fremantle
Style: Brent Stanton (Without the ball use concerns)
Player comparison:
Range: 30-70
Profile: High production outside player who mostly plays off a back flank. Work rate excellent and runs all day. Has some pace. Real link up type player and has a natural read on the game and knows where to run. Also has impressed with his kicking skills and is a good user of the footy. Lacks the flashiness of many back flank types but he makes up for it with the substance in his play and production. Defensively could put some further work into his game but otherwise I’ve liked what I’ve seen.

#53 Essendon- Joel Tippett (SA – KPD)
Height: 195cm, Weight: 91kg, DOB: 26/10/1988
Recruited from:
Style:
Player comparison:
Range: 40-rookie
Profile: Previously played for Gold Coast. Good athlete.Has put together a strong season in the SANFL demonstrating an impressive shutdown game.

#54 Carlton – Jarrod Lienert (SA – Def)
Height: 191cm, Weight: 80kg, DOB: 05/08/1994
Recruited from: Sturt
Style:
Player comparison: Sam Gilbert
Range: 25-60
Profile: Medium defender with strong overhead marking ability. Takes the game on with his run and carry. Generally a good user of the footy coming out of the back half. Has also in the past shown some ability to play forward suggesting some versatility. Mostly plays loose, unaccountable football.

#55 Gold Coast (Via St Kilda) – Samuel Lowrie (WA – Mid/Def)
Height: 187cm, Weight: 80kg, DOB: 22/07/1994
Recruited from: South Fremantle
Style:
Player comparison:
Range: 35-65
Profile: Lowrie is a tall midfielder who has played some really impressive footy and has produced some big numbers and shown strong improvement with particularly impressive late season form. Strong mark overhead. Lowrie can play either inside or outside to a high level and gets that combination of inside and outside ball. Lowrie is one of those work all day types and endurance would be up with the best in this draft.

#56 North Melbourne- Jordan Bourke (QLD - KPF)
Height: 193cm, Weight: 83kg, DOB: 11/11/1994
Recruited from: Morningside
Style:
Player comparison:
Range: 40-rookie
Profile: Bourke impressed with his play for Queensland during the u18 championships. Key forward who also has the ability to play through the midfield. Up forward Bourke is a reliable marking target. Athletically Bourke is well above average and has some nice quickness and some real agility which is impressive at his size. Set shot goal kicking also very good.

#57 Gold Coast (Via Geelong) – *Rookie upgrade

#58 Gold Coast (Via Fremantle) – *Zone selection

#59 West Coast – Nick Rodda (WA – KPD)
Height: 194cm, Weight: 94kg, DOB: 06/07/1994
Recruited from: West Perth
Style:
Player comparison:
Range: 35-70
Profile: Strongly built key defender who has impressed with his rebounding game. Defensively ok but not great struggling against the quicker forwards for pace but then also against those stronger in the air. Athletically only average. Has shown strong progress this year and his rebounding game is much improved. Strong mark down back at times and is often willing to attack the ball and go for the mark rather than just the spoil which is often a good sign in a defender. Reads it well down back and is willing to take those intercept marks. Has a long kick on him and uses it well for a key defender.

#60 West Coast (Compensation Pick) - Harry Marsh (WA – Def)
Height: 188cm, Weight: 78kg, DOB: 13/01/1994
Recruited from: East Fremantle
Style: Sam Gilbert
Player comparison:
Range: 35-rookie
Profile: Defender who has is probably more of a 3rd tall at the next level. Marsh is an offensive minded defender with strong marking ability and ability to read it in the back half. Marsh is an above average athlete and has a really nice leap on him. Marsh is also a very solid shut down defender and can do a lock down role when required and do it well. Has very good kicking ability and can easily find his targets up the field. Also has some 1v1 ability so plenty to work with.

#61 North Melbourne (Via Melbourne and Collingwood) – Taylor Hine (VIC – Mid)
Height: 184cm, Weight: 75kg, DOB: 24/01/1992
Recruited from: Gold Coast
Style:
Player comparison:
Range: 40-rookie
Profile: Previous Gold Coast midfielder heavily linked to North Melbourne.

#62 Adelaide – James Stewart (VIC – KPF/KPD)
Height: 197cm, Weight: 82kg, DOB: 04/03/1994
Recruited from: Sandringham Dragons
Style: Jack Watts
Player comparison: Corey Gault
Range: 35-rookie
Profile: Potential Collingwood Father Son selection who Collingwood elected not to take. Stewart is a long term prospect who still physically has a long way to go. Has played most of his footy either as a key forward or on a wing to this stage but also looks very capable as a key defender and to be honest this is where I see him making a position his at AFL level. Stewart as a key forward often looks lost not knowing where to run, often standing around and just doesn’t influence games enough mostly playing as a tallish flanker, certainly doesn’t scream “focal point key forward” at this early stage and if he is to make it as a key forward it would be on the basis of superior work rate and his work at ground level. Down back on the other hand Stewart looks a lot more natural with his ability to read the ball down back, mark strongly and kick accurately to a target down the field. Intuitively he seems to know when he can leave his opponent and looks a class above down back which is interesting for someone who has played mostly as a key forward/wing as a junior. Skill level is excellent for a key position player and by foot is particularly good – duel sided, can find targets over a range of distances and his long kicking in particular is excellent, but at times the consistency has been lacking by foot despite his good kicking action. Stewart is very clean for a tall lad below the knees and can easily pick the ball up cleanly without any difficulty. When he has ball is hand shows great poise and can easily spin out of tackles, never really looking phased when pressured. Athleticism impressive and for someone at his height and is incredibly mobile for a tall. Willing tackler and will give those 2nd and 3rd efforts. What impresses me is his ability to read the play and read the ball in the air, it’s a real feature of his game. Strong mark overhead but I don’t see him ever developing into a dominant contested marking presence which makes me favour him as a defender even with the knowledge that the Collingwood key defence group is far superior to that of the key forward group.

