...That weren't Hawthorn. Despite the insistence that they would be, due to 'insider information.'
There was no insistence that Lynch was headed to Hawthorn from insiders at all.

So far that hasn't worked on anyone.

Meaning what exactly? Going to the moon didn't work at anytime until Apollo 11 landed....... With Whitfield, when u r 26, flag not a clear possibily, job security with big pay is a very enticing thing.

Using an analogy, it would be like a vegan getting paid big to work at an abattoir... ain’t going to happen mate.

Most these guys have gone through a build.

Why would they want to go through another rebuild with a club just for a few extra dollars?

Not saying he won't go but if you think splashing cash will do it you guys really haven't learnt.

Dude your club is like a few losses from coming apart at the seams. Only reason players stay is a possibility of flag this and next yr before a decline. Go look at our game against Richmond and wobblers, a team in rebuild don’t think so. If your team don’t win it this yr, then thats it fOr a while.

Same can be said of man in space but then again the question now needs to be asked, do we need them?

Yeah that's been said the last few years of us. Haven't dropped yet and guys like Kelly sign for unders.

Yes, 2 years, precisely long enough to get to rfa and precisely the time your wheels will fall off. 1.5 x 5 when Kelly is 26 is significantly different prospect when he’s only 22. Also u don’t have the dish to match where we do with plenty to spare. One of Whitfield and Kelly will be ours, either ways u lose one, keep both u will lose far more....

Funny. You North boys have said that every time he has re-signed. "He is coming next time" and then he doesn't.

As for your losing players comment. Yep I do think we will lose some. There's a ton of talent still at the club and as they all develop 1 or 2 will slip through.
I just don't think they will go to North. Evidence backs me up on it.

With it looking likely that Coniglio will re-sign with GWS, attention will turn to Whitfield who will be a free agent next year.

More unlikely than likely by the week.

Which - by extension - doesn't necessarily rule Whitfield out from going either.

The tons of talent u refer to are the ones u got at the founding of the club and first 3 years. The thing is your current players are mentally scarred in that you still haven’t made it to the gf, history says u won’t make it. U only have a window of a few years regardless of talent. It’s not the level of talent that matters but the mentality of the group. Even With your current highly talented group, gf proved to be elusive and it will continue to be.

In terms of players, u don’t have the cap to keep all top ones. As. Said before, when the players are <25, not rfa, also team in premiership mode, the big money isn’t going to move them. But by the end of 2020, these players are rfa, getting closer to 30 hence needing a final big deal and gws still failed to get to a gf then it’s bye bye. As to whether or not they would come to us. We got the cap that the likes of hawthorn Richmond doesn’t. You won’t be able to match our offer or near that. Players like Kelly is coming to north is a certainty if u read between the lines. Evidence is that your team is paying him a fairly big deal but he has chosen to do 2 year deal and his most recent one will take him to rfa eligibility. This time in 2020, the 1.5 x 5 will be almost impossible to resist, your team will prob miss out on a gf, general team’s mental scar would have grown further, we might be back the finals and Kelly would be closer to 30 and needing one massive deal for job security and plus family link are all signs him coming over is a foregone conclusion. Whitfield is in similar shoe.

Can Hawks do that?

They can trade this year's right? But then would need to use next year's?

Last first rounder would have been Burton in 2015?
I have no idea what the rules around the "must have two first rounders in the next four years" actually means. There's been a lot of clubs who have managed to circumvent the rules.

In any case I think the Whitfield rumours smell of BS as things stand.

Chaisa is right, the rules seem to only be enforced partially, so it’s hard to know.

Hawthorn could trade next year’s first if they match a big for Maginness in this year’s first round, as that would technically count as a first round pick.

We used 2 1st rounders in 2015, one on Burton, one on Lovell.

On iPhone using BigFooty.com mobile app

Yep which means you are okay for this year (2019) but need to use one next year right?

To trade two first rounders you should need to acquire one first.

Or hope somebody bids on your f/s pick in the first round like ABASI said above maybe.

The context of the rumour regarding Whitfield is that they think he's a flight risk in 2020 when he becomes a RFA, so they might aim to get trade value for him this year, and that would then mean that they can use the cap space to really put a dampener on the Cat's attempts to land Jeremy Cameron.

You don’t seriously for one second think that Whitters wants to play in Melbourne after the way the media hounded the shit out of him for missing a drug test?
