Yeah, it's a long shot, no one notices full backs (or anything that isn't a midfielder for that matter), but he makes plays, kicks the occasional goal here and there and nullifies awesome forwards of all sizes.

Is he any hope whatsoever?

PUtting aside the fact that we're both incredibly biased, but I am wondering whether I have ever seen a full back dominate games and rack up possessions as much as he does.

Scarlett's been pretty good the past six years or so, Lakes marking ability, along with offering options out of defence and setting play up has taken it to a new level.

We have to be perfectly honest here, he is prone to the odd clanger, but who wouldn't be getting so much of the ball.

lakes still a fair way off scarlett in his prime, sorrry

come back when he is dominating players like lloyd and tredrea and still racking up the touches

IN case you didn't notice, I gave Scarlett the thumbs up - but did Scarlett ever take the number of contested marks that Lake takes week in week out?

Scarlett had a bit more dash about him in his prime, and better disposal with long kicks.

Nice touch re Lloyd and Tredrea though. :)

averaged about 1.5-2 contested marks a game in hs prime (03-05)

defenders dont win brownlow medals - its a bullshi* midfielders award, so Hodge will win it. Umpires have NO idea

So Hodge wouldn't be a worthy winner? If you look back over the past winners, you'll see that the umpires usually get it right.

Lake has zero chance, very good player, but won't win it.

Despite the CDPR being the best all-round statistical measurement of a player's impact on the game (due to all the factors that go into it), obviously statistics aren't everything, so make of that what you will.

So Hodge wouldn't be a worthy winner? If you look back over the past winners, you'll see that the umpires usually get it right.

Haha, 'worthy winner' i like that one. Hodge has been great, but how can you overlook guys like Carey, Ablett, G.Jakovich, Scarlett, Fletcher, Pavlich, Dunstall or Franklin in 08? I mean come on mate, how important are these guys? have a serious think - hypothetical: Ess Vs Geel - Scarlett holds Lloyd (in career best form) to 1 goal and gets 20 touches, 3-4 contested marks and 15 effective kicks. cats win by 7 points. By comparison, Hird gets 36 touches - plays a brilliant game but cant win it for the team. Scarlett is by far the more influential imo. Is that fair?

oohh Geelong supporters getting precious now

Franklins a better player then both and Lake dominates his a$$ :thumbsu:

Lake can beat opponents one on one, Scarlett has been a champ but people have always questioned his ability one on one.

08 qf - franklin 8 goals

lloyd never questioned scarlett's 1 on 1 abilities, in fact he said they were tthe best of anybody he played on (remember he also played on silvagni, hudghton and michael, all better 1 on 1 players than lake)

don't make me laugh

Lake has overtaken Scarlett now & the precious reaction of cats supporters says as much!

yeah we'll be a little insulted when someone talks sit about one of our players

also hudghton sits just behind scarlett as the best fb of the last decade and was a damn sight better than lake at shutting down a forward

don't take my word for it though, just ask matthew lloyd

Im pretty sure morris started on him and it was lake that went on him later on in the game to slow him down. The way franklin started that game he should have kicked 20 lol.

Buddy only kicked two goals on Lake that night and six on Morris. Since that game Lake has dominated him.