#63 GWS (Via Hawthorn) – Tom Langdon (VIC – Def/Mid)
Height: 189cm, Weight: 80kg, DOB:
Recruited from: Sandringham Dragons
Style:
Player comparison:
Range: 35-rookie
Profile: Landgon is a defender who can also play through the midfield. Big time accumulator and has improved strongly as the season has progressed. Skills by both hand and foot solid. Athletically not super quick but has a nice evasiveness and agility which he uses effectively. Strong mark overhead. Enjoys sneaking forward and generally a good set shot at goal. Through the midfield Langdon is a surprisingly effective clearance player and it seems to be an underrated aspect of his game which has grown late in the season. As an inside player Langdon can read the ruck taps and get the ball quickly to boot for the quick clearances. Still more of an outside player and gets much of his ball through handball receives but I’ve seen enough signs to suggest his stoppage work once he gets stronger can become very solid and that he can develop more of an inside/outside game.

#64 Sydney (Via Hawthorn Compensation Pick) - Marco Paparone (WA– KPF/Mid)
Height: 193cm, Weight: 84kg, DOB: 03/09/1994
Recruited from: East Fremantle
Style:
Player comparison: Jarrad Grant
Range: 30-70
Profile: Paparone is a tall utility who mostly plays on a wing or a leading key forward. Paparone’s numbers have been exceptional and he is a very high level endurance athlete and goes all day and has a serious work rate. Has really elevated his game from last year and has been one of the big improvers this year. Paparone won’t ever be your contested marking threat inside 50 but is a strong mark on the lead. Has some smarts for a tall. Work at ground level excellent, is clean below the knees and quick to recover. Has great agility and is very lively for a tall, quick on his feet and quick to get back up. Finishing ability around goal good but I have some concerns about his set shot goal kicking which needs work along with his field kicking which lacks consistency at this stage.

#65 Sydney- Laine Wilkins (WA – Mid/Fwd)
Height: 189cm, Weight: 78kg, DOB: 30/03/1994
Recruited from: Peel Thunder
Style:
Player comparison:
Range: 25-rookie
Profile: Outside running type player who can either play on a wing or up forward but in my view looks better up the ground. Wilkins has sensational pace and freak athleticism with a great leap on him and linebreaking pace. Would have to be in the top five for both pace and leap this year which will intrigue clubs. Ball use good but not great. When he rests forward he can often impact the scoreboard and do some damage but really lacks consistency in his play up forward relying purely on his athleticism to get by. Really exciting player and one of those players who can really turn a game with some of the things he can do but at the same time he seems to really lack substance and consistency. Needs to win more of his ball, find more of it around the ground and when playing forward with his speed needs to greatly improve his tackle numbers. Just needs to add a few more things to his play to go with his athleticism and get more ball more often to really be a consistent player, but with his standout athleticism is sure to get drafted.

#66 Hawthorn (Via GWS) – Brodie Murdoch (SA – Fwd)
Height: 187cm, Weight: 85kg, DOB: 21/01/1994
Recruited from: Glenelg
Style:
Player comparison:
Range: 30-70
Profile: Murdoch is an undersized key forward who might need to settle into more of a 3rd tall leading role which he is probably more suited to at the next level. At U18 level gets impressive mark totals, but at senior level I suspect this might dry up because with zones it is a lot harder for these leading type forwards to have a great impact. For a tall I really like Murdoch’s kicking and has a really nice left foot on him. Like his brother is also a very high level athlete and has the speed, agility and leap on him.

#67 GWS (Via Gold Coast) – Ryan Morrison (VIC – KPP/Def)
Height: 190cm, Weight: 83kg, DOB: 06/03/1994
Recruited from: Dandenong Stingrays
Style:
Player comparison:
Range: 35-rookie
Profile: Immediate key defender who has had a solid season for the Stingrays. One of the better ball users as a key defender and can find his targets down the field often setting up attacking ball movements. Morrison has also shown some ability up forward and has shown that he can provide a marking target, taking those contested grabs then hit the scoreboard.

#68 Melbourne – Matthew Haynes (VIC - Util)
Height: 189cm, Weight: 76kg, DOB: 19/03/1994
Recruited from: Northern Knights
Style:
Player comparison: Rhyce Shaw (Taller)
Range: 20-rookie
Profile: Haynes is a really versatile line breaker. Really broke onto the scene in 2011 and for someone of his height, his pace is absolutely incredible! Just bursts and goes past everyone with ease and is incredibly difficult to run down. Also would be very interested to see his meters gained statistics because if you let him he would sprint the length of the field. I think he could become a very good back flanker at the next level but he does have the versatility to play on a wing or forward. The other strength with Haynes is his marking ability which is well above average. Haynes has played much of the season down back and his shutdown game and as I understand it his running game at times has been restricted due to a hamstring injury he has at various times been struggling with. Kicking ability ok but I wouldn’t describe it as a feature of his game. I’ve been impressed on occasion with Haynes’ ability to kick at full pace and have been really surprised with his ability to hit a target when running at the speed Haynes does but also at times can choose the wrong option or slightly miss the intended target. I don’t see Haynes as a first round selection as he doesn’t quite have enough strings to his bow for my liking and doesn’t win enough of his own ball and has the feel of athlete first, footballer second but none the less is an exciting line breaker he could add something to a team.

#69 Carlton (Via Western Bulldogs) - Leigh Osborne (VIC – Def)
Height: 186cm, Weight: 84kg, DOB:
Recruited from: Frankston
Style: Matt Suckling
Player comparison:
Range: 35-rookie
Profile: Osborne is an offensive style back flanker with really impressive pace and a long left foot kick. Osborne will probably never be a shutdown defender and is best suited as a running back flanker who can generate drive from the back half for a team looking for an immediate attacking style defender.

#70 Hawthorn (Via Port Adelaide) – Will Hams (VIC – Mid/Def)
Height: 180cm, Weight: 70kg, DOB:
Recruited from: Gippsland Power
Style:
Player comparison:
Range: 50-rookie
Profile: Really impressive small who can play to a high level both through the midfield and down back. Through the midfield Hams stands out with his attack on the ball and ability to read the ruck taps. He just gets into right position every time and this allows him to be an incredibly effective clearance player. Hard runner and after he disposes of the ball is one of those guys who will keep going and keep working. Hams is also a really nice user of the footy by both hand and foot with a particularly impressive left foot. Strong overhead. One of those guys who just has a dip and you want on your team.

