Lachie Hunter - Alleged bloody idiot

You do realise the football club is not a court of law and he will face criminal charges in addition to any punishment the club imposes?

True. I do it I cop the police fines, lose my licence and catch an uber to work. He does it, gets exactly the same plus cops an additional fine from the club and maybe loses some match payments. Getting penalized twice is the price you pay for being a public figure .

Fair point. He's a young man, he's feeling like a dickhead and will be reminded of it for the next 4 - 5 years. The Club, commentators like Tony Jones and Kane Cornes, along with a number of contributors to this thread, have taken the opportunity to signal their virtue. Let's leave him alone now.

Part of his 'job' is to be a public figure. He broke his contractual terms (to inform the club of any incident). If I screw up at work I face the consequences irrespective of any legal ramifications.

So who replaces Hunter? I have a feeling Bev will give his position to Roarke Smith.
As Vice Captain - has to be Wallis. JJ isn't the worst option, but feel Wallis is more of a game-day leader which is what we need

In terms of position, I'd imagine it's either Roarke Smith, or we debut Vandermeer (if he's ready). I like Vandermeer long term, but Smith might be the option in the short term

Should have been stripped naked and placed in the stocks in Fed Square. Get a grip.

Should have, not should of

I think should've has a lot to answer for in causing this confusion ;)

The first time I saw Mitch Wallis at training after he was drafted I thought he had leader and future captain written all over him. Captain is very unlikely now, but he has the right qualities to support The Bont and rebuild trust in the leadership role.

I still really like Bailey Smith as an outside mid. He and Richards, Lipinski, or Vandermeer would be good.
I wish we could combine Lipinski and Richards, it would create the ultimate footballer. Both are fantastics kicks, with Richards having the pace we need while Lipinski brings the class and ability to accumulate.

If Richards can find some consistency and composure, he'd be a great wing option. Lipinski's ball usage is probably needed in the middle considering Macrae is inconsistent and Dunkley is poor

Dunkley for Vice Captain.

Anyone else wonder why Hunter just happened to be in the street the Bailey Smith was staying? Coincidence...hmmm...not sure on that one...18 clubs in the AFL yet by luck happened to be another bulldog player. ha ha you have to laugh at this stuff....More than likely he was picking up smith or getting smith to drive him to Gowers place. Yet they seemed to have got off on that one.

This means that Smiths GF and her family have lied to the club and authorities for Hunters sake. Does that seem more believable than Hunters version of events?
Keep in mind, Smiths GF and Hunter live in the same suburb.

Especially if your employer faces potential loss of future sponsorship if their reaction to the act is deemed insufficient by the sponsors that it would reflect on their own brand to be associated with the employer.

AFL players like to group together in little pods in the affluent inner suburbs of Melbourne.

The chances were that Lachie was going was gonna hit someone notable's car - it was just his bad luck it was someone connected to his own playing list.

Also worth noting that Bailey Smith is a pretty devout (like approaching Gary Ablett Jr. levels) Christian and teetotaller - like seriously if there is one player on the list that is least likely to be involved in a drink driving incident through his own making it would be Smith.

Obviously take with a grain of salt but I've heard that pretty early into his first preseason Bailey changed his attitude towards drinking.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he’d loosened up a bit, but I do think he wouldn’t do anything to mess up his AFL career.

Be that as it may - I don't think the evidence or likelihood is there in this case to say that Bailey saw the mangled wreck that his girlfriend and her family's cars were in, saw Lachie on the source and think I want a piece of this action. That would be a very interesting choice indeed.

And given that this has happened and already out there in the media - the club have zero incentive to cover up for Smith in this instance.

I'd bet my life on Barrett, Tom Browne or some other ruck maker finding something if it was there to find (this is the only non-Covid story happening in football) so it would be pointless to cover up for him.

I don't believe Smith or the family lied to the club, yet I think Hunter was going there for a reason....when people are drunk they do stupid things..Ah Smithy is just down the road he can drive me to Gowers type of thing. Coincidence...I don't think so, yet Smith and family were likely none the wiser.

What would the lie be?

The authorities and possibly the club have spoken to all involved. They would’ve spoken to Baileys Mrs family no doubt, so they’ve obviously told the same story as Hunter. If he’s lying about what’s happened, so have the others.

As for driving to Baileys Girlfriends house so Bailey can drive him to Gowers?
Why would he drive there? And why would he just rock up without Bailey or the others knowing he was doing so? Wouldn’t you just ask Bailey to pick you up? Or just drive to Gowers on your own? Seems strange.
But if this is how it actually played out, why did Hunter lie about it?

That alternate storyline is quiet bizarre when you think about it. Not as many coincidences but bizarre to say the least.

Argues with the Mrs, storms out of the house, decides to drive to Smiths girlfriends house (this is bizarre bit, he’s the 19year old rookie, why would you drive to his GF’s families house?) so Bailey can drive him to Gowers house. He crashes his car on arrival, exchanges details with some of the car owners and then gets a lift to Gowers. He then makes up another similar story to tell police which results in probably the same punishment.

Sorry I don't understand what he would have lied about and what they would be corroborating????
Did he say he wasn't going to Bailey's GF's place?

From what I gather from all media outlets and the club statement is that he was on his way to Gowers? He crashed in to the cars on the way to Gowers place. Not on his way to Baileys GF’s house.
Unless I’m wrong about that.
