Lack of News Coverage!

Honestly, for a club thats 5-0, and has a coach who has really been on the front foot with the media is recent months, (letting Ch 9 into the rooms) and coaches box in the Wizard Cup... Absolutely BUGGER All news!

There a 3 free to air new channels... Ch 7, Ch 9, Ch 10... not one had anything about us.

There was a competition (for Radio station Nova) held at Optus Oval this morning and Brent Harvey was there, yes they interviewd Fevola about his case, fair enough, but it would be nice to have a chat with Boomer, or someone at North.

The Club is always adamant that it likes to keep a low profile, and several stars, Grant, Archer and Rocca like it, but why not get out there and demand attention like a Brodie Holland or a James Hird does??

Why doesnt the media cover training EVERY night at Arden St, like it does at Windy Hill or at the Lexus Centre? Every time Malthouse or Sheedy open their mouths, and speak utter drivel, the media flock to them.. Why???

Not one mention about us in the paper today either :(
Just all crap about Collingwood.

Why not Build up our big clash with the Crows?? Why not follow us to the Airport with a newscrew or cameras and stuff??
Build up the Big double header, as its a massive opportunity for our club to showcase our talents.

I think with a North alliance at the Herald Sun (Archer, Schwass, Demetrio and Marmalade) Why doesn't Mark Robinson, or Damian Barrat or even the greatest Journo ever, John Ralph do an interview or a column about North Melbourne??
Absolute Crap!!!
I buy the paper every day in anticipation hoping there is a North story on the back page somewhere, or atleast some thing about our great club, or administration.

There are two men, who i wish to personally thank on behalf of this footy club in terms of promoting our great club, and they are James Brayshaw (Great Man) and Sam Kekovich, who both like to rant and rave about North every so often.

Rex does his bit for our club in his weekly wrap on Friday's main game section, but i just wish some of our star players could have a big interview with one of Footy's most respected journos.

Just had to get that off my chest.

I couldn't agree with you more Northboi96!!! Great Post....

We win 5 straight and The F**kin Storm get more press than us

I can just see the Headlines when we win our next flag..."Pies enjoy there day at the beach as Melbourne records Hottest September day on Record".......

Try living in Sydney !! Hell, we don't even get news on the Eddies.

I do think having Carey in his position now will be the biggest boost to comments about our boys in recent times.

No point getting ahead of ourselves. We start beating the top teams and the media will be bashing down our doors. But until then lets just keep on enjoying the wins. After all thats what counts most. Who wants to be all over the papers like collingwood only to have a massive let down every year because the supporters and media have over hyped them once again? Not me , lets sneak up on the bastards. Let them under estimate us at their own peril...... :D

Get over it! If you are good enough, there will be coverage. its when you are not good enough, you need to tell everyone how good you are. I am a kangaroos fan, and I am sure we will get plenty of coverage if we can win more than we lose in the coming weeks. Its true that kangaroos only beat non-finals teams and a depleted st. kilda side, if we are really a flag chance, we will have more coverage.

If we were 0-5 they would be talking about us. ;)

Not necessarily. I don't think the media are interested in us full stop. Until someone does something with a mate's wife that is...

Don't forget that most media stories you see and hear are generated by the clubs media and PR folk.
The Kangas are not leaders in that area - Collingwood, Essendon and Carlton are considered the best self promoters and get the coverage they deserve, chasing media placement every day.
The media tend to react and we have to look at what reaction we provoke?
The Kangas seem to like a low profile and if that is what the club wants then so be it!
It just doesn't help in two main areas - sponsorship where the sponsor's value media placement, and membership. High profile exposure assists both.
I am sure the club must be happy with what they get or they would something about it.
from a supporters point of view I think we do OK. At the moment we seem to be getting more publicity around not being rated. So far we have beaten sides that, bar St Kilda, will probably finish below us. Win 3 of the next six and watch the pundits views change.

It all comes down to money.

Newspapers report on what will sell their papers. TV stations report on stories that appeal to a wider audience to appease their advertisers.

We don't have the supporter base of the Collingwood's, Essendon's and Richmond's so the media possibly dosen't feel its worth their while (financially) to give us any airtime.

The AFL is a business - that's why we don't get many Friday night games, that's why 'Blockbusters' are determined by crowd draw not team form, that's why we don't get anywhere near the media coverage we deserve.

Would it hurt for us to get excited about what has happened so far. Simmo says that the media are not showing us the respect so far, when I talk to North fans they too are not showing any belief or respect either. We have to be one of the most complacent lot of supporters in the AFL . I certainly dont feel any excitement on here (except for a few) when I have a look at what you are all saying. It would be great if everyone had as much excitement as the guys at the back of M2 at the G the last couple of weeks they really have the spirit of the Kangaroos going on there and it is great to be amongst it. We are certainly getting a lot more from our players than a lot of the clubs this year and unless we go with them, instead of sitting and waiting for something to happen, then I am sure that eventually they will get the message that not only are the media not with them but half their supporters are not great believers as well. Just for the record I think that we have more chance of being there in September than at least nine or ten other clubs. And then it all rest on the luck of the finals. :D

I like the fact that the Roos don't necessarily feel the need to fill the papers with inane drivel every day. The weekly team, the game wrapup & one or two club stories a week is plenty. If we win a couple more over the next few weeks the media will start paying attention for all the right reasons.

Brodie Holland is an odd example of self-promotion, NorthBoi96! I'd rather our players were out of the paper than becoming 'famous' for being a dopey also-ran who'd rather be a model than a footballer. Won't even mention the other matter than got young Brodie in the news.

We've had a pretty good run in the past couple of weeks - the Melbourne papers will always run Collingwood/Essendon stories for the followers who'll buy them, and the rest of the space is divided up amongst the rest of the clubs. We've had a reasonable amount of coverage and, what's more, it's all been positive.

The media is waiting for us to lose and watch the amount of coverage we get then. There will be all sorts of bull******** about how we aren't that good and they aren't top four material. Anyway who cares as long as we keep winning and we make the finals im happy and im sure all roos fans will be too.

What a load of crap!
So your telling me that if someone saw a picture of Shannon Grant etc... on the back of the paper, they would say, oh no, i wont buy the paper today.

The Herald Sun had over 1.5 Million readers each day in Melbourne, and most of them are just normal people, like you and me....
It doesnt matter who is on the paper, the HS still has massive readership, no matter what stories are in there.

I just think that generally the media caters for the majority. Otherwise why doesn't Rugby or Soccer fill the back page?

Not crap - just an opinion.