#73 Essendon – Tom Fields (QLD – Def)
Height: 189cm, Weight: 84kg, DOB: 19/12/1992
Recruited from: Labrador
Style:
Player comparison:
Range: 50-rookie
Profile: Potential father son selection Essendon decided not to take but look set to take late draft after training with the team. Key defender with impressive closing speed. More your shutdown defender and has mostly played as a key defender but also has really impressive footskills finding his targets out of the back half with regularity.

#74 Carlton - Jackson Ramsay (WA – Def)
Height: 181cm, Weight: 71kg, DOB: 20/11/1994
Recruited from: East Perth
Style:
Player comparison:
Range: 35-rookie
Profile: Defender who enjoys taking the game on with his pace. In the limited games he has played has accumulated some big numbers are really impressed. Footskills sound and uses it well with no decision making issues with ball in hand. Can improve defensively and is more your offensive running back flanker at this stage but plenty to work with.

#75 St Kilda – Brant Colledge (WA - KPF)
Height: 192cm, Weight: 87kg, DOB: 25/10/1994
Recruited from: Perth
Style: Chris Tarrant (leading half forward version)
Player comparison:
Range: 40-rookie
Profile: Colledge is a strong marking key forward who marks it out in front and is very dangerous on the lead and will give you multiple leading efforts until he takes the mark. Colledge has really great smarts and decision making ability for a tall forward. Has a high work rate and finds the leading targets consistently and passes it to where the player wants it which is rare in a key forward. Had an excellent patch during the middle part of the season showing just how impressive he can be at his best but later in the season was slowed by injury.

#76 North Melbourne – *Rookie upgrade

#77 Geelong – Sean Gregory (VIC – KPD)
Height: 195cm, Weight: 72kg, DOB: 20/01/1994
Recruited from: Calder Cannons
Style:
Player comparison:
Range: 40-rookie
Profile: Very quick tall defender with some really impressive closing speed. Has the ability to play on talls or smalls and shut them down to a high level. Has a very slight frame and will need to spend significant time in the gym before he is AFL ready but is an interesting project with his athleticism.

#78 Fremantle – *Rookie upgrade

#79 West Coast – *Rookie upgrade

#80 Collingwood – Andrew Boston (QLD – Mid/Fwd)
Height: 180cm, Weight: 75kg, DOB: 23/03/1994
Recruited from: Broadbeach
Style:
Player comparison:
Range: 40-rookie
Profile: Boston is one of the better Queensland talents and has really impressed with a strong u18 champs. Boston can play either through the midfield or forwardline and stood out with his ball use. Uses it well, duel sided and decision making ability good. Boston is also a big accumulator and can win his own ball.

#81 Adelaide - Matthew McDonough (SA - Fwd)
Height: 180cm, Weight: 85g, DOB: 26/01/1994
Recruited from: Woodville West Torrens
Style:
Player comparison: Jason Porplyzia
Range: 30-rookie
Profile: Forward who is physically very strongly built and ready to produce. Has already shown that he can kick big goal hauls and his production throughout his career up to this stage has been sensational. Just knows where the goals are and has a real uncanny knack of finding ways to hit the scoreboard. I really like his kicking, very duel sided, hits his targets either foot and has that great goal sense and some nice penetration. Good finisher around goal and excellent from set shot attempts. The real highlight in McDonough’s game is his marking ability, very strong contested mark, 1v1 mark and on the lead. Doesn’t get much off the ground but even in the air is strong and has good body control. Despite his primary feature being his marking game McDonough is also very good at ground level and is very capable as a crumber, getting to the right positions for the bigs to bring to ground and to his advantage. Where McDonough falls short is his lack of athleticism. Speed not great and endurance a long way off where it needs to get to but he has shown promise through the midfield this season showing himself as a capable stoppage player and clearance specialist. Stands up in tackles and has wonderful strength. As a forward also needs to work on his tackling game but with his lack of pace I doubt it will ever be a feature of his game. Might be an interesting potential late draft bargain if he slides because he certainly has the proven production to back up his case. I’d look to draft him into an inside midfielder who can rotate forward and have an influence at times. He won’t be able to monster players physically at the next level with his size advantage he has in the u18s but with his marking ability, kicking ability on both sides and his strong ability 1v1 and improving inside game I think there is plenty to work with.

#82 Port Adelaide (Via Adelaide) – Dean Kent (WA – Fwd/Mid)
Height: 180cm, Weight: 81kg, DOB: 24/02/1994
Recruited from: Perth
Style:
Player comparison: Alex Fasolo
Range: 30-rookie
Profile: Very unlucky not to make the WA state squad. Powerful inside ball and is a big time clearance player who shines at stoppages. Inside work is just so effective and can be a serious difference maker with some of his inside work. Kent is a big time accumulator and getting is better as the season goes. Kicking ability very good and has some penetration and hurt factor but is very kick happy. Seems to have some selfishness in his play but that in no way takes away from the quality of his play.

#83 GWS (Via Hawthorn) – *Rookie update

#84 Brisbane - Emmanuel Irra (SA – Mid/Util)
Height: 179cm, Weight: 80kg, DOB: 25/03/1994
Recruited from: South Adelaide
Style:
Player comparison:
Range: 35-rookie
Profile: Irra has incredible speed and evasiveness. Kicking skills excellent for someone who hasn’t played all his life – very duel sided, penetration good and can make high difficulty kicks look easy at times. Decision making very good. Still has a lot of work to do and is still a reasonably raw product, but if he continues to show improvement and increase his production I see no reason why Irra can’t get drafted. Also needs to develop some more consistency in his game – one game he can be one of the better players the next can go missing, so really needs to build his endurance and get some sort of routine together that works for him to play to a more consistently high level.

#85 Port Adelaide - *Rookie upgrade

#87 Richmond - Louis Herbert (VIC – Fwd)
Height: 186cm, Weight: 70kg, DOB:
Recruited from: North Ballarat Rebels
Style:

Range: 35-rookie
Profile: Athletic forward who at times this year has really stood out. Has very good pace and leaping ability. Strong overhead but what really stands out is his long penetrating kick. Herbert in games has gone off at times for bags of goals and when he is on fire he is one of the more damaging players you’ll see.

