I saw Zodic too for the first time last week! I will give my own special peice of advice: if you are going to watch this movie, dont watch it when you're home alone at your beach house. (I didnt get much sleep last Monday night, when I watched it )

Anyway, I loved it. It's amazing to think he never got caught and seemed to just go about his "business" and do what ever the **** he liked, killing and writing letter to the press. The cops pinned 7 murders on him, but he probably did alot more. And what about the notes at the end.... the DNA evidence in 2002, cleared the (now dead) prime suspect?? Surely he did it.

Anyway, really enjoyed this film. :thumbsu:
If you liked that about Zodiac...see if you can track down Memories of Murder on DVD. It's Korean and only in subtitles, but it is ****ing awesome, quite possibly the best film I've ever seen - right up there with Full Metal Jacket, for me.

As I said, I found Zodiac kind of dull, especially because (as I read on wiki) for all the circumstantial evidence virtually none of the physical evidence matched him.

Has anyone seen American Gangster on the big screen? I saw it last night. An excellent film based on a true story. There are some fantastic action and cinematography, especially the police raid near the end. Crowe and Washington are great. Definitely recommended. :thumbsu:

Cool. I'll keep that in mind, next time I go to the Video Library. :thumbsu:

Yeah, I know it was like alot of "talking", but the director said in the making of the movie, he didnt want to glorify what the killer did. To focus more on the investigation and effects it had on the people who tried to catch this guy. I thought it was pretty interesting all up. But this movie isnt something I'd wanna watch again, you know what I mean? Like, its one of those "only watch once films", lol.

Watch Nanking. I'm not sure if it will be released here, because I saw it in Singapore... Definitely not for the faint-hearted.

Edit: Won't be released in Australia, but I think it's something everyone has to watch at some point of their lives.

Just watched Scream 3, It was on fox as if i would rent that shit, anyway it was stupid,But i am left thinking what sort of Nasty shit sidneys mom got up to in that hidden room, When the Son said "they ****ed her seven ways from sunday" I was left thinking......... If anybody knows Please fill me in :)

Saw Juno last night, it okay, though not as good as some have made it out to be. Jennifer Garner raised her tally of decent acting performances from 0 to 1, while Jason Bateman and Michael Cera, the two Arrested Development alumni, were pretty solid. The lead, whose name I can't remember, I actually found kinda annoying, although that was as much to do with the script as any of her acting. Reasonable, not great.

7.5/10

I found it pretty boring. I know it was supposed to represent society and the problems teenagers face, I still found it mind numbing.

Yeah, I agree. Plus the much-hyped humour was virtually non-existent. Biggest laugh, just about, was garnered by a character who was a clear imitation/rip-off of Napoleon Dynamite (another vastly over-rated film). Dialogue was pretty crap, too.

I agree to some extent. (I saw it today). Definitely not worth the 4 and 5 stars it got in the Herald Sun!! Far out I wonder about these reviewers sometimes. I'd give it about 3 stars. At the most.

The movies I saw before this were on DVD which were: Fast Food Nation (thumbs up), The Crying Game (yeah ok), Eulogy (fantastic, very funny movie), Secretary (not bad.. kinda weird but ok) and 100 Girls (not a bad comedy).

Just knocked off three movies in the past couple of weeks.

American Gangster: Brilliant. Really got you into it and Denzel and Russell were bloody great.

Dewey Cox: A bit short in laughs at times but the soundtrack is brilliant. Would have been a very average movie without such good music.

Sweeney Todd: (Just wrote this for the paper): Based on the hit
broadway musical, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, portrays the dark and sinister world of a vengeful hairdresser, out to rid London of its evil aristocracy.

Taking up residency above Mrs Lovett's Pie Shop, Todd seeks revenge against the powerful and sadistic Judge Turpin, who years before exiled
the barber, then known as Benjamin Barker, in order to court his young wife
and steal his daughter.

After an altercation with a fellow barber, Todd develops a taste for killing that results in a body count that can only be solved by mixing Lovett's flagging pie business with Todd's penchant for murdering his customers.

A gloomy, but occasionally humorous story ensues, as Todd comes closer to dispatching Turpin and rescuing his long lost daughter from the judges' malicious grasp.

Johnny Depp is at his sombre best, blending his performances as Jack Sparrow and Edward Scissorhands together to create a depressing but likeable villain, that has you feeling sorry for his past grief, while making you despise him for his crude killing methods.

Littered with some catchy songs and scenes that will have you laughing and reeling in disgust at the same time, Sweeney Todd is a breath of fresh air for those who are tired of mindless action films and thrillers that fail to thrill
4 stars.

I rewatched Austin Powers II last night for the first time in ages...such a brilliant, brilliant pisstake. Pity Goldmember was so crap.

And you know how you get cravings for films? I've got a real craving for some gritty Michael Caine noir, Get Carter would be good but one of the Deighton movies would also suffice.

Am just about to go watch Get Carter, actually. I watched Papillon last night, thought it was quite good. Also saw Stalag 17 recently, which I really liked, though a couple of the casting choices didn't really work IMO. William Holden was ace, however.

Haven't seen Papillon for ages. The book's really good too. What's on at the moment that's half decent (movies I mean, not TV)?

Wasnt half bad.... :thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

No Country for Old Men - great movie. Javier Bardem is a shoo-in for the supporting actor oscar I reckon.

Been looking forward to seeing this. That's a shame it's not coming here.

Have read a far bit about what happened in Nanking and have the "Black Sun: The Nanking Massacre" movie on dvd. Can understand why you said it's not for the faint-hearted. The movie I saw definitely isn't either - by the director of Men Behind the Sun which is often said to be one of the most disturbing movies ever made, and Black Sun isn't much different (very extreme gore). Not the greatest movie, and questionable historical accuracy, so hoping the doco is much better. What's with the actors in it - does it have re-enactments?

The subject of Men Behind The Sun (Unit 731) is pretty interesting, though very disturbing, too.

Basically, the actors sit around in a circle and read excerpts from letters and diaries written by the expats living there at the time. You can read more about it on the film's wikipedia page. It's a pretty good documentary, and I didn't think it was very biased against the Japanese.

Ughh, I just looked up Unit 731 and Men Behind The Sun on Wikipedia. Sounds gory.

But history like that interests me, which creeps me out a bit!

"Jumper"

Absolute shithouse. Terrible development of the characters, shit plot and crap acting.

Can I just ask something?? Who drops everything, their job, mates, etc etc.. to go to Rome with hardly a close mate from their childhood, who btw thought they were DEAD.

PS. Rachel Bilson sucks the big one in this. I dunno why but she really annoyed me. And everytime Samuel L Jackson was on screen i just wanted to crack up laughing. (Which I dont think that was the effect the director or casting person wanted).
