Tippo was a great player and a lovely guy. Not his fault he was injured so often. He was one of those relatively rare players who had the perfect ruck-forward balance. Was in AA contention in that role at some points of his career. Never quite became the star that it seemed he could become when we recruited him.

Same. Wasn't the same after the Carlton player fell on his leg. But had some good form as a ruckman until he got injured again

He was awesome as a forward/ruck.

People forget that when he was on the field he was a force to be reckoned with, largely because he got injured and we got Franklin.

IIRC:
We recruited him very much as a KPF in 2013.
Naismith and Pyke were our rucks.
We recruited Buddy in 2014.
Our rucks were Pyke, Derickx, Naismith and Nankervis.
2015 same cattle.
Injuries galore.
2016 rucks Derickx, Naismith, Nankervis.
Was this the year Tippett started to ruck?
2017 Nankervis off to Richmond and wins a flag.
Sinkers and Cameron arrive as forward/rucks.
IIRC Tippett gets horribly banged up and retired beginning of 2018.
I welcome corrections.

You are pretty spot on with all this.

I think he started to ruck more frequently in 2015 when it became clear Pyke was on his last legs. That game against GWS late in the season was one of the best for a forward-ruck: 21d, 20ho and 5.3

In 2016, he shared the ruck load with Sinclair for the first 16-17 games and then Naismith for the remaining games.

Unpopular opinion, I liked him as a player.
I did until he smoke bombed with the medical payout for his ankle as I don't think it was a career ending injury.

However, I heard some goss from a former insider/official of the Swans last weekend stating that in his opinion the club did not manage Tippett very well over his journey at the Swans.

He likened it to the MJ treatment of Scott Burrell and Luc Longley on the Bulls, in the sense that the coaches and leadership group were overly critical of his play (compared to others) in game reviews and continually singled him out to be a 'tougher bloke' in front of others so that he would fit the mould of a blood.

I love that our club is tough and uncompromising in its culture as it's a big part of our brand and success as an organisation, but as a teacher myself, I also strongly believe in a personalised approach to motivation and engagement.

Granted, I got the impression that this bloke had a good relationship with Tippett so it's not a complete story until we hear from some other perspectives as well.

Just thought this was important to post as with a bit of context, I can now certainly understand Tippett's perspective and rationale to retire when he was given the chance.

We are all entitled to feel comfortable at the workplace, high performance or not.

In my opinion, I feel like he proved that in the 2016 QF against GWS. Fractured/cracked his jaw early on but came back out and finished the game, despite the loss.

Not many players can do that.

Would be a strange outcome if he was considering he's currently serving as a board member at the Suns.
It was said in jest, just a nod to us having to keep him on the list a year or so after he retired for reasons I don't really remember.