Recruited from: Western Jets
Style:
Player comparison:
Range: 40-rookie
Profile: Younger brother of Gold Coast’s Trent. Versatile type who can play midfield, back or forward. Good decision maker and uses the ball well by foot but is nowhere near the same explosive talent his brother is and doesn’t share that same 70m kick.

#98 Western Bulldogs - *Rookie upgrade

#99 Brisbane - *Rookie upgrade

#100 Richmond - Sam Heavyside (VIC– Mid)
Height: 177cm, Weight: 69kg, DOB: 09/07/1994
Recruited from: Bendigo
Style:
Player comparison:
Range: 35-rookie
Profile: Strong inside midfielder and big time clearance player despite size. Just goes in hard and wins his own ball. Tackling ability good and just has a dip. Unfortunately we didn’t get to see much of him during the u18 champs due to injury but when healthy has shown some serious ability through the midfield and that he can mix it with the best. Ball use not great and by foot can lack consistency but decision making ability good and with work I can see foot skills improving.

Recruited from: Woodville West Torrents
Style:
Player comparison:
Range: 35-rookie
Profile: Sumner is one of the quickest players in the draft and at his height is one of the more interesting prospects. Sumner is not a noted ball winner and doesn’t get a lot of it but when he does he can with his pace do some big damage, generally using it well but ball use can lack consistency at times. Strong overhead. Very dangerous around goal and good finisher around goal. With his pace could go from ok tackler to excellent tackler with more work. Will need to work on endurance and become a smarter runner so he can get more of it.

Jacob Ballard (VIC – Mid/Def)
Height: 186cm, Weight: 82kg, DOB:
Recruited from: Northern Knights

Profile: Ballard is a strong, hard running midfielder/defender who has had a strong year. Ballard is a really strong ball winner down back and can be injected into the midfield and impact the game when required. Uses the ball well by both hand and foot and has good 1v1 strength and ability to not only win these contests but also take the mark.

Can play back or forward and has a Leon Davis type feel to his game that makes him exciting regardless of where he plays.

Still lacking some consistency to his game and can fade in and out of games but he if he can develop consistency to his game he can go on and have a strong career.

Profile: Montgomery stood out down back with his consistency throughout the u18 championships. I really liked both the offensive and defensive sides to his game. Defensively Montgomery showed that he can shut down his man. Also really liked a lot of Montgomery’s rebounding game. Marking ability down back is good and has shown the ability to read it well down back but also take marks 1v1 and going back with the flight which has been impressive. What also stands out with Montgomery is his pace and ability to run out of defence as well as his kicking ability which mostly is very well weighted and on target. Montgomery while he played exclusively down back throughout the u18 championships also has shown the ability to play through the midfield.

Justin Hardy (SA – KPF/Ruck)
Height: 196cm, Weight: 97kg, DOB: 14/01/1988
Recruited from: Central Districts
Style:
Player comparison:
Range: late-rookie
Profile: Powerful key forward who has also in the past demonstrated the ability to play through the ruck or down back. Strong marking presence and can take a grab. Had a real breakout season and was the dominant state league key forward from this year.

Nathan Stark (SA – Mid)
Height: 177cm, Weight: 70kg, DOB: 19/07/1994
Recruited from: Glenelg
Style:
Player comparison: Mitch Banner
Range: 45-rookie
Profile: Lively inside midfielder who always seems to do something whenever he is around the ball. Not a big or strongly build midfielder but one of those genuine players who just puts his head over the footy and plays to win the ball. One thing Stark can do better than anyone is draw free kicks, he draws them better than the Selwood boys and time and time again just finds ways to do it which is something I find remarkable in Stark’s play. Athletically Stark is only average. By hand Stark is reliable but by foot at times can lack consistency and this is the area he can continue to work at.

Patrick Wilson (SA – Def/Mid)
Height: 185cm, Weight: 74kg, DOB: 11/12/1994
Recruited from: Sturt
Style: Corey Enright (without the same shutdown game)
Player comparison:
Range: 30-rookie
Profile: Wilson is a high production rebounding defender who can also push up onto a wing. Athletically above average. Excellent endurance athlete and runs all day. Wilson not only reads it well down back collecting rebounding marks but he also gets plenty of his ball on the rebound but also has the ability to win his own ball down back. Ball use good and is looked for regularly as an option out of defence. Will need to improve defensively and become stronger in the air.

Cameron Symonds (WA – Ruck)
Height: 205cm, Weight: 100kg, DOB:
Recruited from: East Fremantle
Style:
Player comparison:
Range: late-rookie
Profile: Mature ruckman those few years older who has missed out in the past but could be worth a shot this year. Real improver this year and that’s what you look for in a ruck prospect. Symonds plays with a great physicality and is a real competitor. Competes well at ground level for someone his size. Has a nice long kick on him. Plenty to work with and in a couple of years could become something.

Harrison Gill (SA – Mid)
Height: 186cm, Weight: kg, DOB:
Recruited from: Glenelg
Style:
Player comparison:
Range: 45-rookie
Profile: High level athlete who missed out last year but has with his recent testing really come onto the radar. Really demonstrated ability in the speed, agility, endurance and leap testing showing his range of athletic abilities. Uses it well by hand and foot and has some class to him. From all reports is a guy who works tirelessly on his game and could be an interesting mid-late draft option.

Alex Howson (WA – KPF/KPD)
Height: 195cm, Weight: 90kg, DOB: 25/05/1994
Recruited from: East Fremantle
Style:
Player comparison:
Range: late-rookie
Profile: Has played much of the season as a key forward in WA and performed to a high standard kicking multiple goals in most games and then came into the U18 champs and really impressed as a key defender. As a key defender Howson showed some nice shutdown ability and used the ball well coming out of defence. As a forward while a noted goalkicker the defensive side to his game is really lacking and he just doesn’t tackle or provide any pressure.

