Great get for the gum Jimmy while at Lancy was certainly one of my favourite players just hope he can stay injury free and we see him play the footy he can There is also rumours smooth that you also could be heading there where you have some fond memories šŸ˜Š
Definitely a good get for Merrigum! James when fit can seriously play.

As for me, not sure who or where you heard that swoop but nah mate thats exactly what it is a rumour?

I did make a joke on facebook between a few friends that we should pull on the boots together for our premiership reunion this year but that was tongue in cheek & never going to happen.

Unfortunately mate the club & people in charge at the time let me down all those years ago & that's where I draw the line! Great club, great community but sometimes 1 or 2 people can make those "fond memories" not so fond..... šŸ‘šŸ¾

Salary cap issues ?
Iā€™d imagine if theyā€™re leaving a reigning premier side they might be the ones wanting more money ???

Thatā€™s Normally what happens after a premiership , the mid to bottom range players become in demand elsewhere and they go to cash in

Young Liam Leahy off to Mooroopna from MT.

Back to Mooroopna, Young Scoob came out for a top age year of 3rds with Sleethy. Then impressed and got a Senior gig.

Good to see him back in the GV to challenge himself at a higher level. Heā€™d be turning 20 this year.

Everyone happy with the draw?
Another year, another easy draw for Murchison, colour me surprised! Only one double up against a finals side from last season in Shepp East, who've lost their best players, then also playing twice a depleted Stanhope, a middling at best Girgarre, and Violet Town, who are coming from a long way back whilst only having recruited some 40 year olds and GV 2s players.

Not to mention Shepp East being in a very similar boat, playing Murch, Tally, Undera and Merrigum twice.

Then compare that to a side like Girgarre, who have to play Murch, Lanky, and an improving Rushworth twice.

Was there any input for this draw besides Murchison and Shepparton people?

That's one way of looking at the fixture.

Clubs are able to put in requests and many do. I know that Girgarre and Lancaster have requested to play each other early as its such a big gate for the home club.

For Murch-Toolamba hosting clubs like Shepp East and Nagambie has proven to be great for the bank account also. The other factor in fixtures is the clubs that are able to field all grades or not, which is a major consideration. I see that Nagambie and Tally are joining the U15 football ranks this year.

Who would you have play the Hoppers twice this year Plumber?

The League told clubs that the draw aimed to ensure that clubs that had both Juniors last year played each other twice where possible which has benefited sides like Murch who have strong juniors as a few of the other clubs with both last year were down the bottom.

Why aren't Murch playing Nagambie twice then? Or tally?

I would like to see them play at least 1 more finals side. Lanky v Murch games have always drawn big crowds.

Yeah for sure. So Murch are playing gig twice, who had no junior footy last year, and Stanhope twice, who only had an 18s which was barely fielding a side each week. Makes sense.

Had a quick look at the previous fixtures. To be honest we've been more interested in which clubs we host as that makes a huge difference to the financial position across the year. It's great when clubs are up and about as crowds come to watch. Our gates are huge when we host Shepp East, Lancaster or Nagambie. We had some good ones when Merrigum were playing finals and Tat had the bye or were away.

2022 - Rushworth 13th, Stanhope 4th, Merrigum 9th
2023 - Nagambie 1st, Girgarre 13th, Dookie 5th
2024 - Nagambie 5th, Violet Town 13th, Stanhope 7th
2025 - Stanhope, Girgarre, Violet Town

Fixturing is a pain and will never make everyone happy. We presented a 'seeded fixture' a few years back that had teams playing double ups against clubs in similar ladder positions the following year, including a Grand Final replay in Round 1.

Creating draws based upon whether clubs have or havenā€™t had a grade the previous year is somewhat playing chicken or the egg.
Itā€™s just as hard for clubs , who didnā€™t have a side the previous year , to get enough players to field a side , if fixtured against sides who also didnā€™t have them the previous years , as it is for sides to maintain players if theyā€™ve been fortunate enough to have all grades .
Fixturing based on who did or didnā€™t have sides is to give a further leg up to those that have had them and a further kick in the guts to those that didnā€™t , by making it even harder for them to attract enough players and re-enter those grades .

Great to see McNamara Medallist Reilly Old try his luck in the GV at Seymour. Nagambie have quite a few of their young guns out on loan playing higher level footy at the moment. Look out for when they all return with a couple of mates each and a wealth of experience.

So of the historic three-way McNamara medal tie, just the 'old' one running around again in the KDL in 2025. ;)

Went down for a look at the Hoppers training the other day - Look to have a fair few new faces.

Foley loves making them boys run going from previous sessions I've watched.

McDonald-Tipungwuti supposedly making an appearance for them in the early new year, wonder how many if any games he will play this coming season, great bolster for league attendances if he does get on the park for them which I am told they're somehwhat confident it will happen.

How're the other teams looking numbers wise on the track this early on ?
