How’d it go hankStanhope V Huntly Practice Match tonight at Epsom
Probably a couple of goal win to Huntly over 5 terms. Both Rennie’s dangerous up fwd, Lovison good at CHB. Pearson very good as a permanent mid. Could be a huge blow with Flynn going down with a knee in the 2nd.How’d it go hank

Here's one for the brains trust...
Has the covid job losses and financial pressures put an emphasis on most middle aged males taking every dollar they can get working there primary job, over playing country football with a rather large risk of getting hurt and not being able to earn said income?
This I think, would be the main cause of sides struggling for numbers. Thoughts?
It’s all come to a head. Too many clubs taking players out of the pot, without putting any in.Playing numbers were an issue well before COVID however it has exacerbated it.
Many people now have to work or choose to work a Saturday and others found that there is more to life than just footy and didn’t come back
COVID will be blamed but participation was declining well before it
Lots of jobs and businesses run 6+ days a week these days. Can’t blame a person for working. Here's one for the brains trust...

Over an entire season it can be a a hit to the pocket for some players if you add up all the costs. With the price of living situation increasing every dollar counts for some people.
Factor in registration, membership, fuel, entry into away games and all the other little things.
Costs at the club have gone up as well we spent over $6k on tape and other medical supplies last Season at VT. based on 43 Senior Footballers and 27 Senior Netballers each week, thats close enough to $5 per game just there per player. most clubs are charging roughly $200 per membership. so the other $100 covers, players gate entry, insurances, and anything else the club includes in their membership.Great point. The cost to play these days is so much.
I’ve said somewhere else recently that cost would be a big factor in junior participation numbers especially for families with multiple kids. Registration fees keep increasing, equipment costs, the merchandise clubs want you to have, petrol costs to and from training and games. It adds up to a lot of cash

We haven't had Juniors realistically for a while but our membership this season is $80 for the kids but includes a social membership for a family member to attend games so realistically is a free membership for all juniors. and the only reason we have a fee on it was to make it fair as Junior Netballers can't get around paying the VNA
That's right, why can't the AFL buy tape, for all clubs across Australia? Where's the media rights all go, 8 AFL executives are paid 11 million.Everything is expensive for everyone including clubs. This is an area where surely a billion dollar organisation such as the AFL should be looking to help. Subsidies and sponsorships ect to help clubs and participants with the costs otherwise eventually there will be no one left taking part
Just hope that all the paid players do their part to give back. Hard enough to keep the lights running at a club these days without trying to win games or footyGreat point. The cost to play these days is so much.

Most local paid players do to there credit, then there are others, paid good money but sight family commitments as to not giving back to the club, or if they've travelled from another town it seems to be to hard to stick around. Old fashioned mercenariesJust hope that all the paid players do their part to give back. Hard enough to keep the lights running at a club these days without trying to win games or footy