Shannon Taylor (WA –Fwd/ Mid)
Height: 177cm, Weight: 72kg, DOB: 05/02/1994
Recruited from: Claremont
Style:
Player comparison: Kirk Ugle (Taller)
Range: 45-rookie
Profile: Taylor is an absolute speedster with unbelievable pace and agility. At the 2011 draft combine managed the best times for the 10m, 20m sprints, repeat sprints and agility. Tackling game is solid but has the potential to be elite in this area of his game with his pace. Picks the ball up cleanly, has clean hands and has some hurt factor but kicking while sometimes lacking consistency is mostly good. Physically still has a long way to go and still has an incomplete game but it seems to be coming. Endurance is building and he can now play for greater periods through the midfield and have an influence. Also despite his lean build Taylor has surprising ball winning ability which is encouraging. Taylor at the next level is probably most suited to a role as a small forward but with his improved play through the midfield it looks like he could also spend some minutes on a wing and do some damage there. Probably hasn’t improved as much as expected this year but still plenty to work with.

Shane Nelson (WA – Mid/Fwd)
Height: 179cm, Weight: 73kg, DOB: 11/05/1993
Recruited from: West Perth Football Club
Style: Leigh Montagna
Player comparison:
Range: late-rookie
Profile: Big accumulator through the midfield and has only lifted his output again this year. Nelson has very good endurance but also excellent speed testing exceptionally well at last year’s draft combine. What allows him to accumulate so much of the ball is his ability to run to the right spots to find it effortlessly. He has a solid skill set and links up well finding targets by foot consistently and can use both feet well. While he has a nice skill set I’m probably not as sold on his decision making under pressure, looks rushed much of the time. Marking overhead strong for size. Dangerous around goal. Should have been drafted last year and deserves an opportunity this year with the way he has continued to improve his production.

Harley Walshe (VIC – KPD)
Height: 197cm, Weight: 83kg, DOB: 23/02/1994
Recruited from: Western Jets
Style: Nathan Brown
Player comparison:
Range: late-rookie
Profile: Tall key defender best known for his shutdown game and has had success against many of the better TAC key forwards in Daniher and Membrey demonstrating that he might have something. Nice height for a key defender and has demonstrated good closing speed and ability to play close, accountable football to a high level. Rebounding game can improve but as a shutdown player there is plenty of promise.

Nic Amato (SA – Mid)
Height: 177cm, Weight: 74kg, DOB: 15/10/1994
Recruited from: North Adelaide
Style: Leigh Montagna
Player comparison:
Range: late-rookie
Profile: Is on the short side for a midfielder but is a guy who is already producing to a high level. During the 2011 U18 champs really showed some great signs racking up big numbers while doing a great job at limiting his direct opponents. Amato is an outside midfield with excellent endurance and work rate. Has some ball winning ability and isn’t that purely outside guy. At lower levels Amato has also played to a high level getting some big disposal numbers. Obviously not tall, but he makes up for it with the substance of his play.

Anthony Bonaddio (VIC – Mid/Fwd)
Height: 174cm, Weight: 73kg, DOB: 06/01/1994
Recruited from: Northern Knights
Style:
Player comparison:
Range: late-rookie
Profile: Really like what Bonaddio can do. High production midfielder who has been good for some time. Big time ball winner through the midfield. Can win his own ball while also getting some outside ball. Has great pace and if given time and space can hurt you. Skill level exceptionally high and has big hurt factor by foot with the penetration he has on his kick. When he sneaks forward is very much a goal scoring threat.

Ben Kearns (VIC – Mid/Fwd)
Height: 183cm, Weight: 73kg, DOB: 12/11/1994
Recruited from: Gippsland Power
Style:
Player comparison: Luke Breust
Range: 45-rookie
Profile: Just seems to do some smart things. Kearns is a strong ball winner both through the midfield and can push forward and do some damage with his finishing skills and kick some goals. Strong mark up forward. Perhaps not as one touch or clean as you’d like him to be but plenty to work with. Had some disappointing finals performances which probably hurt his draft stocks and can needs to become a four quarter player – seems to mostly switch on for only a quarter here and there.

Brian Coleman-Broome (QLD – Fwd/Def)
Height: 181cm, Weight: 79kg, DOB: 9/04/1994
Recruited from: Morningside
Style:
Player comparison:
Range: 45-rookie
Profile: Coleman-Broome is one of the quickest in this draft and his combination of speed and agility is very appealing. He can play forward, back or through the midfield and while he typically doesn’t get a lot of it he generally uses it well. Lively tackler with very clean hands and has some finishing ability around goal so likely will start his career as a crumbing forward.

Jack Hannath (SA – Ruck)

Dylan Clarke (WA – Mid)
Height: 175cm, Weight: 60kg, DOB: 21/03/1994
Recruited from: Subiaco
Style: Trent McKenzie
Player comparison:
Range: late-rookie
Profile: Clarke has played some really impressive football as an outside midfield and has produced some really nice numbers. Clarke is most noted for his kicking ability and can do some big damage when he pushes forward. Clarke has a nice long kick on him and hits his targets over a range of distances with high hurt factor. There are missing aspects, Clarke is purely an outside player and seems reluctant to use the ball by hand but there are enough weapons here to suggest that there might be something. Will need to develop physically, frame is very light and will need to get stronger but there are enough weapons to suggest he could be something.

Height: 194cm, Weight: 89kg, DOB: 16/01/1994
Recruited from: Norwood
Style:
Player comparison:
Range: 45-rookie
Profile: Wallis has had a strong year this year as a key defender playing some good shutdown roles. He has strong 1v1 ability and can play on either talls or smalls. Athletically above average and has really stepped up his game this year.

Mark Seaby (WA – Ruck)
Height: 199cm, Weight: 101kg, DOB: 01/05/1984
Recruited from: Sydney
Style:
Player comparison:
Range: late-rookie
Profile: Solid, proven ruckman who has demonstrated in the past that he can play at AFL level. Recently delisted by Sydney and could serve as a potential backup or depth ruckman for a team.

