This is like comparing The King to Nick Holland, one was serviceable and at his best a fairly decent player, the other a superstar.

actually come to think of it......who is cloke better than?
Last Year it was a Good Question but this year Franklin has gone way ahead
You would think that Pie supporters would concede this one.
Some things are simply not worth debating about and this is one of them.
Franklin is so far ahead it is not funny.
Buddy looks like he will continue to improve and could go down as an all time great where as Cloke will most likely never get any better then the form he showed last season.
One is just about the best player in the comp whilst the other is a handy player.
And for those who are complaining about the comparison happening now i think you need to realise this is a thread from last season.

Franklin is a few country miles ahead and by the looks of things will always be the better player. I still think that people are being too harsh on Cloke though, most clubs in the league would still take him.

Even at the inception of this topic Buddy was always the one with more scope for development....but at the time Cloke was in very good form.
Obviously Buddy is leagues ahead of anyone at the moment.
It just amazes me how cocky Hawthorn supporters are getting. Jonathon Brown who won 3 premierships at CHF in 4 years in the comp gets half this attention.
The worry is that you are building a guy up way too much. Remember, once you put a guy on a pedastal, he can only fall.
I'm not wishing that upon Buddy because I enjoy watching him play. I just wish i could view one Hawthorn supporters comment without the name "Buddy Franklin" in it.
When he is a premiership player, or has kicked 700+ goals, or is a 2+ time Coleman Medal winner, then you can talk about him in respect of the leagues best. At the moment, despite the amazing year he is having at such a young age, we are still talking about potential and prospects. He could do a knee tomorrow and go down as a could have been.
Its unfair to compare anyone to him at the moment. I am not having a go at him because when i see someone with his talent i hope they fully recognise it. I would just like Hawthorn supporters to be sensible about him. Media are heavily to blame as well.
We all watch Lance's development with interest, he is unlike anything we've seen. Im sure we all wish him the best.
But Hawthorn supporters should not be throwing it down everyone's throat until his figures compare with the all time greats or he is a premiership player. (which may well be at the end of this year).

You know you are struggling when you resort to personal insults.
I hate to busrt your bubble but it is not a given that every young AFL player of the age of 21 is going to get better.
Maybe you should have a look at how his brother Jason performed as an AFL player. I am pretty sure he peaked after a couple of seasons and didn't automatically improve after that.
Is it not possible that Cloke played at or above his potential last season?
I don't think Cloke is a great player and i can't see him playinmg any better than he did last season. He has a lot of deficiencies in his game and anyone that thinks he is auctomatically going to remedy these problems just becuase he is young is kidding themselves.
What makes you automatically assume that he will improve?
Judging by his form this season i would say that the former is the more likely outcome.
Are you trying to tell me that neutrals can not have any input into a thread that doesn't involve their players or team?
