Re: Raiders vs The World (#1 feud of all-time)

Good comeback. Anyway, beware the Raiders in 08.

Heck, I was awaiting good things in 07 but your mob bombed. (again!!)

Chargers seem to have rediscovered their mojo last season so getting 4 wins in the division would be a start... not that Bronco fans will agree but, heck, the Raiders are getting closer & closer. Still a 8-8 campaign wouldn't surprise if those close games materialised for the better.

Re: Darren McFadden's Blog

Nice read. Would be a great get, but do we take BPA or need? gg, you would have read the interview with Bush, how the rumours of us taking DMac pretty much tell him he is not wanted, what with Fargas/Rhodes and Jordan still on the roster. I reckon that would be a pity, I would really like to see what he could bring. Tough one. Would like to see both of them in tandem which would probably mean cutting LJ (probable anyway I would have thought), and Rhodes (due to Fargas getting a new deal).
Having said that, need dictates D-Line (hello Mr Dorsey).

I want us to take either McFadden, C.Long, Dorsey, Ellis. Whoevers available I'm cool with. But I think there's gonna be some trades going on because the Raiders will be looking to get Chris Johnson (no Dmac) and/or Manningham/Thomas/Chad-J

Modern Day Players

I quote this from a Raiders forum where there's a great thread discussing the troubles of today's Raiders, and how all these ex-players are bad-mouthing the organization as they leave, and the whole thread is worthy of reading because it looks at both povs very evenly.

The thread is here....

http://www.raiderfans.net/forum/oak...ssage-board/133672-smoke-fire-my-friends.html

And I think this quote is great, and as you will see after, there are many examples in the modern era where players bad mouth good teams/orgs when they leave.

SPIRITUAL POINT OF VIEW

There was a time -- call it the end of the Picean Age -- when ego consciousness could be satisfied with the glory of the "victory." Early in Al Davis's career, before tv money took over the sport, his methods led the way. You really could only be in it for the game and the mythology of glory and winning. Players were a means to it.

Now, players have more "power." A completely different consciousness has evolved. They are wealthy atheletes but have a "soft" mental stamina. Cry babies, whiners, a "where's mine?" attitude. IT'S ALL ABOUT MONEY NOW. So before, when you were just "fortunate" to play professional football -- now you are entitled. That means more complainers and more diaper changing.

So, when someone builds a "team" now -- we give them a lot of credit because that's how they "manage" all that energy into cohesion. Al Davis never cared about team chemistry because he feels it is your responsibility as a professional to "bring it." He shouldn't have to hire babysitters and motivational teachers to make that happen. BUT nowadays you do. A good coach is able to deal with this energy and find a way to motivate players. I see Al Davis' point of view and I even agree with it, but, unfortunately, it doesn't mesh with our current reality -- because today's "player" isn't it just to win.

Discuss....

Re: Modern Day Players

lol don't need to remind me gg... We had Barber starting when he was still playing for the team...

But it isn't ALL about the money... The top players think they are entitled and believe their opinions are more important than others of course.

Re: Javon Walker---Police Report

What's worse is that he skipped a memorial or whatever for Darent Williams to hit Vegas that night. Karma's a bitch.

But a broken jaw....hmm, sounds like he's gonna be behind the eight-ball now this season. Once again, letting a team down. Raiders will now probably end up relying on the likes of Drew Carter, and a very rookie-like WR corp.

Javon, you idiot.

Re: Javon Walker---Police Report

Sigh......

Silly, silly boy. Has got some serious psychological issues stemming from the Williams shooting that he has not fully dealt with.

This is looking more and more like another in a long recent list of Raider blunders......

I hope i am proven wrong.

Got this AMAZING sporting bar at the HRC with seating booths that have these small monitors which allow you to bet on the next play.. mind boggling stuff.
I envisaged myself being in my element. Highly recommended place to visit.
No wonder Javon Walker is addicted..

but the waitressing is quite ordinary in places in Vegas... took an eternity to get served. We (4 of us) left a whole lot of loose change as tip money (about $3 worth) and the filthy/ scornful look we got from the b____ waitress (unattractive as well) was PRICELESS as we walked out of another cafe in the area. Food may be cheap but the flavour is nothing to write home to mama about. :p Maybe Javon should of called his mama to check if he preferred some 'homecookin'

Re: Javon Walker---Police Report

I find it hard to believe Javon Walker is still in any football mindset after the death of Darrent Williams and this new attack. He's obviously suffering psychologically still, and imo it would take a miracle to see him knuckle down and be any sort of #1 receiver for the Raiders.

Re: Oakland Raiders

"Except for a brief blip during 2000-02 when Rich Gannon quarterbacked the Raiders to three AFC West titles and a fifth Super Bowl appearance, the club has deteriorated from one of the most dominant franchises in pro sports history to one of the most ridiculed."

It is so disappointing to see how we have fallen since those days. I remember watching the game Gannon got injured in and realised we would be in even more trouble than we had already been in that season. Then the neck injury in 2004 ended it all. I've always hated Derrick Brooks since then, even though it wasn't really a dirty tackle at all.

Yeah, that Raiders vs Tampa Bay superbowl season was the first time I really got into American Football (when I got foxtel). The Raiders were great to watch for those who like passing offense.

How the mighty have fallen... never really got over the loss of Gannon which I guess is understandable when you build an offense around him.

Dont think this is the season for the Raiders although a few are predicting them to be a dark horse. They'll finish in front of the Chiefs but probably end up a few games below the Broncos around .500.

The opening game of the season is huge, will go a long way to deciding who gets second place in the ACF West (although I have a funny feeling the Chargers may have a disappointing season - big call though)