Kyle Martin (VIC – Mid/Fwd)
Height: 182cm, Weight: 81kg, DOB: 17/09/1990
Recruited from: Frankston
Style:
Player comparison:
Range: 45-rookie
Profile: A guy I didn’t know much about coming into the season but I really like this guys game. VFL midfielder who has shown strong improvement and can move forward and have an impact. Martin has a strong build and knows where the goals are. I’ve been really impressed with his ball winning ability and clearance work. Tackling ability good. Can win both inside and outside ball and has some hurt factor.

Todd McKay (SA - Mid)
Height: 177cm, Weight: 74kg, DOB: 25/01/1994
Recruited from: South Adelaide
Style:
Player comparison:
Range: 45-rookie
Profile: McKay is small but strong inside ball winner. Has a very strong attack on the footy and is a serious inside ball winner. As a smaller more ready to go midfielder it will be interesting to watch where McKay goes. Has a big potential range but even though on the short side for the modern day midfielder there is a fair bit to like about his game which suggests he is a legit draft prospect. McKay has some big weapons at his disposal in his long kick and pace so there is more to him than just his inside ball winning ability which is up there with the best in this year’s crop. The thing I’d like to see McKay improve this year is his production. He has the attributes to get drafted so if he can further increase his production this year he is every chance to be drafted earlier rather than later.

Ashlin Brown (VIC – Fwd/Util)
Height: 186cm, Weight: 86kg, DOB: 23/04/1994
Recruited from: Western Jets
Style:
Player comparison: Brent Macaffer
Range: late-rookie
Profile: Brown is a versatile utility who plays where required for the Jets and have an impact. As a forward Brown stands out with his strong marking ability at his height and has the ability to finish around goal. Through the midfield Brown demonstrates strong inside ball winning ability doing all the hard stuff then in the back half can provide direction and leadership. One of the more ready to go prospects.

Jake Calvert (VIC – KPF)
Height: 192cm, Weight: 93kg, DOB: 30/05/1993
Recruited from: Dandenong Stingrays
Style:
Player comparison:
Range: late-rookie
Profile: Has had an impressive season and is one of the big improvers this year. Really announced himself against Vic Metro when he came on in the second half and while he was in a losing Country side he really did some big damage and suggested that he is a player. Athletically good and has an impressive work rate but not a freak athlete. What makes Calvert stand out is his strong contested marking ability as well as his marking ability on the lead and in the air. Reliable in front of goal from both set shot and from field kicks.

Mason Middleton (SA – KPF)
Height: 191cm, Weight: 95kg, DOB:
Recruited from:
Style:
Player comparison:
Range: late-rookie
Profile: Very strong key forward with a real presence to him. Has the ability to hit the scoreboard and take some strong grabs. More of a raw talent and probably more of a rookie selection but he has shown that he can really monster his opponents and have some big games up forward.

Myke Cook (VIC – Mid)
Height: 182cm, Weight: 80kg, DOB: 09/10/1989
Recruited from: Sandringham
Style:
Player comparison:
Range: late-rookie
Profile: Cook has had an excellent year at VFL level and has shown plenty as an outside midfielder. He has a nice combination of speed and endurance and uses it well. Has accumulated some big numbers this season and could be yet another past Crow to receive a second chance.

Aseri Raikiwasa (SA – Def/KPD)
Height: 191cm, Weight: 91kg, DOB: 18/04/1993
Recruited from: Port Adelaide Magpies
Style: Josh Gibson
Player comparison:
Range: late-rookie
Profile: Undersized key position. Very strong already and plays a little taller than his height with his long arms and nice leap so it isn’t out of the question that he plays as a key defender at the next level. Not a strong mark but a very good spoiler down back. Reasonably high level athlete and a great size already! Has a really nice leap on him. Work ethic is there and has leadership potential having been South Australia’s U18 vice captain at the champs in his draft year. This year Raikiwasa has really added to his game and backed it up with another strong year and with the way he has played deserves an opportunity.

Corey Chalmers (WA - Mid)
Height: 179cm, Weight: 80kg, DOB: 24/11/1994

Profile: Very high production midfielder. Has been good for a number of years and continues to produce great numbers. Isn’t bigger than everyone but wins his ball by working harder than the next guy. Hard trainer and plays a good team game. Endurance and work rate excellent. Skills good. Looks like a real solid pick who might go under the radar some. Leadership skills are there and leads by his actions out on the field.

Style: Steve Johnson
Player comparison:
Range: late-rookie
Profile: Really talented forward who can work his way into the midfield. Has good pace. Reads the ball well and is a really good decision maker when ball is in hand. Work rate an issue. But can have a serious impact in spurts for the time being. Needs to continue to work harder defensively and work on his endurance because he probably doesn’t do quite enough for my liking. But none the less is a quality young talent with serious x-factor. Unlucky not to get drafted last year and has put his head down this year and shown strong improvement so will have to be in the mix late.

Profile: Bower is a versatile defender and has shown the ability to play up forward or through the midfield at times. Strong mark overhead and an above average athlete. Probably hasn’t progressed as much as some thought he could but there’s still plenty to work with.

Adam Saad (VIC –Def)

Profile: Uses it well by foot and has some penetration on his kick. Strong overhead mark. Read it well down back. Very quick and tested incredibly well at the draft combine. One criticism is that he could use his pace more effectively in game and become a more aggressive line breaker but there is a fair bit to work with.

Christopher Yarran (WA – Fwd/Mid)
Height: 183cm, Weight: 80kg, DOB: 27/04/1994
Recruited from: Perth Football Club
Style:
Player comparison:
Range: late-rookie
Profile: Yarran at this stage has mostly as a forward. As a forward is a big time goal scoring threat and has produced some strong results over the past two seasons. Has great goal sense. Skill level good. Marking ability good for a player of his size and has some crumbing ability. Not super speedy but is agile. Endurance needs a lot of work if he wants to push up the ground or develop consistency to his game. Can continue to work defensively to get better but with some work this can improve. Probably hasn’t taken the step up as expected this year so it will be interesting to see where clubs rate him after being one of the more highly rated draft prospects after a strong 2011 season.

