Charlie Cameron tonight again showing the extraordinary value of a gun small forward in the modern game where half backs are running loose up the field.

2 mid firsts or a top 10 pick for Kozi.

Small fowards are not worth that in a trade.

I don't think they used to be but with the speed the games being played at by the top sides I think they are as valuable as ever. The top small forwards are excellent at setting up play for their teammates with their speed and ball use up the ground now while still making the most of their limited opportunities in front of goal. Stengle, Pickett, Cameron, Moore, Rankine and Papley. I'd say all are worth around a top 10 pick in todays game.

Unfortunately small forwards are still cream players and require a solid system and team around them to thrive, but they are massive difference makers when teams are up and going.

I would think he is worth a pick in the 10-14 range. Similar to what the Crows got for Charlie Cameron.

He is well ahead of where Charlie Cameron was at the same age though?

He has already kicked 40 goals twice in his first 3 years for footy. Something Cameron wasn't able to do until he was 24 years old playing in Brisbane.

Prior to that he didn't manage to kick over 29

I would have thought Rankine was a much better comparison. Even he was behind Pickett, but he was playing in a poor side and was a high draft pick.

A pick around the 5 mark seems spot on for Pickett, who is already well and truly one if the best small forwards in the comp.

Charlie was playing second fiddle to Eddie.
Charlie had shown how good he would be. He kicked 5 goals in a preliminary final and also had a number of traits that were elite. Speed. Hard tacking. Could be ran off the backline and midfield, and he had a strong marking ability. To be honest I would rather CC as he is taller and faster than Picket.
CC was also still contracted so that made him a bit more valuable as well.
To me they are both in that same level of compensation.

Right now you could probably say you'd rather Cameron as we've seen what he's been able to do since his trade

At the same age if you were to compare the two I doubt you'd have many people not take Pickett. He is a genuine star of the competition at a very young age.

Pickett worth more than Charlie Cameron when he was traded. Many considered that Brisbane had payed overs at the time

Should have heard me at the time.
CC also had two or three years left on a contract, which upped his price.

Doubt Adelaide are upset about giving pick 5 for Rankine right now

I think a premium small forward is worth their weight in gold

The best yes but in general it is far far easier to find a good small forward late in the draft than it is any other player type. When you have limited r1s to trade theres only about 3 small forwards in the comp id even consider trading a top 10 pick for but thats just me. Those picks should be for trading in kpf and elite mids.

Pickett worth every bit as much as Rankine. Crows had pick 5 though. So that’s what suns got.

I'd say he is worth more than Rankine was last year. I'm stoked that we have Rankine and he and Kosi are both great players but Kosi has achieved more after the same amount of time.

Of course Kosi didn't have to go to a basket case club for three years, so maybe that evens out

I don't think every player in a premiership side is worth a top ten pick. I think Pickett out of contract would be moving for a very early second and Melbourne will be right to feel upset over it. Jordan Dawson is a higher impact player in my opinion and went for about that same price, just a touch more.
Still makes me laugh.

It's one thing finding a decent small forward in the draft and another finding one with the qualities that Pickett has

Agree clubs are more likely to spend high draft capital on KPP and midfielders, but when you are bringing in the elite of the competition you need to be prepared to pay up, no matter what position they play

Even a half back flank will fetch you will a top 10 pick if they are good enough

Pickett isn't the type of small forward that comes around regularly in the draft. He's a terrific talent and his output speaks for itself.