Mitchell Wooffindin (VIC – Def/Mid)
Height: 178cm, Weight: 76kg, DOB: 03/02/1993
Recruited from: Port Melbourne
Style: Robert Harvey (back flank version)
Player comparison:
Range: rookie
Profile: Woofindin has a really solid, stocky type frame. Real hard worker on the field and going off his improvement over the past two seasons clearly works hard both on and off the field. Big work rate and endurance. Attacks the ball well and can win his own footy. Enjoys tackling. Master of hitting up the short target over 15-20m and has this season started to grow more comfortable finding targets over longer distances. He’s still reasonably right kick reliant but is starting to develop a left foot. Really good reader of the play. Deceptively fast and can sometimes provide really nice dash when in space. Wooffindin missed out last year but has put together a strong season in the VFL and has shown some big improvement in decision making and ball use just looking like a much more confident player off a back flank than he once was this time last year.

Why:

Club by club rookie and preseason draft preview:

Adelaide: Will bring back Nick Joyce in the preseason draft. May look for a mature tall. Perhaps Justin Hardy could be looked at.

Brisbane: May look to add another key forward and some more midfield help. Alex Howson as a key forward may get looked at.

Carlton: Going with the high endurance theme this year. Also don’t be surprised to see a mature aged back flanker, perhaps Leigh Osborne to add some drive as one who may be looked at.

Collingwood: Likely to take Sam Dwyer with Ben Hudson a likely rookie recruit with Ben Richmond already committed to. A Matthew Haynes or a similar back flanker who can generate some drive could also be looked at as a rookie.

Essendon: Looking likely to take Tom Fields. May rookie Ariel Strinberg. Looking at Dayle Garlett as a possible.

Fremantle: In need of some key forward help and more quality inside midfielders. Jason Pongracic is a must have if available as a strong bodied inside midfielder but likely starts his career as a forward. Fremantle will also take Craig Moller as a NSW/ACT ruckman as a rookie.

Geelong: May look at a young key defender and some more midfield help. Pongracic as a midfielder would be a good fit. Sam Heavyside and Nathan Stark also worth a look. Nick Rodda as a key defender might also appeal.

Gold Coast: Looking for those big bodies Pongracic could be on the radar. Zac Williams as an inside type is another real stoppage specialist who I like as a fit for Gold Coast. Also looking at Leigh Osborne as a mature back flanker with that another area of need.

GWS: Look likely to pass on Kurt Tippett. Look for them to go minimal rookie draft involvement again and perhaps only use that first rookie selection as in previous seasons.

Hawthorn: Could do with more midfield help. Pongracic and Garlett could be looked at. Heavyside and Stark also good fits with Will Hams also of interest.

Melbourne: Have gone a mature age theme and might look for more mature agers either as defenders or midfielders. Cameron Banfield could also be worth a look.

North Melbourne: May look at Darcy Fort as a rookie ruckman. May look recycled or mature age if there is an option they like.

Port Adelaide: Like Sam Colquhoun and likely take him somewhere. Will look for more outside pace if the opportunity is there. Might also look mature age.

Richmond: Josh Toy might be looked at. May also look at other recycled options. Tim McGenniss has also been linked to Richmond as a rookie.

St Kilda: With key defence needs not filled in national draft don’t be surprised to see them look at Joel Tippett with St Kilda going mature age theme in recent times liking those more mature talls. Justin Hardy and Kyle Hartigan also could receive consideration. Marvin Warrell could also be a chance.

Sydney: Kurt Tippett looks set to join Sydney through the preseason draft with signs suggesting GWS pass. Always watch out for Alex Startling who has signed from the US with Sydney.

West Coast: May look at Dayle Garlett and if not then likely some other outside type. May also look key defence with Rodda also a chance.

Western Bulldogs: Could look mature age KPP. Justin Hardy a logical fit. Also may look at some defenders so a Banfield, Langdon or Ballard could also be worth a look. Might also look at Prismall.

Delisted players worth another chance:
1. Josh Toy (Elite kick. Too talented not to get selected)
2. Lucas Cook (Light frame and a 1st rounder two years ago who if given time might be an ok long term investment)
3. Dylan Roberton (Wants to return to Victoria. Has held his own at AFL level and worth a shot)
4. Tom Gillies (Defender who couldn’t break into that Geelong backline rotation. A club needing another key defender could do worse)
5. Sam Lonergan (Strong inside midfielder. Not an elite user of the footy but wins it and a very good stoppage player. For a team needing more midfield help there are worse options and will do all the defensive stuff you ask)
6. Jason Gram (Heaps of questions but can play and would be in the best 22 for most teams league wide)
7. Ricky Petterd (Injury history horrible but when out there can produce up forward to a very reasonable standard)
8. Paul Bower (Performed well early season. Reasonable depth option down back and very capable of stepping in when required to play a role)
9. Mark Seaby (Solid depth ruckman and can come into a team and play as required. A St Kilda or Hawthorn could do worse)
10. Steven Salopek (Injuries have always been the issue but has proven when healthy that he can perform to a high level. A North Melbourne might be a good destination as they’ve done pretty well keeping their list healthy last season)
11. Brent Prismall (Like Salopek injuries are the issue but could be worth another chance in the right situation)
12. Stephen Clifton (Haven’t heard a squeak out of GWS as to what has happened with Clifton and I haven’t followed his season but one given his past VFL performances could be worth a look for a club if they’ve done their research)

NM , you have not allowed for comp picks , is that deliberate?

Yes. Will do this before the draft but with the final draft order not nearly decided it's still about getting names out there more than matching them up with particular clubs and this is more what I'm trying to show at this early stage.

Hey Knightmare, just wondering about your thoughts on Paparone for Freos first pick and overlooking Mason Shaw? Also you have Craig Moller at 16, is that about right or is that purely on potential because on our board his output has been a bit underwhelming? Thanks inadvance and really appreciate your work

If the Suns finish last and take Whitfield thats going to give them another good mid. Imagie how good their midfield will be in coming years with Ablett Whitfield O’Meara Horsley Prestia Swallow Bennell Rischitelli playing for them. Caddy pretty sure he is leaving in trade week to good home to Victoria.

You have the Giants taking two ruckmen I don't think they will take anymore young ruckmen they have a number of young ruckmen on their team. Sheedy said GWS want and experienced ruckmen and that they will be going for an out of contract ruckmen this year.

How good to you reckon Shaw will be at AFL level do you see him being as goood as Brown and Franklin?

OK , all good.

Can you explain Mayes? P11 after 25 on power rankings.

Speculative but I see clubs liking him. Really skilled player and while he has mostly played as a forward I can see a team taking a bet on him and liking him as a midfielder.

Also the differences with my power rankings is that is where I personally rate them.

The mock draft is where I expect the player to get drafted which takes out my personal preferences for particular players.

Fremantle could look at either/or (of Shaw/ Paparone) but I'm really liking the footballing growth of Paparone this year and I think he could be a really nice fit for Fremantle at CHF long term.

I really liked what I've seen of Moller last year. Haven't seen what he has served up this year so perhaps my rating of his position on quality in this years draft is slightly off, but when I next see one of his games I'll re-evaluate him as a prospect but on what I saw of him last year anyway he showed some really encouraging signs with his athleticism, tap work and ability forward of centre. Still slight of frame so is very much a long term prospect. Will be a late/rookie selection anyway for Fremantle due to him being a NSW/ACT scholarship player, so I like the value he represents in any case.

What would you say the differences between Paparone and Shaw are? are they both contested marking forwards or lead up forwards? From what i have heard Shaw has all the attributes to be an A grade AFL forward but may lack a bit of heart and commitment

Taking Whitfield would make Gold Coast very outside midfield heavy - which isn't necessary something I would recommend, but Whitfield is the best talent in the draft and is a deserving no.1 overall selection.

I can't say I agree with you about the GWS ruck division. It's a really shallow ruck division with Giles the only AFL quality ruckman, then Phillips is a developing ruckman who is still fairly raw and Downie very much a project and still a long way away.
Teams in my view should have 4-5 rucks on their lists, and having 3 is probably a little shallow for my liking.

Grundy is on a best available basis. Having a fantastic year and looks like the second best player in the draft and is a dominant ruckman who could step straight into the team from next year. Would make for a great partner in the ruck for Giles and I expect they would make a great combo which to go with their midfield would make them a very competitive team.

McBean I have going to GWS more so on a best available basis. I agree that I don't expect GWS to take more than one ruckman through the draft, particularly if they add one through free agency or trade week (such as Trent West who has been mentioned), but with the way my draft order went I can't see GWS passing on someone with the talent of McBean, but on draft day it is likely that he will already have been selected by a St Kilda or some other club looking for a ruckman in the 1st round.

I can't see Shaw being of the same quality of a Franklin or J.Brown. They are respectively once in a generation players and not players you simply can draft every year.

I consider Shaw to be a poor man's Kurt Tippett. Similar style of game. Big presence up forward and big contested mark.

Shaw is more your strong contested marking type and with his size will be a big target up forward.

Paparone on the other hand is more in the Nick Riewoldt variety where he has elite endurance and an incredible work rate.

I tend to like Paparone more on upside. Has really shown great development this year while Shaw is much the same size and same guy as he was last year. Just tend to like the developing player more because there is likely more footballing growth to come. But this is just my preference and with allot more footy to be played things can change.

Do you think this will be one of the reasons GC bid on Viney, apart from forcing Melbourne to take him? There's been a fair bit of discussion about whether GC/GWS bid on Viney simply to force Melbourne to take him, but I really think he'd probably suit their midfield more than a Whitfield would. That being said, you do mention him being the best talent in the draft.

I'm very curious to see who Brisbane take. We have holes everywhere on our list apart from the ruck, so I could see us going best available, unless it's a ruckman. Wines seems like a pretty good fit in our midfield, considering we do need an inside midfielder (especially with Black near retirement). Only worry is that our midfield continues to be a bit one-paced, though hopefully Polec continues to develop because he really gives us that classy outside ability we lack. I'll be jumping for joy if we get Garlett with our compensation pick (which is around the pick you have him going for), absolutely seems to fit a need we have.

love your work knightmare, word from giants camp is moller out for season. played some games for them in the neafl. I thought he was very good in the ruck & forward against seaby & pike at 17 years old, got beaten but competed to the end. i see a bit of neafl & national 18s football, agree that he is somewhere from late 1st round to 2/3 round pick. he has got bigger i reckon around 85/90kilo. it will be interesting if giants make a play for him. if freo get him on rookie list, he could be a great get.
i saw jack dwyer [hawthorn scholarship ] with arm in plaster at nsw game as well. useful forward pocket midfield player.
Pity the scholarship scheme couldn't run in line with the Academys. As you know Collingwood and Adelaide have got some players out of it.

Hey KM great work again mate, what are your thoughts on MFC picking Grundy *if available* at there priority pick after Viiney? is that a need if he is so good or will we go another mid? i think we need mids but word is that Grundy is just to good to ignore?

Also you list Matt Couch who i assume is the brother of Brad as a potential mini draft selection, where would he rank in the power rankings is he may demand a mini draft selection?

That wouldn't be a bad move for Gold Coast - going for Viney. Better fit than Whitfield and while Whitfield is the slightly better talent both will have fantastic careers at AFL level and will be among the better players to come out of this years draft. Not that Viney is available to Gold Coast but he would be a big boost through the midfield and would give them another hard body and a guy who really attacks the footy. I'd certainly go after him as an inside midfielder. Don't see their inside stocks being as deep as their outside stocks so I'd look into it, but Melbourne will always match on it since they need a hard inside midfielder just as badly if not more so.

The Brisbane selection will be interesting. The most important need is through the forwardline for another high level key forward, but equally I wouldn't be shocked to see a midfielder selected on best available basis and at this stage I consider Wines just that and as you identified with Black surely nearing the end it is critical to replace him with another high level inside midfielder. There is great depth in outside options this year so I'm Garlett won't be the only option to look out for in the 2nd + 3rd round as outside help.

Shame if Moller is out for the season. Heck of a talent and I was hoping to see more of him this year. Fremantle are in for a bargain as Collingwood were last year with Witts. Moller represents great value late/rookie and if he develops into something that would be a fantastic result for Fremantle.
